All of these old groups were great. It's kind of sad that The Drifters, The Manhattans, and The Cadillacs didn't rate as much time as the Tops and Temps. I guess that's how it is, but I thought "Under The Boardwalk" made it as big as most of the Temps' and Tops' songs. I know when I was a kid, you couldn't turn a radio on without hearing it played, for several weeks, seemed like months.

Drifters were before Motown. They were, still are my favorite group. A lot of their songs were written by Carol King who was only 16 at the time; Up on the roof, some kind of wonderful. She also wrote, Natural Woman, by Aretha. And many more. I also loved; Under the board walk.

In my younger days, The Temptations, because of Melvin Franklin, and The Four Tops, because of Levie Stubbs, were my favorite Motown acts, and The Temps are still close to my full favorites, with The Tops being full co-favorites, with another group, because of Levie and the whole, original, Four Tops group, remaining loyal to each other for their whole individual careers, and parted only with death. That is still, truly, a rare wonder, on this old planet.

I had the pleasure and privilege to see all of these groups except the Cadillacs (a few times for the Temps and Tops). No autotune. These gentlemen could sing - all of them. I do feel sad that the Cadillacs, in particular, do not get the recognition that they deserve. The fact that Speedo (Earl Carroll) had to work as a janitor for over 20 years (even when doing this show) is a disgrace while far lesser "talents" of the day made millions. It's sad that it took a book about him for school kids is what helped get him back, and he eventually did the oldies circuit after retiring from the school system.

Then you are blessed. I have no trouble believing I am this old. I am reminded of it with every step I take, and every time I get up out of a chair, and etc. What I have trouble believing and accepting, to some degree, is the apparent short length of time it has taken for me to get this old and stoved up. I was around 11, when it was released, and remember where I was the first time I heard The Four Tops, singing "I can't Help Myself".

My sister dragged me to a Drifter's concert at a hotel ~ after the first show, they let us in for the second show for free, because there was not enough of a crowd. She wanted to give one of the guy's a hug; he said "Not now sweetie, I am all sweaty." When I told him, 'thank you for coming to work tonight," he gave me a kiss on the cheek. She was livid. I loved the Drifters, by but that time, I had moved on to groups like O'Jays, EWF, B.B. KIng; others. So I did not remember the Drifter's name she wanted to hug.
