I understand what you said about not sure about the logic but I would also point this out to you. She actually used the dark saber in her rescue, and when she used it, she had no problem wielding it. It wasn't too heavy for her, she literally was wielding it like it was an extension of her body, just like she supposed to. I would consider Din a temporary custodian until Bo, had grown up and grown beyond her feeling that she was entitled to rule, but had actually earned it. Both by her flawless and effortless wielding of the dark saber, and by seeing the mythosaur

You guys are missing the actual point about the exchange of the Darksaber. When Din was defeated, and the Darksaber was taken by that creature, it became that creature's because it won it through combat. Then, Bo-Katan wins it from the creature. It's then hers. She had no right to give it back to Din Djarin, and he no longer has legitimate claim of it; that was exactly like Sabine giving it to Bo-Katan. Without realizing it, and not honoring the rules of the Darksaber, she handed HER Darksaber to Din Djarin. It's not "shaky logic" at all... It's the actual rules of the Darksaber, and Din was basically telling the "chain code" of the Darksaber as it now exists, and the other Mandalorians recognized it in accordance with those rules. According to the rules, he hasn't had legitimate possession of the Darksaber since the moment that creature took it from him, and now they all know that. They all know in their minds now that it belongs to Bo-Katan through victory in combat. And, to answer your question, yes, this means that for a few moments in time, that strange creature was rightfully the ruler of Mandalore. He won the Darksaber through combat; no Mandalorian would be able to dismiss that Truth.

@@LordSplittawig Din used in the End a technicality. What he said is true....from a certain Point of view ^^. Bo-Katan propably wanted to point out that she needed to initiate a One-on-One fight for the Saber and that is why she gave the Darksaber to Din after she Rescued him. But Din knew it was from a point of View different and he used this Logic to a) give Bo-Katan a reason to Accept the Darksaber and b) a reason for the other Mandalorians, Night Owls and Children of the Watch, to accept that Bo-Katan was the rightful Owner. This way Din Djarin fixed many Problems in a clever, even selfless looking way (he put Unity of the Mandalorians before personal Power).

@@LordSplittawig It was never a combat situation. Din was caught in a cage trap. That would be like someone setting a bear trap, then saying they fought a bear... Funny enough, Din was using the dark saber as a key fob. There's a silver key ring on the handle...

There have been a lot of people getting mad that Din's role isn't as big as they think it should be, but for me I love it. He's the LINCHPIN that all of these events are swirling around. Luke wasn't the sole protagonist of the original trilogy because there was a much larger story than JUST his. I feel this is the same way here, and I love that it's not just a single person for multiple seasons, but focusing on how a single person can fit into HUGE waves galaxy-wide. In a very real way, I feel that if it was a story made solely with Din as the only protagonist, we wouldn't be getting nearly as epic a story.

Great reaction! Just wanna give my two cents: I think Din is making the argument that the bionicle creature who captured him was technically the rightful possessor of the Dark Saber, even if it didn't understand the significance before it died. Like with Gideon who was never formally recognized as a potential Mandalore or any sort of ruler, but he did have to be defeated to claim the Saber. I doubt Gideon ever specifically said "I challenge Bo-Katan for the title of Mandalore," he just looted Mandalore of all its fancy relics. Like, the bionicle specifically beat Din in a (short) fight and stripped him of his weapons, Dark Saber included. If that doesn't count as a transfer of ownership, I don't know what is.
@bootysnatcher4207

Sure the bionicle beat him, but it wasn’t in a dual. Maul vs Pre Vizla, Mando vs Gideon. Both are duals. (Sure Gideon didn’t specify that, but there were no hidden bs tricks. On Mandalore, Mando was trapped then drugged. Then when he tried defending himself a second time, he did it heavily impaired. The logic behind giving her the Darksaber is that Bo wasn't supposed to give it back to him in the first place. He lost it to his captor, which means that creature became the new owner. I think Bendu is right with the Darksaber being more Elder wand-ish. Not by killing your opponent, but by disarming it from the current wielder instead. Because we don't know exactly how Moff Gideon got it other than speculation he won it from Bo, but she's still living so then he wouldn't be the rightful owner. I mean also on Wookieepedia it shows that the Unidentified Cyborg was an owner.

This is how I see it…Din most likely also thinks his logic was simplistic and dumb because he probably thinks their way is simplistic and dumb. He didn’t want the saber in the first place at the end of S2 by trying to hand it over saying “i yield.” That’s not his understanding of the Creed but he knows it’s theirs and if a technicality can get them to join in retaking Mandalore while thrusting Bo back into leadership where I think he thinks she should be, then why not use it. It’s almost like he’s mocking them while furthering the overall goal.

So, the Elder Wand logic. Draco disarmed Dumbledor, Harry disarmed Draco. The Droid disarmed Din, Bo-Katan killed the droid. Going by this logic, it is totally working. If we look at the Mandalorian here, Bo-Katan could have just taken the Dark Saber... but she did not, even though she would have all the right to do so. Which makes it even more honorable for her to have it given to her freely... in the end, it is all Mandalorian superstition, but creed wise... i believe it to be absolutly valid.

@Kyle Katarn, 18:04 That was one of Bo-Katan's conditions for helping Din save Grogu, remember? She wanted Gideon's ship and to be the one to take him down. 4:45 That doesn't matter, though. Din was defeated and his weapon was on the ground and was at the discretion of the creature that had captured him; it belong to him, not Din at that moment. Fast forward to Bo-Katan't encounter with that creature, and her victory over it. She defeated the creature that defeated Din. Bo-Katan wanted to face Gideon last season because she wanted to challenge the wielder of the Dark Saber. Gar Saxon didn't defeat Maul, Ahsoka did. Yet, he took the Dark Saber for himself because no one else came to claim it. Sabin later defeated him and took the Dark Saber from him. Sabin gave it to Bo-Katan and for a time, it was enough for Mandalorians to respect that gifting. This time around, however, Bo-Katan rightfully won the weapon in combat, which a big part of her culture. That victory and the story with it, and her victory over the man who took her forces from her, will strengthen her hold on leadership. This was a great story, and it had a lot of fun guest appearances. I can't wait to see where this goes. I wonder if Bo-Katan is done patching things up or if she's got one more stop on her list. I'm referring to the man she refused to call a Mandalorian last season, Boba Fett! The Mandalorian is the one who will lead them all, no? Seems like that person is actually Bo-Katan. Din kicked things off, sure, but Bo-Katan is the heir apparent according to the Armorer and Din's okay with that. Mending old wounds between the Children of the Watch and regular folk is important, but shouldn't she also mend things with Boba Fett as well? It isn't fair to blame him for what Jango did. He's still a foundling and he knows their traditions. He might not call himself a Mandalorian, but if he could, he likely would. He's a man with no people to call his own, and we saw what it meant for him when the Sandpeople made him one of them. It meant the world to him. Boba Fett isn't pleased with what he's accomplished on Tatooine. He feels incomplete. Why introduce him last season and with the other Mandalorians, if he's not part of the endgame to bring back Mandalore and all its glory. We have a Mandalore because of Boba Fett. To be honest, I thought the guy that all of Mandalore hated was going to be the one to unite them all, but I'm fine with Bo-Katan being the one. Anyway, that's my take on all this.

Regarding the darksaber, I think Din bent the rules and found a loophole on purpose as a way to support Bo. Fist of all he never really wanted the saber to begin with, but he knew that Bo needed the darksaber if they were to secure their allegiance. They wouldn't follow Din because of his affiliation with the COTW and they wouldn't follow Bo without the saber. So, he found a loophole and did what he had to do to rally those mandalorians to their cause. The sword doesn't have power, its the story. But, I could also be completely wrong, so who knows

Good episode. Bryce has her dad's touch. Now Bo will have to handle the damage her people did as mercenaries. And then toss in the beskar found at Moff's destroyed transport. I expect them to handle this problem next episode and the final will be taking Mandalore. Also expect some friction with the two groups.

Seems to be the perfect place for Din to to take home the parts kit for IG11. Very fun episode. Din continues to show how his travels make him able to work with the different species and people of the galaxy. This will pay dividends eventually.

What’s interesting is the Armorer didn’t want the Beskar spear around cause it could damage Beskar and hurt other Mandalorians but made Din the whistling birds out of the extra Beskar Din brought (minus what they save for foundlings). I thought when I heard Beskar Alloy that it was Dark Troopers. From what I remember no Mandalorian armor or weapon is Beskar Alloy. They revere Beskar too much to mix it with other metal.

Heard Christopher Lloyd was in this season. Jack Black and Lizzo surprised me though. Droid cantina took me back to A New Hope. Bo holding that Dark Saber gave me goosebumps. People complain it isn't Din's show anymore. It's called world building. Set up Ashoka and more.

This was one of the best episodes ever so far! Jack Black, Lizzo and Christopher Lloyd?! And all the Clone Wars references were just insane! When Christopher Lloyd was mentioning Dooku, do you guys think he was literally about to mention Anakin cut him down in his prime before being tazed? I think based on the subs he was about to by mentioning Jedi enforcer. Awesome reaction though, always pointing somethings I missed in the background

The Darksaber/Elder Wand analogy sums it up perfectly. As soon as Bionicle took it, you had to know this was coming. Of course, what happens next is that Bo-Katan tells Din about the Mythosaur, and you can guess who'll get to ride it into battle against Moff Gideon. It's the merging of the "two worlds" that they've already foreshadowed. Oh, the Bo-Katan Mythosaur pauldron swerve was good, but someone else also has a spare pauldron with nothing on it.

One thing to consider: since their following to the Creed/Old way is less strict/dogmatic, the use of such logic can/could work on those. It might not work as well on The Child of the Watch, but that's something they can talk/seek advise with the Armorer about. Right now, getting back the fleet under her is their priority, and if using that logic work, might as well go for it.

You could argue that the question wasn’t about who beat who, but more about who got possession of the sabre after losing it. Bo picked up the sabre that Din lost and killed his defeater with it. If Din had died before Bo came does that mean that no-one could ever rightfully possess it again? I mean, when you have such strict rules of honour your gonna end up with lots of weird edge cases.

This episode was basically made after the "buddy movie" model from the 80's. 2 "cops" together, jokes everywhere, a corrupt/malfunctioning elite, a chase in a crowded street ending with a thug shot, then they find the address of a shady bar, music stops there because they don't like "coppers", good cop/bad cop... It's all there, and I found it pretty nice that they managed to adapt it to the star wars universe.

I don't think beskar is also force resistant is it? Just blaster/saber? I'd also have to go rewatch the Luke fight, he could very easily have been targetting weak spots (points where the plates connect, etc) and not just cutting directly through the metal head on.

Well, the giant key is like a diplomatic gift Bo can now bring back to the Clan as well as her Night Owl's renewed loyalty, which is already an excellent start to her journey of "bridging worlds" or whatever, 2 for the price of 1. Bo has strengthened the clan directly and has made an ally of a potentially quite wealthy world able to finance and trade with the Mandos to aid in mandalore's reconstruction. I can imagine they key being displayed in whatever great hall the new Mandos will build as a gift of friendship and alliance between the two worlds, I can see a whole bunch of diplomatic gifts like that being displayed, if the Mandos are truly looking to be more open to the galaxy again instead of always fighting it one way or another. I really want the Mandos and their friends to have a happy ending and to not get dusted by the First Order or Thrawn or Gideon. and in a direct democracy I'm not really sure what else the Queen could do besides knight people, more as a sign of recognition or respect than anything else.

This was a GREAT episode. I absolutely loved the esthetic of that planet. So many cool aliens on screen too! And the droid killer mission was cool. I agree it definitely brought some traumas back for Din. And that logic about the Darksaber being rightfully hers is what I've been saying since that episode. It's great that she gave it back but he's not the rightful owner anymore. She's back in command of her fleet now. How many more tribes does she need to bring in?

I've been mulling this over for a while and even retracted something I'd previously said regarding the darksaber part. I personally believe there's a bigger picture retelling happening when it comes to Mandalorians, their creed, and their resurgence going forward. We all know that it's the story tied to the darksaber that gives power to whomever wields it, and while the enemies of Mandalore (Gideon, etc...) would like to reinforce the one that encourages in-fighting of Mandalorians, we're now seeing essentially the story tied to the darkblade being rewritten to one that involves saving Mandalorian lives instead of taking it. All bets are off the table when Bo-Katan had the mythosaur appear to her, that even someone as devout as the armorer has accepted that Bo-Katan is the uniter and, while not bound to a helmet, still walks the way (proving how much she values Mandalorian lives like Ragnar's and Axe's) and should become the next Mandalore.

The logic is perfectly sound as the challenge for the Darksaber denotes any battle were the blade is taken from the owner thus making the spider borg the victor against Din.

The only thing that was missing during when Bo Katan and Din Djarin goes and meets with the other Mandalorians is some war tents, maybe some of the other warriors dueling each other. And relying on droids so heavily to do every single piece of hard work for them, reminds me of Zakuul.

"Din was being a middle schooler about it..." No, neither of you get the point. By this logic, Din never owned it since he never defeated Darth Maul or Pre Vizsla. It's not necessary for Bo to defeat Mando. Mando was disarmed and defeated in ep 2. The Dark Saber was no longer his. By their rules, that thing would have been able to claim rulership just as Maul did. Bo killed it and took the Dark Saber, then laid it by Mando's unconscious body. Fighting Din was not a necessary step.

Kind of poetic that the last time Bo-Katan heard the words 'One warrior to another', it was from Maul when he challenged and killed her friend Viszla, and later killed her sister, both with the Darksaber. You can tell she was hesitant to ignite it. Now she uses it and those words to take her home back, Satine would be proud.

Look, Din lost the Darksaber when he was captured. Bo took it from the alien that took it from Din in a fight. She then used it to kill the being that possessed it rightfully through combat and used it to kill the alien possessor. At that point the Darksaber was rightfully hers through the trial of combat. What confused me is why she gave it back to Din at that point in the first place as by Mando rules is was rightfully hers. Din giving it to her this episode just fixed that particular conflict.
