That was General Hux's father there as a part of the Shadow Council, who was played by Hux actor's own brother. He was the one that offered the three Praetorian Guards.

I was wondering what the relation was, since it wasn't entirely clear how old the Hux we knew was in the sequel trilogy. As much as some people they weren't going for it, I felt the whole thing on Coruscant with the "Former Imperials" was setting up the rise of the First Order, and I'm glad we got the Hux and Praetorian references to confirm the trajectory the timeline is going in, just to settle the debate. I may not like much of the sequel trilogy, but I wouldn't expect Disney to just abandon their own material without a Marvel-scale event to signify the change.

Actually one of my favorite moments of this episode was at 6:08 when I realized Grogu was sitting in Bo's lap instead of Din's. Kiddo got himself a dad *and* a mom ^_^

I love the parallels to Season2. In eps 7, Grogu was captured and Mando + team had to rescue him. In Season 3, Mando is captured and Grodu + team will go rescue him.

Adam, you are thinking of the Director of Imperial Intelligence, Ysanne Isard, who was the main baddie in the X-Wing book series. However, she took over the Empire immediately after Palpatine's death, and was out of the picture by the time Thrawn came on the scene. There *was* a female admiral who *tried* to reunite the Empire after Thrawn's death, Admiral Natasi Daala, Tarkin's lover/mistress (yeah...get THAT mental image out of your head if you can), but Daala was rather ineffectual on her first try. She did better the second time around, working with Pellaeon, but ofc, ultimately failed because the bad guys must lose in the end. (And really, she was never that well-written)

I think it's less that Daala was badly written and more that she was deliberately written as being short-sighted and overly aggressive. The only smart decisions she made when she took over the Imperial Remnant was a) poisoning all the various squabbling warlords to prevent further infighting and b) handing leadership over to Pelleaon when her attack on the New Republic turned into a disaster.

​​@@paulhewes7333 Uh nope lol , Paz was literally gassed out and only then got attacked by the 3 guard, it wasn't a fair fight , a fresh Paz could have taken out 1 guard for sure , the guards are not better fighters than the top Mandalorians which Paz is , he is from one of the most legendary Mandalorian bloodline, the guards are top tier but they are not on the 'i can kill Jedi' tier, Boba and Jango van take out several Jedi with their bare hands and Paz is a big brawler, Boba>average Jedi>Guards , surely Boba would clap Paz but by scaling Boba is way above any guard so Paz would be a match for 1 guard, not for 3 after a gassed out fight , you also forgot that Rey barely had any training before meeting the guards and still took out a few without even using the force , the guards are overrated if we go by their pathetic feats, neither Rey of Kylo used the force while they barely had any training (well Kylo had but Rey didn't) and they were 8 vs 2 , they are good but I never heard a Royal or Praetorian guard take out Jedi but there are Mandalorias who took out Jedi aka a top tier Mandalorian is above a Royal/Praetorian guard

I was already enjoying the season, but this episode really makes it all look and feel different. To know that they were going on this quest thinking they were moving quickly toward retaking Mandalore from the wild, only to find out it already has a new ruler, is pretty crushing. It also explains things like the huge interceptor fleet near Bo's castle. They really tied it all together.

I think the "spies" in the episode are the Mandalorians that were left on Mandalore. I can't see Gideon allowing them to travel around unmolested for all those years. He captured them, turned them and then sent them out as double agents. On the entire surface of the planet, the survivors happen to be near the area where Bo-Katan landed... and then led Bo-Katan and co. right to the ambush site without a single mention of Imperial buildup on the planet (which they would've had to know about if the Imperial base is within walking distance of the The Forge site.

I'm hoping the Shadow Council are the 'spies' and it isn't those mandalorians - however it is rather inexcusable for them to both know where the great forge is and not know there's a giant imperial base there. Course that raises the question of how the hell Gideon is able to communicate TO the Shadow Council considering the atmosphere...but maybe that's just something they actually control and isn't a side effect of the purge?

@@SwaggerLikeUz The Armorer helped defeat the pirates on Nevarro (something she could've easily sat out if she were an agent of Gideon's). Gideon wanted Nevarro taken over by the pirates. Then the Armorer sends Bo-Katan out to get more Mandalorians to take Mandalore... something Gideon knew nothing about until his conversation through the probe droid. The Armorer would've gotten word to Gideon that the plan had changed and she was leading all the Mandalorians into a trap on Mandalore, but he didn't know. She wouldn't have winged that on her own because it was such a radical change from Gideon's assumption the pirates took over Nevarro. She's a red herring. She has her own agenda and is using Bo-Katan, but she knows her covert could never return to Mandalore by themselves so using the other Mandalorians to take the planet helps her cause. Their cult doesn't try to convert people who don't want to join so it's not like she wants a holy war. She sees an political option in Bo-Katan, who can unite the Mandalorians where the Armorer cannot. Also, the Armorer saying she was going to take the wounded up is common sense. The strong fighters are still in the group and it keeps the group from being slowed down because of the wounded. Lastly, the episode was called "The Spies" not "The Spy" so there are more than one spy. The Nomad Mandalorian leader was the one who led them to the cave. He also told them to head deeper in. You would think he's say "We need to be careful. There's an Imp base nearby with shiny halls connecting the Forge to the base, but he didn't say a word.

The foresight of Gideon to glass Mandalore under guise of "These people are dangerous and need to be made an example of.." when in reality he was creating a comms dead zone that is incapable of being scanned from orbit while mining one of the most important resources from the planet all in secret. All decades prior to this moment. He's barely been in the series but he is by far the big bad.

I find it interesting that Gideon clearly has his own plan, separate from Thrawn's. Also the man has totally appropriated Mandalorian culture. I hope Din or Bo gets to tear that armor off him. I'm kinda worried about who the other spy is. I really hope it's not the Armorer. Maybe Axe? That would explain why he didn't assist at the end of season 2.
