The problem with the firebug is that no one has heard of them or sails them, while the Opti class is the largest one design class in the world that produces 90% of later Olympic medal winners.

The problem with the Opti design is the absense of bouyancy tanks. Even when the air bladders are fully inflated, they float too low in the water to confidently recover from a capsize and continue racing, at least that is the experience at my club. To start young people into racing, we advance them to Firebugs. These have bouyancy tanks so they recover from a capsize almost dry and they set 50% more sail area.

I traveled the word cause I sail, and I know lot of people ( lots more than you think), and am sure that people who sail have a much better life than people who don't And seriously, people who don't sail can have concussions also And I've sailed all my life and the worst thing I had was a cut in my toe

Amateur Tech yes, but in the las world championship, a country tried to change that for the day you make 16 years old. They didn't change that, but in the future they can change. The sail you use is not about you age, but about your weight
