It’s the classic predator bias. Iguanodon had an almost 200 year head start, so of course it’s going to have a more interesting history.

Funny thing with the Fossil Fighters Iguanodon (It is called Igua, but every Vivasaur - collectable creature - in the game has a short hand version of their actual genus) is that it, alongside Oranosaurus, are essentially boxers. There entire move sets are literally them slapping and punching the opponent silly.

i'm quite happy to see somebody who also loves Disneys Dinosaur because that movie was my favorite Disneymovie ever. the Iguanodons in that movie are realy cool. Aladar is a great main character and Bruton had like a Redemption arch in the cave (i read a comment here a minute ago that Kron and Bruton are actually other species of dinosaur but still an Iguanodontid). Iguanodon is one of the most fascinating dinosaurs out there for the reason that we know lots about the dinosaur just like T.rex but i feel like it doesnt get a lot of praise. my favorite dinosaur is Stegosaurus though. Iguanodon apeared a lot in Land Before Time in the Third movie yes. ps : you deserve way more subscribers. Cant wait for the 10k subs for Tyrannosaurus rex.

I'm so glad you talked about Ice Age Dawn of The Dinosaurs since I loved that movie since it was the first Ice Age movie I watched. I loved animated movies about prehistoric creatures and after seeing that video about the Good Dinosaur where an artist redesigns Arlo as an Alamosaurus made me think we can do so much more with dinosaurs and other creatures of the past.

You just listed the worst two movies to base dinosaur designs on. Unfortunately these videos are commonly plagued by little children. I wish we can just grow up and take things from a scientific perspective. You really exposed yourself as being an ill informed child. I’m sorry but both of those media you mentioned is meant for children whose brains are literally not entirely formed. Mentioning these forms of media is absolutely okay and fun, but don’t take it so seriously dude. You are genuinely one of those people who take away from actual scientific discovery. Stop talking about kid movies, if you like Dinosaurs then JUST TALK ABOUT THE FUCKING FOSSILS THAT ARE REAL.

Iguanodon obviously has had a colorful history in media, and I personally consider it to be very iconic because of that. My favorite depictions of the animal are, much like Ceratosaurus, the Prehistoric Kingdom and Jurassic World Evolution designs. The Crystal Palace statues are also iconic, and I think it’d serve as cool inspiration for a monster design. And I also have a soft spot for the old thumbs up look it had. I might get hate for this, but the Disney’s Dinosaur design is cursed imo.

They tried to explain Utahraptor’s presence in England by saying the for a portion of the Early Cretaceous, when Utahraptor was alive, Laurasia hadn’t fully split apart yet and North America and Europe were still connected through Greenland and Scandinavia. Have never heard of “Dinosaurs On Earth: Then And Now”, but when I saw the images of the Iguanodon, I recognized that footage IMMEDIATELY. Especially considering since we have a European species of Allosaurus that (from what I know anyway) is still valid, having a giant Dromaeosaur like Utahraptor in Europe shouldn't be considered out of the question. There was probably a land bridge (that we currently don't have evidence of but that could change in the future) in the Cretaceous that could've had Utahraptor or a very close relative making the trip from North America to one of the larger islands in the European archipelago.

To help clarify Disney's Dinosaur, the creators originally wanted it to be like a documentary, with dinosaurs showing their emotions with facial expressions (namely eyes and eyebrows). So many changes were made to this film courtesy of The Mouse, but one obvious change was adding voices and lips. The Iguanodons were supposed to be beaked and not speak, but Disney being Disney said it wouldn't be fun enough for kids and that they need to talk and have lips. If anything, it could have been like Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron (animals don't talk, but might have inner dialogue or narration) but with fairly accurate dinosaurs. It's a big reason why at the start the dinosaurs do not speak; it was the original idea before The Mouse strode in and told them to "fix" it. By no means a bad film, not by a long shot. I just feel bad that the original vision was trampled so badly.

For any curious these are all of the species of Iguanodon that are still valid, the amount of them that are still Iguanodon, and the ones that are now their own genus: Iguanodon anglicus (English Iguanodon) Iguanodon bernissartensis (Greater Belgian Iguanodon) Iguanodon galvensis (Iberian Iguanodon) Iguanodon albinus (Albisaurus) Iguanodon atherfieldensis (Mantellisaurus) Iguanodon dawsoni (Barillium) Iguanodon exogyrarum (Ponerosteus) Iguanodon fittoni (Hypselospinus) Iguanodon hoggi (Owenodon) Iguanodon lakotaensis (Dakotadon) Iguanodon mantelli (Valdosaurus) Iguanodon orientalis (Altirhinus) Iguanodon phillipsi (Priodontognathus) Iguanodon praecursor (Neosodon) Iguanodon prestwichii (Cumnoria) Iguanodon suessii (Mochlodon) Of these 15 species only three are Iguanodon and of those two are valid, with the English species being non diagnostic enough to be valid. The rest are a wide variety of things. With 1 Sauropod (Neosodon), 1 Ankylosaur (Priodontognathus), Ponerosteus and Albisaurus are too fragmentary to be valid, but they both get Wikipedia pages so they get to be here, 1 very basal Iguanodont (Valdosaurus), 1 Rhabdodontid (Mochlodon), and 7 different Iguanodonts (Mantellisaurus, Barillium, Hypselospinus, Owenodon, Dakotadon, Altirhinus, and Cumnoria). Now this may seem like a lot, and it is. But this is nothing on the 33 different species that were all under the Megalosaurus genus.

The reason why WWD has Utahraptor in Europe is because there was an unnamed fossil that was found in Europe that had similarities to Utahraptor. After filming of the series, the fossil was named Eotyrannus and it is one of the last tyrannosaurids in Europe and related to the slightly earlier Juratyrant. The reason why tyrannosaurids disappeared from Europe at the beginning of the Cretaceous period is not known. But, according to the making documentary, since the dino didn't have a name, the show's creators took the liberty of using Utahraptor.

Weren’t the continents still like attached or at least not yet fully split back then? So Utah wasn’t where it is now and Europe wasn’t where it was now? Maybe they were closer and there was land connecting the two?

The continents in the Early Cretaceous were already mostly broken up. There was a significant amount of space between Europe and the United States. Not to mention, the region Utahraptor inhabited was quite far from the coast that was closest to Europe. And it’s unlikely they would have spread that far.

9:12 Hmm… I wonder? 9:19, 9:29-9:24 & 9:41 Aha! I knew there was something about those clips seen on that Really Wild Animals episode. They were stock footage from a different National Geographic Dinosaur Documentary. Not only was there the Iguanodon & the Utahraptors, but also an Eoraptor, a Dilophosaurus, a herd of Brachiosaurus, a Triceratops & of course the Tyrannosaurus Rex. I think Dinosaurs On Earth Then… & Now! is as interesting as the 1992 PBS Documentary The Dinosaur! a few years before it. But I think there’s just 1 little problem. I think both The Dinosaur! & Dinosaurs On Earth Then… & Now! have yet to be released on DVD In America after all these years. That goes for some of the other National Geographic Documentaries on Modern & Prehistoric Animals. Especially PBS such as one of those NATURE Programs. 18:38 Speaking of which, I heard that this model was reused in Deadly Dinosaurs with Steve Backshall. Only Volume 1 came out & Volume 2 didn’t yet. They should’ve released Deadly Dinosaurs with Steve Backshall as a 2 Disc DVD set in America like the UK DVD release.
