There's definitely always room for speculation and interpretation which can lead to different experiences for different people. However, some people just take it too far and only see things they WANT to see instead of what's actually there. Interesting topic for sure tho.

I don’t know if you’ll see my response, but what do you mean in they ‘want to see it’? If your talking about how someone only looks at the positives and judges it on that? Or do you mean they take it way too far with the actual substance of the story, only taking into account a certain aspect.

@@idontmanga6692 No I mean stuff like when shippers will insist that character x and character y HAVE to become a couple because they believe that it makes sense even tho there was zero indications for it in the story itself. They are basically stuck in their delusions and don't really see the actual story and characters anymore and flee into their own fan fictions. At worst they'll even attack the author because their head canons didn't turn out to be true (which was obvious from the get-go). Do you know what I mean? It doesn't necessarily have to be about shipping tho, it can be about pretty much anyrhing in a story. Basically, people will see things that are not there but they'll die on that hill, thinking that it is there.
@idontmanga66924 ай бұрын
@@wolfbrigade8042 Yeah I definitely get what you mean. I don’t like the idea of “ if it doesn’t match my headcanon it’s automatically bad” there are a million other series out there and they don’t all have to be for you. It could also be about power scaling, ships, queer characters, moral ideas, etc. it reminds me of the times when people would get mad that their specific Video Game characters didn’t get into Smash.

Interesting video & I agree with most of it, media as a whole is very subjective & so is what a person gets from it especially, but you can argue/talk about what's objective & in it, but different ideas & perspectives will always be clashing. & yeah I'm someone who still has problems with reading between the lines & putting my thoughts & feelings into words tho I have gotten much better thankfully.
@idontmanga66924 ай бұрын
I definitely agree, I just believe there is no objectivity in something so broad as emotion, now you can say something like, “this manga has great characters” but it’s up to the reader if the characters actually appeal to you.

I like this opinion tbh I think the only thing I don’t agree with 100%(but I lowk still agree with) is that u can’t 100% get the full experience from a manga. I read bleach and I watched bleach and tbh the manga was just better to me in my opinion. Sure there’s fight scenes where you’d rather watch it but I think the more manga u read the better u can analyze fights. Great point tho love the vid
@idontmanga66924 ай бұрын
Yeah I didn’t bring this up in the video but manga art I believe to be timeless, where anime’s animation can just be outdated in 5 years. I said you couldn’t fully understand a manga because it’s created by only one person. And yes you could get 99.9% of it, you will never fully understand what the one person wanted his story to be.

I dont think anyone ever needs a reason to not enjoy something. Sometimes you just dont get any feelings from something, without any real reason.
@idontmanga66924 ай бұрын
Yes I agree, but I do feel that non enjoyment is usually from lack of experience. If a character is going through the loss of there parents or something like that, then it has too be shown well, if not, then there’s no way someone like me who has both parents is going to connect.

I think it has to do with people saying that if something is objectively good or bad that everyone has to like or hate it, like the greatest romance isn't going to be enjoyed by someone who doesn't like romance or the greatest action series isn't going to be liked by someone who only likes calm, slice of life series, or vice versa, A series can be just decent in terms of writing but is enjoyed by people who don't need everything they read to be amazing
@idontmanga66924 ай бұрын
What I was mainly talking about was different series can appeal to different people. Like you said, “A series can be just decent in terms of writing but is enjoyed…” but a series that is considered decent in your eyes could be the most emotional piece of media for someone, depending on how your affected by the characters. I saw a video that basically sums up everything I’m saying, it was something on the lines of, “the audience doesn’t cry because there’s a sad scene on the screen, we cry because of how it affects characters we’re attached to.”

I'll go a bit off topic here, because I want to express an opinion. As someone who is trying to make a manga my self, these mangakas pour out their heart and soul into every panel. Because of this, I dont hate on any manga or anime these days. I cannot stand it when someone calls a master piece trash. Honestly, I like every poular manga EXCEPT for hentai. I have no respect for hentai manga or anime. My point is that you shouldnt call a manga trash, even if it wasnt your favourite. Also, I TOTALLY agree with the fact that people have different experiences with manga, because people aren't open minded enough to see past their previous experiences
@idontmanga66924 ай бұрын
I can completely agree, even when I read something extremely boring I can still see stuff like the art work and be appreciative. I never thought of that idea of thinking tho. See, 2 people with different lives, agreeing on the same thing. How ironic.

Really, people need to know how to say "it wasn't for me" as stories would always be subjective no matter how objective the creative process of the story and intention of the author, we can only perceive what we saw in the stories and sometimes life experience can also affect how we see these stories in the first place
@themangaculture3 ай бұрын
@@kennethmendoza1350 totally agree. so many people do book reviews based on personal experience, but i think doing a review on how objectively good it is makes more sense, whether you enjoyed it or not
@kennethmendoza13503 ай бұрын
@@themangaculture I think at the end of the day regardless of enjoyment, there is no such a thing as objectivity when it comes to stories be it the process, the technical proficiency, the content of the story, the themes, people were the ones who put objective criterias on the things that we would mostly like on our stories and most of those criterias mostly just comes down to our own perception on what makes stories good, once all those things in the story appealed on the target audience, then that's how I think a story is objectively good.
