good advice because I've seen videos where they go into it's about what is best for people but really people need to do their own homework and in some cases it's not so much that you're going to be able to do all that is what the medical insurance will cover and I'm using a complex rehab power chair

Cost is a big factor - most Disabled people don't have the finances that non-disabled people have, especially if you can't work.

+PageMonster Yep, Wheelchairs can be incredibly expensive especially if you need one to be as light as possible. They do last though at least the one im in has, I am thinking I could do with a new one as I was fitted when I was about 11 years old and im 31 now. 20 years of use is good and it is still good I would keep this one as a spare but it is a bit small and could be much better.

I found a good quality chair last night on ebay. Tilite is selling $2600 chairs for $920 if you're okay with buying a demo chair. Go check it out if you're interested!

As an engineer and a new wheelchair user I can only say that the cost of an active wheelchair is robbery! I'm lucky in that I am getting a bespoke custom wheelchair because I'm buying a £50 one second hand and modifying it myself to fit me, now that I have found the limitations my Amazon bought generic one has.

The biggest difference I have found is the weight of the material used, it makes quite a difference in how tiring or not the wheelchair is to use. Obviously how much of a difference this is going to make depends a great deal on the location you live and whether you will be just using it on nicely kept flat concrete pathways and tarmac or lots of hills and gravel or grass, the latter is much harder work and the weight of the chair will make a huge difference. They do cost a fortune though, the one I have is made mostly of titanium but I have had it for about 20 years and I am well and truly outgrown it but cant afford to update it atm. having said the price is expensive given the life span of pretty much trouble free usage its not been that costly though I had about a decade where I was not needing the chair the majority of the time.

Im in the process of looking for another chair, not even my main chair, just a little runaround (ironic) to use at home and quick trips out that i dont mind getting beaten up a bit, and even that is a pain to get the right one, i sometimes think less options would be better lol

Thinking im going with a TiLite next, I currently have a Quickie GPV and I’ve extended the casters all the way forward and canted the wheels out for stability when I’m on the bike/jogging trails how ever I’d like to get something for inside the house and small places.

I LOVE my TiLite!! Some beefy but crazy light 24 spoke Spinergy rear wheels, and some fatty 5" x 1.5" Aluminum Soft Roll front casters and this thing is great for small places AND for offroading some intense and sketchy trails!!

I love my Ti Lite wheelchair, I had quickie chairs before, but then I changed to Ti lite, I am impressed, perfect chair, Love the feel of the chair, moving around,. it is by far my favorite chair!!!

that color razor chair sounds cool. what are power wheels? I don't have the strength in my arms to use manual but I need to get out for my friend to help me around when my powerized wheelchair a Jazzy elite is constantly breaking down. I really appreciate the details that the guy in the brown shirt in the band mentioned. I m right at that level of looking at chairs.

"Power Wheels" are a bolt-on package that give Users a "boost" of propulsion when needed (up hills, bad terrain, etc). They're a bridge between Users that are still physically fit to use Manual Chairs compared to full-on Power Chairs, but are loosing upper-body strength and/or energy and could use said "boost". Their negatives are the *weight* that they add to a Manual Chair (which, ironically *"they"* would have to help propel once attached, that they must be recharged and leaving the chair unusable for a period of time each day (unless they can be un-and-then-reattached, but given how important how well they are attached to tires to work properly, I doubt that's workable) and that they could be termed a "Cyclical Device" i.e. it's there to help, but at the same time reduces the exercise to get by pushing your chair, and over time may lead to the need of a full-on Power Chair in the future. ...and as for the Guy "In a Band" with the Black & Chrome Colours chair, take it from *this* "Guy in a Band" (Bassist) who uses a 2007 Colours Boing! (the previous generation's "Shockblade", of which I'm in the midst of ordering) all that Chrome on his Chair and his Custom Wheels are in *NO WAY* covered by any Insurance Company I can imagine! I have a set of Carbon Fiber "X-Core" wheels which, along with the Suspension Package I have on my chair to reduce lower-body Spasms from my Cerebral Palsy as well as a Tumor Removal from my Back at T7-T9... Even so, the wheels were *not* covered by Insurance and was an over-1K out-of -pocket expense I had to cover. His chromed wheel "shapes" and additional chromed portions of his chair (which would usually be powder-coated black or painted) would easily be *several thousand dollars* worth of bling... and additional weight on the chair. If you're got the money and it's something you truly want, go for it - just realize how much they are and that they *will* scratch up/take on wear 'n tear, and leave a large hole in your Bank Account. 😳

Good luck especially if you are/become anyway Active as the TiLite is the worst chair in my 20 years as a Wheelchair-User Rubbish front wheels and bits falling off the brackets at the back fold and the foot rest split within months has to be drilled out to be replaced in under two years of active use The best Chair I have ever owned and that notwithstanding how heavy it is (Yes it's still going) is the Quickie Revolution as it folds down front and back and sits beside me on the passenger seat(breaks down like a child's Buggy) Sadly SunRise has discontinued it and not planning anything like it in a lighter weight. The Brakes on the TiLite have given up for the second time last week. Definitely the Worst Wheelchair I have had the misfortune to own. Warmly Aindre

+Aindre Reece-Sheerin I have been trying to convince Sunrise Medical to make a 21st Century version of the Quickie Revolution. Two major issues with that chair were its Weight and trapped fingers in the folding. There is a new Chair made and wholly designed by a Wheelchair_User in the UK called a Carbon Black but cost more than a medium sized saloon car so I guess around 20plus thousand dollars. They are currently looking for ambassadors. I am a Professional Performer and International Singing teacher and thought they were offering me a Chair so that I would be 'Showcasing' it every where I would go. Sadly that was not the case. I do not have the kind of monies available as I give away everything I earn to Charity and her all Health Care is private. That said, any chair will depend on the level of Mobility you have and can hopefully retain (Depends how young you are too) it will depend also on your budget and the type of vehicle you drive (if you drive) I use a JAY2 Cushion and have been a tester for decades of health Service cushions and the Jay2 is the only one that never and I mean Never gives me Pressure sores. It's insane that people don't have any safety stick on the back of the chair. I am falling down every 500 meter. I always go up hills, over curbs, go too fast. I would hit the back of my head all the time if I didn't have them. How boring is it to go super safe and slow?

Jurji, I'm the exact opposite - as someone who unconsciously Wheelies when bored, "Anti-Tippers" were the bane of my existence and their removal were quite possibly the first mod I made to my crazy-old Quickie GP-V back in the mid-'90s. With the amount of curb and stair dismounts I do, even a set at a very high angle would still likely cause issues in my everyday life, as well as how I stow my chair in my car, and my current chair, a Colours Boing! (the early generation to their current "Shockblade") has the ubiquitous "Grab Bar" on the rear of me back that serves as the same protection by having several inches between my chair flipped back and my head. ...although, equal time to be fair, there would have been several time where they would have saved my back & head when doing wheelies while very inebriated. But I'm nowhere near my 20s anymore, so multiple vodka-related incidents are practically nil. ...okay, *mostly* nil!
