The Manado Method=Golden fleece technique often used, often forgotten and new discovered, it does work with several materials but is not well known in the world. Nice to see it again in use it was well known in the acient times.

Dish soap is what most of us use in the U.S. to break the surface tention of the water while panning cons. Soap stops the floating of fine, or what we call flour gold.

If a few drops of detergent are added to the clean up bath where the concentrates are cleaned up it breaks the surface tension of the water making the water "wetter" so the small gold flakes don't float off

Well, it's been 4 years now since this Video was posted. Has the Manado Method become popular with all the workers? or have some held on to the Mercury method? It would be interesting to know if they all converted, and remained healthy, and more profitable for all their hard work.

Inefficient method for the fine particle size they are producing down to 0.5 microns I would think considering the smooth lining of the mill jars..Don't send a white chap all the way there.Just send a good quality shaker table and some one who can assay material.One unit could run continually and do the work of ten mill plants of that size.Sluices are only effective down to 5 microns if you are lucky.
@kmmining1359

They still need the mill plants to create the slurry to feed the table. having said that, I totally agree, shaker table all the way, less hassle, more efficient and cleaner.

how do you know this is more effectively than the mercury method? I mean, it would be great if miners switching to something without mercury, but how can you convince them when they are so stuck on mercury being integral to the process? also, are these mats better than commercially produced mats? I would think those are purpose built for gold recovery and would thus perform better than natural materials.

You guys are wonderful and peaceful miners. From now on we will try to use Ijuk. But i am not sure if we have that exact palm tree here in philippines. We have coconut that also has that fibre. only it is brown in color. But the Ijuk look so thick. We would like to bring this message across to Philippines miners. Terima Kasih

Absolutely brilliant! Good for you! Some bright young fellow with an entrepreneurial drive to him needs to find a local alternative in America for the palm fiber your Indonesians use, and then market that fiber to miners here in the States. Synthetics such as miner's moss are too expensive. I'm thinking of the fiber used in evaporative coolers. Something like that ....

People will still be using Mercury simply because it's more efficient collecting the Micron size gold. The way they're using this plant fiber is no more efficient then synthetic Rubber Matting. Even the use of Borax does not do what the Mercury can do. Mercury Bonds at the Molecular levels and aid in the collection of the Micron Gold. The only way to do this job without Mercury is to simply slow down the process and take more time in the settling of the Gold. Time is money to these folks and they just don't want to do it that way. Good luck coaxing them out of Mercury Use.
