God Valley was def a major momentum shift for Kaido, but as far as I remember, he learned about Joy Boy from King, years later. Kaido heard King gassing up Joy Boy, which reignited his drive for a time. Then it was Wano, and moreso Oden, who really drove Kaido to decide that he couldn't have been Joy Boy. How dirty he ended up having to do Oden is such a trauma to him right to the end, we see it when CP0 intervened in that clash with Luffy. How wretched it made him feel, and how elated he was when Luffy came back where Oden didn't. I love your take on Ace though. Roger even said "It will be my son" to Rayleigh after they left Laugh Tale, Ace was absolutely purpose built to take the reigns of the new era. But since he hated his dad, the whole thing got upended and dropped on Luffy.

Also given remember that Luffy ate Model Nika/Gomu Gomu cause he was hungry. My theory is that Roger found the Gomu Gomu on Laugh Tale and Shanks either A: overheard Roger telling Rayleigh that the next Joyboy will be his son, so when Roger died he took it upon himself to pass down the Straw Hat and give it to the next Joyboy along with the Gomu Gomu fruit or B: Roger tells Shanks what the Gomu Gomu fruit is and tasked him to pass down his strawhat and the fruit to his son, who he stated would become Joyboy and when he landed on Dawn Island he planned to give it to Ace, Roger's son. And we know what happened there...

I think in a world where Joy Boy is allowed to exist, Noland would have absolutely become Joy Boy. Basically its like saying Noland failed to become Pirate King, before Roger there was no pirate king, but after Roger died, its just a race to fulfill the requirements and earn the title to be the new pirate king. Since Luffy is the next pirate king, and the next Joy Boy, once he is gone there can be another of each. There was a literal lockout of some kind preventing the return until present day, but once the return happens, Joy Boy comes back and fulfills the Will of D , then eventually dies, the world becomes a place where a new joy boy can just happen whenever someone meets the requirements. Thats my theory on it anyway. So to get back to Noland if he was in a world that didnt actively have a joy boy, but was after luffy became the true return of joyboy, then Noland would have absolutely succeded, assuming he accepts the role himself, Just like he could have been pirate king if he chose to in an era after roger or luffy. The guy was a certifiable monster and an amazingly kind soul, who brought joy and a new dawn to everywhere he went, but the way was shut, he didnt fail to open it, he had the keys but the lock was iced over and rusted for another 400 years. Its open and accessible as of now. Anyway tl;dr it's unfair to say Noland failed since it is absolutely impossible for anyone not alive present day(exactly 20 years after roger) to become Joy Boy, even if they meet all the requirements flawlessly.

@Srslyhammerd I believe that he carried joyboys will but just didn't meet the requirements and was born at the wrong place at the wrong time(parvision has a great video on it). There's also the theory that Noland last voyage to get the king to see the city of gold was sabotaged (which I also believe) by the world government.

I can't see Kid or Katakuri being failed joyboys... They're never even in the same breath as any of the other characters mentioned, do we even know Kid has conquerors? Also kid doesn't show much qualities of joyboy to me and Katakuri main thing is merely protecting family nothing else... Katakuri has no drive to become something big, he does everything for the sake of his family that's it

you are wrong they both are like Luffy you simply lack quite a lot of information. Kid has Conquerors and the same dream as Luffy he simply grew up on an island not part of the world government so his life was clearly bad and his Love was killed by assassins. and his aspects why he never will be Joyboy is because like Roger he is too aggressive and like Ace he is way too pride when Luffy got one shot by Kaido he trained to become stronger and advance his Haki while Kid just thinks "I need to hit Harder" not willing to learn Haki or let anyone teach him Haki. Katakuri quite literally was shown as a better version of Luffy, his Devil Fruit and Haki both were better and personalities wise they were the same as children however what makes him fail is that he was hiding his true character to protect his family Luffy would never do that he would find a way to protect his friends while being himself. both are characters clearly to be a Luffy gone wrong and if you cant see it look harder.@@Warlord-dc5un

I love Ace as a character so damn much man. This is really the first time watching an anime where i actually thought to myself and believed that he could've been the protagonist. Most of the time when i hear people say that this character would be a better main character than the actual protagonist, i don't really get it at all. All Might, Bakugo or Todoroki, being a better protagonist than Deku, Gojo or Fushiguro being a better protagonist than Yuji, i never agreed with any of those claims. But then i watched One Piece, and for the first time i actually belived that if things were a little different, Ace could've just as good of a protagonist as Luffy. I also agree with the part that he is the most tragic example in One Piece. He had it all, the potential, the tragic backstory, the will and determination, unwavering loyalty to his loved ones, it's just that his one flaw, his own resentment of his father brings everything crashing down. Saddest part is that they actually have a lot of things in common and could've gotten along great if they ever got a chance

a better description, because they didn't necessarily failed. They were a candidate to BECOME joy boy but due to circumstances, couldn't become joyboy. Kaido grew up in a war torn island and he developed intense hate for what he had seen even tho he had good intentions, he grew up with the mindset that war is over everything. Roger was just too early as stated many times, Shanks isn't a candidate to me simply because of his lineage even if he had good intentions. Now, Ace was an almost perfect choice but again, he grew up in a world where people HATED roger since that's how the world government painted him as which caused him to grow up in the worse environment possible. Ace is luffy if everything went wrong.

Non of them are Joyboy, Joyboy specifically has the drums of liberation as said by Zinisha who was friends and likely a companion to the original Joyboy and nobody you listed has the Nika fruit which is what causes the drums to sound off in the first place. They said Joyboy made everyone smile which means he had the Nika fruit awakened nobody has ever done that but Luffy. Roger never ate it, Shanks didn't either therefore non of them are Joyboy it's not like Indra and Ashura where the reincarnation automatically take place the second the previous descendants die Joyboy is strictly based on who eats the Nika fruit and nobody outside of Luffy has eaten it that we know of. For all we know Luffy is the original JoyBoy from the Void Century and was just brought to the future by the original Time fruit wielder. You can't fail at something you never tried to begin with now had they eaten the fruit and died then they would've been failed Joyboy's but they are just the carriers of Joyboy's will aka the Nika Fruit
