Alan Paul's smooth voice is perfection here. The perfect blend of 4 voices , RIP Tim Huaser.

Bosa Nova is already the single greatest rhythm ever and nothing is closer than a distant second -- and never will be. To weave a haunting melody like this one through an already irresistible rhythm as magical as bosa produces a tune you can't hear enough. You have to play it over and over and over and that's never enough either. WOW. What else can you say? Thank you MERVIN WARREN for a simply magnificent tune. K....RAZY resolution.

What a gift to us ------The Manhattan Transfer------they have been. It would never have happened had Tim hauser not had the dream, & the determination to stay with it until he found Janis, Laurel, & Alan. --------------Thank-you, MT for everything. ---------To Tim Hauser, THE most heartfelt gratitude. You know not to poo poo other vocal groups of late such as The New York Voices , Pentatonix, Naturally 7 , Take 6, and others but The Manhattan Transfer are still the tops when it comes to vocal artistry in the vein of accapella and instrumental backed vocals. This song and others proves that they still are the best.
@chrisblunt1179 Жыл бұрын
Please know that harmonization and instrumentation are two different things... while MT can harmonize with the best of them, Take 6 can do both... not many groups can do that.

Wow! Great tune, thanks for share it! #NOWandThen #JazzVocals

This may sound weird but it seems the mixing of the chorus is tighter. The phrasing is so exact, it’s more like one voice than 4
@hughvane6 жыл бұрын
Agreed. if its not sacrilegious to say so, they sound more than a little like The Real Group in jazz mode, or Singers Unlimited. That said, this group could have turned its extraordinary talent to almost any musical genre. 'A Nightingale Sang ...." is an excellent example of mixed musical metaphors.

I’m sure modern technology has a hand at play here. It’s nothing for a computer to quantize these vocal tracks and tighten them up. No shame in it. Everyone does it.

This song is amazing and the harmonies would likely be incredible...if it weren't for the absolutely stifling autotune employed to make them happen. How is no one hearing it? There's also a lot...like, a lot...of comp'ing on Alan's lead...along with the autotune. This is the Manhattan Transfer. Why was autotune used so liberally on them of all groups?
@jameslacey4603 жыл бұрын
Sorry to disagree with your hearing. You can Google this LIVE at any number of MT appearances and the harmonies are unchanged LIVE. Now does the studio have the ability to sharpen the voice? Of course. Makeup helps the woman but it doesn't take anything away from her when it's removed (unless you buy books just because of their covers). Google their various LIVE performances of this; I predict you'll have a change of heart.
