My Daddy fought in WWII & my Father-in-law fought WWII, Korean & Vietnam War. I was seven years old when my Daddy went to heaven. My Father-in-law died in 1990 he was hailed a war hero & is buried in Arlington National Cementary. Both my Daddy & Father-in-law fought with Valor for America. They gave nothing less than blood, sweat & tears for this once great country. True American Heroes!!

My dad enlisted in the navy immediately after Pearl Harbor. Three of his brother enlisted the same day, for the army. Dad served throughout the war in the pacific, saw some horrible things, lived through hell, most of which he never talked about. When he was dying, he’d say “soon I’ll see the boys again,” and we realized he was referring to his fallen comrades, whom he kept in his heart. I think about him always and try to live the way he taught me, by word and deed, but there are more and more times these days when I’m almost glad he’s not here on earth to see the moral, ethical and civic desolation that are depicted by the media and school systems as normal. Thank you, John Rich, for this beautiful tribute.

You betcha John. Thank you so much for this song. My Dad fought in the Pacific in WWII, along with my 4 uncles and 1 step Uncle. 1 Uncle was in the Pacific and the other 4 were in Europe. Most people just don’t understand, losing WWII OR even WWI, would have meant death to the USA. The Greatest generation are so wonderful, and if you’re lucky enough to still have someone from that generation around, get out your video cameras, start talking to them, record their memories. I have some from my Dad, but very few. Because I always thought there would be time. Guess what, There wasn’t! I cried through this whole song. A great tribute to our WWII Heroes!

Love this song; I aplaude the greatest generation of soldiers that fought in ww2. But not only for American’s, also for the Germans, the British, the French. Yes people I wrote Germans. I know how American’s feel about them. But they were human 2. I mean the soldier’s not their leaders. They were forced to fight were brainwashed, but you can say that about any soldier that has ever fought in a war. I know WWII was a great victory for the USA, but it also was a victory for the Soviet’s specially Stalin. I do understand that a world without war is just a dream. But I hope in the name of God, that humans stop viewing other human’s as enemies. And acknowledge at the end we are All brainwashed in to some kind of way of thinking, truly believing it’s the right one or the will of God.

I am 52 years old and I have worked for Thacker Memorial Monument Company for 30 years and about a month ago me , my son who has been working by my side for 11 years " yes I am very blessed because working with my son every day is absolutely a blessing" we processed and installed a unique pair of stones for an elderly gentleman who was a I think late 70s or early 80s VETERAN and when we finished the job I reached out my hand to shake his and told him how much I appreciated and respected him for his service and sacrifice and what he said brought me to tears and still does to this day! Please give me a second to wipe the tears from my eyes. He told me and my son that he appreciates the gesture but it WAS A PRIVILEGE to serve HIS COUNTRY! And I will not lie that hit me like a ton of bricks! What happened to the real men who were proud to be called to defend our Freedoms? This man was so humble that every time I think about his words I start crying like a baby! What has this country become????

Wow, John, this is so beautiful I’m crying. My four uncles served in WWII. Yes they were the best of America. They never spoke of it. Would never talk about it. All are buried with military honors. Remarkably, they all came home. My aunt even served in the Navy during WWII. She never spoke of it either. My dad and younger uncle served as well. Daddy on a destroyer in the Pacific after Korea. Uncle Ben served in the Army as a pilot. He was shot down over the DMZ in Korea between wars. He was held as a POW in North Korea. He came home after a year, but died in a solo plane crash in the mountains of north Georgia. So I never knew him. My father could not talk about Ben or his service either. The men in my family were the best men I’ve ever known. I would be called Ben had I been a boy. I was born a year after he died. The veterans in my family said, every one, that the heroes were the ones who did not come home. You wrote a beautiful song for your grandfather. God Bless you and your family. I thank every single person who has served this country in war and peace. 🙏🏼🧡💙😪🇺🇸🦅

I'm an Army brat. Daddy joined the Navy at the tail end of WWII. I don't remember when he joined the Army, but one of Mommie's brothers brought him back from a tour in Germany. They were married in 1958. During his military career he served in several states and did tours in Korea, Vietnam, and Germany. Our family was blessed because he and my brother both served in Vietnam and they came back alive. Neither talked about their experiences over there. Daddy left this earth 10 years ago. My brother is living with my sister. My husband, also, had a career Army man for a dad. I can't thank the veterans enough for serving wherever their commanders tell them to go. There are several of you country artists who write such heartfelt lyrics. I always listen to "8th of November" every year. Thank you for honoring the men and women who live with seen and unseen battle scars.
