This song reminds me of my grandma (dads side) and grandpas (moms side) relationship. My dad is originally from Mexico and immigrated to the US and met my mom in Compton California. My mom is black and it stirred tension in the neighborhood. My mom’s dad did not like my dad one bit but accepted their relationship. My dad’s mom came from Mexico to visit and meet my mom and her family. She met my mom’s dad and they instantly hit it off. My grandmas husband had abandoned her many years back and my grandpas wife had passed away when my parents met. Both of my grandparents from opposite side of the family fell in love but there was a huge language barrier. They remained together for a few years until one day things just ended. And this song was one of my grandpas favorite songs. He showed it to my grandma and she eventually showed it to me. She would play it in the old cassette stereo when she felt sad and it would remind her of the better days. They both passed away in the recent years but this song still burns bright in my heart.
