In this episode, we are off the rails and headed to Manitou Springs, Colorado to conquer one of the toughest miles on Planet Earth, The Manitou Incline.
The Mantou Incline was once a clearing for a cable car, carrying materials to build pipelines on Pikes Peak. After the pipelines were finished, locals transformed this giant scar on the mountain into The Manitou Incline and opened the attraction to the public. Today, the Mantou Incline is just under one linear mile and ascends more than 2,000 feet in elevation over the course of 2,768 steps.
Be prepared for the effects of altitude. Base camp for the Manitou Incline sits at 6,500 feet in elevation. The summit is over 8,500 feet. Drink plenty of water and it might be a good idea to hang out in town for a day or two prior to ascending the incline, if you are not acclimatized to this altitude.
Reserve your spot to ascend the Manitou Incline for free at ManitouSprings.org, or follow this link:
manitousprings...
The incline is open to the public 6a to 6p daily.
Yes, it is worth the sweat to see the view from the top. Pikes Peak, America’s Mountain, is just on the other side. As you look over the valley below, you have a beautiful, unencumbered view of the Garden of the Gods in Colorado Springs.
Our Great Colorado Mountain Adventure was based in Manitou Springs, Colorado.

Thank you. Definitely a great spot! We’re still blown away by the sparse population of CO, compared to Tx. We’ll be going back for periodic altitude adjustments. :-)
