I'm a machinist apprentice at a steelmill, we have over 40 machinists. Pretty wild seeing the shop for the first time, we have a boring mill so big you could fit a dump truck on it

4:55 - 5:00 "This is the proper way when making a cut" In fact both ways are correct. The first way is called climb milling and the second, conventional milling. Each method has its advantages and disadvantages. But overall, I'll give you a 9 out of 10 for it. I guess for a newcomer, it'd easy get 10 out of 10 but when you compare it with other milling videos that are educational, there are some that are really cracking - and no daft music !

Thanks for watching! You are correct, both are proper. Just trying to avoid surprises from backlash. : ) “Conventional milling is safer on conventional machines. Climb milling will leave a better finish, and the CNC mill with a ball screw makes it the standard for CNC milling.

@@ChipMonkeys Interesting re the CNC aspect. I've had one experience of ballscrews and it did not end well ! (Hit the physical end-stop but the drive carried on ! - instant 'neutral') So can't say I'm a fan ! I see no reason for machines not to have two leadscrew nuts with light tension between them to remove backlash.

Hey, I made that "90's" Music! : ) I though it was more early 2000's-ish.... I converted this to Interactive Tutorials on CNCtutorials.com and it went over a bit better than the magical floating Mill in these videos. No music though.

Jeff Hooper you right it is more like early 2000. I liked it though for some reason it helped me focused better on the video. Also best video I’ve seen so far. I’ll check out the interactive one too. I can’t believe the video doesn’t have more views/comments. Maybe the older looking graphics turn people off but I’ve found the older the video the more quality content and less bs. I passed a lot of my engineering classes thanks to old 90s MIT lectures
