The weird thing about Sonic Heroes is that the Gamecube version uses the final build of the game and all other subsequent release is a weird beta build thats not as optimized Also the weird singing in the Sonic Heroes intro animatic was them vocalizing the song as the lyrics wernt finalized yet

1 advantage I find with the PC ports of these games is the amount of customization you can do with the OSTs. Most notably Sonic CD, you can replace some of the US Tracks with the JP Tracks while still having some of the US tracks for certain stages. Basically if there’s some songs you like from the US ost but still many songs from the JP ost (for example I want JP wacky workbench music but still want US Stardust speedway music) then you have your own customized Soundtrack containing songs from both the OSTs (something you can’t do in the Whitehead release as you can only change the entire OST and not bits of it) Also the PC port of Sonic R is pretty much a modding playground with different skins you can change on the characters or stages in addition to changing the music. Of course there’s also mods that fix some of the issues the game has and improves the experience overall

I’ve still no idea why both Sonic Adventure 2 Battle and Shadow The Hedgehog weren’t ported over to PC in a physical format. You think they’d would be a piece of cake to bring over, especially when Adventure DX and Heroes were already on there.

The more time I spend with so called "insane purists", the more I understand the appeal. Very good video which took me back to my childhood. This is how I experienced a lot of Sonic in the late 90's. But to say these versions aren't worth going back to doesn't sit easy with me. I think it's completely worth going back to these versions if you wanna relive those memories

Windows versions since Vista haven't changed much internally. They mostly fix bugs, add new features and maybe change some things. It's the reason why you can still use 7 and 8.1 on modern hardware, as most drivers are similar enough to the 10 drivers(tho im dumb so I could be wrong too)

21:39 That Sonic Heroes puzzle game demo is actually a reskin of Columns. It's one of SEGA's two notable games of that type, along with Puyo Puyo(though Columns is definitely the simpler of the two).

Something that missing is; Sonic Riders on PC didn't gave you an option to map the controls of 3/4 players, you can only play 2 players even when the game it self clearly had that feature. It's very odd choice or maybe back in the day, pc doesn't have that much port to plug a gamepad 🤷. But I remember a lot of games before 2006 able to play up to 4 players, It really is just shitty port 😆

Bruh. You had me messed up. When talking about the Mega Collection, at the exact moment Sonic got hit and lost his rings my phone vibrated. Very shortly followed by my 15% battery warning. My guess is that they made too many and needed a way to unload them hahaha i bought a couple! And I'll never forget the "wtf" moment when it played the original sonic 3 music

Man, this video is just amazing. I just found out about your channel, and I may be already hooked. Your editing style is slick, your talking is smooth and the camera shots for when you are recording the monitor screen... Just so good! The only complaint I have, and this is small, is that Riders does not have a personal timestamp, it's mixed in with the Mega Collection Plus timestamp. But I don't really care about that, I still adore this video with all my heart. It's a dream for 8 year old me, who barely even manage to speak English. Keep up the good work, friend. 😊 One thing I could add, is that in the final part (talking about Unleashed), as with the Windows images, that's due to Xbox working with a similar engine that Windows computers use, that being DirectX. It's likely they used those 360 ports in modern computers to test out the graphics engine, which probably ran very well at the time compared to their console counterparts.

Johnny Gioeli is most definitely singing like that in the demo intro because the melody and lyrics probably weren’t finalized, so he just scatted a lot of the lyrics so it can be easier to make new lyrics as they please. This is very common for almost every musician’s demos that can be found online.

Video was great, also it was a massive nostalgia trip for me cause back in the day I didn't have any consoles to play sonic games on and my first introduction to the series was when i was 3 or 4 back in 2007 and i saw the big box version of mega collection plus. I'm not sure if my dad still has that but i do own the PC disc for riders and I used to own the explosive rerelease of sonic r until i gave it to a friend a few years ago. But yeah this gave me a massive nostalgia trip as it was the main way how I played these games. Good stuff.

How is SADX barely compatible with modern Windows? I had the exact same copy of SADX (literally copying the files over) from Windows 7 all the way to the latest version of Windows 10. Never had any issue with it. Also it's a matter of preference. I personally like how SADX looks more than the original DC version. I never liked the cartoony colors. SADX brings more realism to its world. Also it really sucks that the installer for Sonic Riders simply doesn't work on modern Windows. I have the physical release and, nope, the installer just crashes.

After trying Sonic Adventure on a friend's Dreamcast, I ended up getting a collection with Sonic 3 & Knuckles, Sonic R, and a Sega Smashpack with some great Genesis games like Comix Zone and Shining Force. Even ended up with Sonic CD later, which I thought was a PC exclusive because I couldn't comprehend the idea of a CD addon for a console. As a Nintendo kid who only had a Dreamcast for Sega systems growing up, these were actually an amazing way to experience these games before emulation was so widespread.

I always thought in Sonic R that limiting the run speed was an odd choice. The lore excuse is Sonic giving the competitors a fair chance, much like how Superman limits his strength when fighting people. Sure, I guess.....But just give the other racers speed shoes and they can all go super fast! Then that will be the lore reason they all go fast.

Cybershell did a video on sonic adventure DX directors cut (I think...somebody did) It's a shame they butchered the ports so much. The original game was tons of fun. I sunk hundreds of hours into it as a kid. My sister played it even more than I did. Me and my sister had a ton of consoles from 90s era that were originally my dad's, but he no longer wanted to play on them. Dreamcast was a favourite, even if we only played 4 games lol. Every Saturday morning we'd be playing on these consoles all morning. Good times. It's a shame people won't get that same thrill as I did because of poor ports
