My Papi passed 12/31/2012 and my mom from the virus 02/06/2022. They divorced when I was about 4 or 5yrs old. But one night my dad gave it one last attempt. My memory was of all the lights of except the soft living room lamp, this song, and sneaking out of bed to see them slow dancing. 😢 I cry everytime I here it even now and I'm 50. Incredible song and even more incredible vocals. It's pure joy when Gerald Alston's crystal clear voice comes on after the intro. But Winfred "Blue" Lovett's low and cozy spoken vocals on the intro ("This has got to be the sadest day of my live...") is the pure killer for me. Perfection! And Lovett wrote the song too. Sadly he has already left us. RIP

This song stuck with me my whole life. I was a toddler when I first heard this song. Years later into my teens I heard it a recognized it. It was the same song I felt sad as a baby watching my mom cry. Back then I didn't know but it was the time they were going thru their divorce. 30 + years later I put the song on when my dad came to visit. Asked him if he remembered the song. Mind you I only had seen my dad once every 10 yrs for a week or so. This time about a year. He was like "Not where did you get this from?"

It was and still is his favorite kind of music, mine too. I bet I was the only white kid in 1st grade at Trigg County Kentucky elementary school who knew what STAX or Motown was. I’m 51 years old now and am passing this great music on to my 5 year old son.

They used to meet up in Hong Kong four times a year, in the meantime they sent each other love letters, which they all kept until today! They did that for 6 six years before finally marrying each other! Mind, that during that time there was no internet to get on a skype call and videochat!
