I think Gideon might go down in the next episode. I think Bo will kill him with the darksaber with the help of a Jedi/s (Ahsoka and or Luke or even Ezra) handling the Praetorians. Then at the end Thrawn will show up or we see him get news of Gideons demise.

@@bigboycombo6342 that’s what I’m thinking. They’re not going to take Gideon alive this time but, given that he was starting to get a bit full of himself, the other Imps probably won’t shed too many tears. I was like “have you not been paying attention this whole freaking time?!” I mean, it’s been so obvious to me and I agree that people are just too impatient. this episode has been my favorite thus far and that ending…whoa. RIP Paz Vizla. I was also getting super emotional during that scene because man, he went down like a beast and I just feel so sorry for his son. thanks for another amazing reaction! ❤

Din is the catalyst/key. If he hadn't gone back to Mandalore, Bo would have never seen the mythosaur. He restored her faith that Mandalore could be retaken and rise from the ashes. Bo seeing the mythosuar also restored faith in the Amrorer; she could see that the new age of Mandalore was now upon them. Din was the key the catalyst for the whole chain of events unfolding. And him being taken off by himself, he will break free and take down Giddeon and his base from within.

Agreed. Bo may have moved into the foreground for much of the season, but I see that only as a function of Mandalore moving to the foreground for the season -- her story and Mandalore's are intimately interwoven, she being very much the embodiment of 'present-day' Mandalore, in particular its political situation -- and establishing her within the over-all story as a significant character in her own right (whether that be because she'll be significant going forward or because her story is coming to an en...). But for the story itself, all of it was initiated and has been pushed along at every step by Din just doin' what Din does: Everyone tells him 'You can't go back.' He goes back. He brings Bo to The Children. He gets The Children out of hiding. And Bo has very much relied on his encouragement and increasingly as confidant, in all reality the only true friend she's ever had because the only one with sufficiently sterling integrity (and a Baby Yoda by his side to be to him what he's been to her) to be completely uninterested in anything but the one thing she's been trying to figure out all along, doing what's right by The Way and by Mandalore. I mean, there's such a contrast between Din turning down Karga's suggestion that 'there's a lot of money to be made' and offer to 'settle down and live off the fat of the land' versus the shame Bo's Mandos have fallen into and even the fate The Children would be in without him, given how stubborn and earth-bound they are (they'd probably would have kept hiding in a cave in a desert until they died off). Bo's been a great character, but I don't see how anyone could say that she's not very largely just been caught up in Din's wake. Din's story, to my mind, has remained the basso continuo in which everything in the foreground's remained based.
@ZillahMoore
@ZillahMoore Жыл бұрын
@@jacksonjames2489 thank you, this is perfectly articulated, I couldn't agree more. I don't see Din taking a back seat, I see him being the beating heart of this story, its just the story got bigger. That speach he gave to Bo this week, about her song not yet being written, had me in tears. And one of the greatest gifts he has given Grogu is providing the opportunity to interact and learn from so many different characters without judgement or prejudice. Imagine the leader Grogu can become with such role models to mentor him - hes already starting on that journey.

@@HIPsteHeero Haha. Man, do I feel your pain. The whole time I'm just like (*facepalm*), Guys, it's a mystery, especially for our heroes. As far as they know, the Empire's been defeated and Moff Gideon's been taken out with the trash. Of course they're gonna come back to a galaxy that they think is mostly chill after their success and of course our villains are going to wait off-screen while they regroup before being revealed. You get a hint here and there while our characters go about their business, but otherwise our villain's whole goal is to stay off-stage. There wouldn't have been much of a reveal if we knew Gideon was already on Mandalore this whole time nor any of that 'Who freed him?' speculation, which is still going strong with speculation about The Armorer. (I could be wrong, the finale could really shit the bed for the whole season, but assuming it doesn't, I've been totally baffled by how much some -- emphasis on some -- people have been pissing themselves all season long. Like, genuinely perplexed. I increasingly think it has to do with watching it as though it were an episodic tv show versus watching it more as a single movie broken up into parts. The latter allows for patience in a way the former doesn't, I think.)

First time viewer, commenter and subscriber. Thank you for the insightful analysis. I have been saying the exact same points to this season. Din is the shonen protagonist, the reason for all of this redemption happening this season. It's true. Some fans are so myopic about the show and can't see the forest because of the trees. Or are just impatient this day and age with storytelling. Favreau and Filoni know what they are doing. Jon Favreau said this season's theme was redemption and it played out beautifully over six episodes this far, for Din, Bo-Katan, Grogu and the Mandalorians. And yes! Because of episodes 3 and 6, we got a ton of world-building for the greater Galaxy and Mandalore has gained a planetary ally in Plazir-15 - which is HUGE.

That does bring up a thought I always kinda had about Gideon, going all the way back to the first season where Cara Dune remarked that he's suppose to be dead. What if Gideon was always a clone of himself? Also factor in how in season 2 he was perfectly ready to off himself rather then be taken captive, which in turn makes me wonder if he wasn't actually "rescued" from the new republic, but rather that version of him died in that attack, and they just took the body to keep this secret. At least that's my wild theory.

Thank you, Omni! I'm with you on this. This season has been something. It's much deeper than just action and the thrills. I loved the slow moments and the "side stories" (as how people put it) because they feed into the bigger narrative. The big events impact more because of those small moments... And though I can kinda understand the hate or the complaints, I really don't agree with them. I am happy with the decisions the showrunners have made for this show. It's actually well thought out. There are no small or random things. They always come back around. If not, they just haven't yet. I'm just enjoying this ride and watch in awe the story that the showrunners want to tell and are telling, and not linger on what whiny fans want to see. Some people complain so much that they miss the point. But as have been said, you can't make everyone happy. You're not pizza 🍕 😉

This reminds me a lot of something Lance Reddick said about John Wick's journey on the press run for the fourth movie. The rules we follow initially come around as a way for us to preserve what makes us people. But given enough time, those rules become tradition, and at that point, we uphold them for the sake of preserving the culture, even if it means doing that in spite of ourselves. It's at that point that we need individuals who are willing to break tradition, for the sake of preserving what makes us people again. If to reclaim her leadership, Bo had fought Din for the Darksaber, it would've been for the sake of tradition in spite of their character growth

This episode was amazing. But even more than your reaction, I appreciated your analysis of the broader themes of the season. The fact that the episodes have been titled "Chapters" in each season has been a flag, to me, of the idea that the seasons are meant to be considered as unified story arc chunks. Rushing to judge each individual episode in a vacuum to highlight alleged weaknesses while also disregarding the larger themes/points/plot threads being carried from episode to episode just reeks of bad faith, so it's heartening that you (and others) are picking up what the writers are putting down.
@jacksonjames2489
@jacksonjames2489 Жыл бұрын
Amen and well-said. You're gaddamned right, 'heartening' is the right word for it. I really hope this perspective starts to disseminate more widely so that we can come back in future seasons without going through the week-to-week rigmarole of 'Well, it's lost its magic' until, when we reach the two-episode finale, after the hype's been stifled and suffocated for six weeks, videos start popping up with titles to the effect of, 'It's back' (forgetting that we've pretty much, at least to my -- who knows? probably faulty -- memory, gone through the same thing both of the previous seasons, two sets of three eps. that take their time and act like first and second acts, then a two-ep. third act finale, and also that when we come back we're coming back off the high of the previous season's climax and resolution). Like, there's been so much 'I wanted more Mandalorians doing Mandalorian shit' and it's just like, We're telling a story about the re-building of Mandalorians, we pretty much know there'll be more seasons and that this story will be inter-linked with other shows: there will be more Mandalorians; can we just sit back and enjoy the story of getting there? But, I guess, if you're not thinking of the 'episodes' as 'chapters,' as you say, in one continuously-building story, of course you're gonna be pissed if each installment doesn't have its own self-contained build-up, payoff and resolution. I don't know if Disney wants all the heat or if they've just not figured out a better way to set the frame for the viewing experience. I mean, I could be totally wrong, but for my own experience, approaching it as one long movie broken into eight parts, I can honestly say I've absolutely adored the season from top to bottom (the Pershing stuff drags a little for my taste cuz I don't especially care about the particular characters and the import of the events is -- for obvious reasons -- elusive, but narratively and thematically I think it a perfectly reasonable inclusion so I can take the story in stride and, if nothing else, just gawk at scenic Coruscant).

The huge set of B@lls on Gideon! He's like, "Yeah, we hear about Thrawn's return, but where is he??" If Thrawn were to come around he knows he would have to answer to him and be under his command. The painting underneath the Light Cruiser of the Mythosaur was freaking bad@ss!! Equivalent to a huge middle finger to the Empire. Seeing the number of Mandalorians grow through the episode got me so pumped up!! All the volunteers of the mission, even more so!! The survivors on the planet showing up and joining!! LET'S GO! The writers and directors knew we were going to be psyched and then pulled the rug and floor out from underneath us!!! They took Grogu away from Din and now they took Din away from Grogu!!! FFFFFFFFFFFFF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! By killing Paz they created a monster in Ragnar!! His reckoning in the future will be apocalyptic!! I want that to become a series!! Your review was a bit longer than usual but this episode clearly warranted it and I was stuck on every single word!! I had a feeling this episode was going to be loaded but not in my wildest dreams. See you for the breakdown video!! Take care, Omn1

PLEASE TELL ME I'M NOT BY MYSELF ON THIS! Is the Armourer working with Moff Gideon? She is the one who sent Bo to get the other Mandolorians, which would gather them all in one place. She was the one who kept preaching that Madalore was cursed, thus preventing other Madalorians from investigating themselves and enabling Moff to build a base on the planet. She also CONVENIENTLY left before the major fight. Why was SHE the one to take the injured back to the ships? Now she is in place to sabatoge the ships if she is a traitor. I hope I'm wrong in this, but I don't think I am.

I've seen suggestions that the title of the episode may be a reference to the 12 spies that Moses sent into Canaan to scout the land as a possible home for the Israelites.

With the Biblical and Western themes The Mandalorians are based on I think that probably what the title actually meant now that you planted that seed into my head. Especially if you consider that if Bo is our Moses and discount Grogu since he was a foundling and a package deal with Mando, there were twelve Mandalorians who volunteered in their scouting team that went down to the planet and they are doing exactly what the 12 spies did. Scouting the promise land ahead to make sure it's safe for their people. The rest of the Mandos are in orbit awaiting the scouts to tell them its safe.

Dude, I love how well you put into perspective just how brilliantly threaded these chapters have been. Well explained man! It’s nice to hear a voice that can appreciate the beautiful storytelling that has been going on. It takes time to tell a complex bigger story, and I feel this episode wove so many threads together in a dynamic and cohesive way.

wow! what an amazing analysis. All of your points of unity and disunity throughout this season really brought clarity to me. YES, Din is the heart (kar'ta) of the Mandalorians with his integrity and honor. I think he is going to be tortured and his helmet removed by Gideon. Perhaps using Din as bait to pull the others back. Can't wait for the finale!

I really appreciate your thoughts on the last episode and the season in general. I agree 100%. It's a slow burn kind of season. The "loophole" that allowed Din to give Bo the dark saber was just a compromise. It was the whole point of this season. The theme. Setting aside archaic traditions and ways of thinking to unite as one people. Bo was the leader they needed, and giving her the dark saber was a unity moment. It made so much sense to me. All the elements they have been sprinkling throughout the season came together beautifully in this episode. I've been loving this season. I can't wait for next week.

I agree. The season's mission began last season. We know where it is going. How, is what we are watching and it's been really fun, goofy at times, but that is Star Wars. I cannot wait for the conclusion and I am also excited because S4 has already been written.

I hope all the friends Din has made come to help him. Captain Bombardier (Jack Black's character) being a former imperial could have some insight or input to help rescue Din. If Grogu could somehow call Luke and Ahsoka, that would be awesome. Ragnar might even help to avenge his father.

Can we take a moment to appreciate the Paz Vizla's moment of sheer badassery where he gets impaled in the chest by the Praetorian Guard's weapon, and uses the weapon to pull himself closer to the Guard, driving it deeper into his own chest so that he can get close enough for one last shot? Right at 21:23 This is the fucking way.

11:40 Good to see I'm not the only one who got really emotional watching this scene! I thought it was really powerful, and I love the bond they've formed. I think some people think the protagonist always has to be in charge, has to be the strongest, best fighter, etc. But sometimes the role of the protagonist is to be the heart of the story.

I don't understand why people are so upset that Din isn't center stage. I see it like Andor, Andor isn't the hero of his own series, it's him encouraging the change to uplift the hope for the future. I enjoy Din and Grogu being simple characters, watching the world around them change and adapting. Din doesn't need to be the leader of Mandalore. AS long as he's helping them come together up close that we can enjoy the story, I'm happy where he is atm. I think that's a great story.

I think the Armorer is the other spy. She's the one who got Bo-Katan to get all the other mandos together, she just happened to leave to take the injured right before this all went down, she and Gideon both have those horns on their helmets, and perhaps she's the one who taught Gideon's crew how to forge beskar.

Om1 what most fans don't understand is the original EU but Filoni and Favreau do. When you don't have an understanding of that EU then you won't see Zahn's books but those that do see want to create the Mando-Verse. You did one of the best SW break downs I have ever seen, "strong force this one is".
