DISCLAIMER: I do not include EVERY depiction to ever exist. There are multiple different reasons as to why that this. A huge reason for this specific video, is that most are simply scaled up Great Whites. I don’t have too much to say for something like that. So yes, a fair amount are not included. Also: Looks like I mistakenly removed the depiction that appears in Primal. So, here are my thoughts: it looks pretty good. The Megalodon is a fitting creature for the show.

Mean they're pretty good in Ark and there is an Alpha version of the Megalodon that is a bit too stocky too rounded but. Length wise is pretty spot on, plus I'd imagine seeing as they predominantly hunted whales their heads would be more like Bull or Tiger Sharks than a Great Whites, teeth are an almost match to Great Whites but overall I'd say they're probably more like Tigers. Why I like the design in Ark as it's not too pointed at the tip of the head and JWE2 design is very good in my opinion

Megalodon is a somewhat small realistic size, but it should have been bigger because it deserved better than just being the great white of the ark. I absolutely LOVE the depiction from JWE2, it ISN'T an oversized great white and DOESN'T look anything like one. It reminds me more of a tiger shark mixed with a mako shark, which is terrifying. You can also tell from the slender body that it is based on the newer reconstruction, which makes it look similar to a mako shark in slenderness. JWE design gets a perfect 10/10 from me. The Meg technically isn’t the same Meg species millions of years ago, but the evolved descendant. More so explicit in the books w/ them being white and glowing. As for the famous imagery of it eating a T. Rex in context of the book, it was merely a short film made by Jonas (who became a paleo/biology teacher at a college I think) to demonstrate the ferocity of the animal.

That argument of we don't everything about the ocean to justify the nonsense that Megalodons aren't extinct gets old. They're often cited as living in the Mariana Trench for some reason. In the hypothetical scenario where Megalodon still existed in modern times, it would not be the same species as the extinct one because despite the outward appearance not changing much it would be different genetically because of how much time has passed. It's the same thing as actual living fossils. And it would certainly not be the same species both genetically and appearance if it lived in the trench because it would have evolved to adapt to the hostile environment in the trench. It probably be similar to a sleeper shark. Slow moving to conserve energy even if it remained a large shark (deep sea giantism does have the advantage on dealing with the cold pretty well) since food is scarce. Feeding habits would be different. It's a shame that popular media has damaged this animal and caused misinformation about it being still alive to spread. I gotta say that Jurassic World Evolution one is a really neat design and I like how it doesn't look like a scaled up Great White. The whale shark like spots is an interesting design choice for it.

I like Jurassic World Evolution's rendition, not gonna lie, because it does include a lot of recent ideas of what the Megalodon could have looked like. It's also believed they would have had larger pectoral fins than Great Whites (which is included), and you already mentioned the "long and thin" idea. I believe we also think it would've had a flatter jaw and shorter nose than a Great White. Also, this is just an idea, but if the Megalodon is a tropical fish that hung out I'm warmer waters, I feel like it's counter-shading would be more suitable for tropical waters, so even it's coloration would be unlike that of a Great White.

Dude, this was awesome. I dig your style and am now subscribed. I'm a huge paleontology nerd, lifelong lover of all things sharky and fossil collector who specializes in aquatic predators of all kinds, so this was right up my alley. Sharks, crocodylomorphs, ancient marine reptiles and the non-avian dinosaurs are all my jam. I agree the new longer model for O. megalodon is interesting, especially as it appears, if this hypothesis is correct, that those long bois could have attained a max size of around 25 m/80 ft, which is just willd. It's also been hypothesized that they had a proportionately blunter snout and longer fins (especially pectoral but also primary dorsal and caudal, with a caudal keel) than the Laminids. Something that's often missed is while their teeth were massive (largest in my collection is about 6.5" diagonal length, which is how they're measured), their bodies were so much larger that they probably looked less toothy than say a great white or sand tiger. They also had what is very likely the strongest bite force of any animal at up to 182,200 N. Anyway, have a great one!

0:21 It is also the largest fish to ever existed. 7:58 CORRECTION: Birds are dinosaurs & megalodon lived alongside with birds which that means that megalodon actually did live along with dinosaurs but not the non-avian dinosaurs.

I know. I was mainly speaking on how it didn’t live in the Mesozoic, and so, did not live with Non-avian dinosaurs. I believe we all know where I was coming from.

Yep. I’d say, that considering we know sharks are the largest fish, that would go without saying.

i love when they take the concept of megalodon and just go crazy with in games. While monster hunter doesn't have a megalodon, it has a beeg shark frog (yes frog) called Zamtrios 😊

Honestly i think that the megalodons in the meg movies are bigger than they actually were. But idk if they were that big.Mostly because it looks 10 times alrger than the t rex.And you should have done hungry shark evolution and world

I’d love it if we found a complete fossil of a Megalodon so we could finally know what shape it actually had. Maybe it looked nothing like any shark we know of. Cooler yet if we actually found a living one Maybe, I hope, I could swim with one when I’m dead

Since you don't really know much about Ark Survival Evolved, a fun video idea could be to react and analyze all the creatures from it. Since a lot of them are creatures you'd probably never make an individual video about, like Basilosaurus.

Recent findings indicated the real Carcharocles/Otodus megalodon bore little resemblance to the modern great white (Carcharodon carcharias), aside from being sharks. The ones we see in movies would best be described as Carcharodon megalodon, a fictional species.

I remember seeing the trailer for The Meg 2 and immediately saying how dinosaurs had gone extinct by the time the Megalodon was around. nevertheless, it was a good movie

What I hate is the people who think it looked like a whale shark, sand tiger shark, basking shark, or like that hypothetical reconstruction someone made, the one that shows it as really fat and having a super squashed face. For one, the reason filter feeding sharks look like that is because they don’t chase food, they just need to open and inhale, they just swim collecting food as they go, which is why their stocky build works for them, they don’t need to expend energy and don’t need to be fast.Megalodon on the other hand was hunting whales, and anything else it could eat, and we we know these whales were smaller and faster then modern whales, therefore it would need to be slim and streamlined to catch prey just like modern sharks such as mako or great whites. We know it hunted whales because we have found vertebrates with teeth lodged inside and evidence of biting into them. Second, the teeth are completely the wrong ones for a shark to be as bulky like they say it might have been, those teeth are same as teeth like that of Otodus and the modern great white, built for top predators to bite and shear through prey, whereas basking or whale sharks have very small teeth that are designed for filter feeding. It’s also out of place for a sand tiger like shark, as those are more lethargic animals who feed on fish and certainly not on whales. Third, the megalodon would need to have a head that would allow it to take huge incapacitating bites out of its prey, a squashed head like the artwork shows would be extremely impractical as it would not be able to take bites out of prey easily with the nose getting in the way and mouth limited in size. Fourth, it was a mackerel shark, related to Mako sharks amongst others, and it’s ancestors were all classic predatory sharks in appearance, there is no reason it would look so different from all its brethren when it had the same diet. Fifth, it needed to eat a lot, and a chubby body would get in the way of this, slowing it down and making it harder to catch prey, we look at modern top predator sharks and even the great white is still pretty streamlined and slim, there is no reason why it would have any benefit to be so fat.

I know it’s far from how it actually works in nature but seeing as we largely believe that the Megalodon was a warm coast critter, I like to imagine it was perhaps fairly light in terms of color, probably a bit of a inverse whale shark lol
