I know this video is over a year old but I enjoy watching it again and again! Each time I watch I find myself leaning over attempting to see behind the tree to determine how many more turkeys will be coming to eat! Today is 2023, Feb 14.

A lot of Turkeys where I am, hunted them 4 mornings in a row one year and never could draw the bow with out getting spotted. Came in one morning and I here the wife reading a book out loud, turning pages and there were at least a dozen birds around her listening. They are a strange smart bird in the wild. Love the history. In the US, hearing history from a different view puts things in perspective.

Peter, A Happy and Blessed New Year to you and yours! My Mum's side of the family were early settlers in the Plymouth Colony. William Ripley left England and settled in Hingham, Mass. in 1638. He drew a town lot the same year and was admitted a Freeman in 1642. His eldest son, John is our direct ancestor. Following your adventures has stirred my imagination. I can almost see some of my ancestors doing exactly what you have shown in this KZbin series. On a more contemporary note; in 1949, my great-uncle and his wife purchased a very rustic summer resort in the Colorado, Front Range mountains near Estes Park. The resort consisted of 8 very rustic cabins, a shower house, four outhouses, and a rudimentary cold water system with a pump house and pressure tank drawing water from a year round creek on the property. We spent many Summer weekends and vacations there. My Dad helped Uncle Bob upgrade and modernize the cabins while we older kids cut and split firewood and helped maintain and clean the cabins. Seeing your work brings up some very eidetic memories! I can smell the wood fire, taste the flinty, cold water, and feel the cold wood floors creaking as we woke in the chilly mountain mornings....Makes me feel young again! Thank you!

Peter, I want to let you know how much my wife and myself enjoy your show . We enjoy the things you do but also the history you talk about. I have bought a band saw mill and have plans to build a log cabin. So I am learning more about the process of building with logs. One thing shows are too short. They could be hours long. Always be safe.

Your opening made me LOL...I could see the 'reason' for your generous 'seed feeds' as welcoming potential passers by for 'supper'! What a population you have around you Peter...not many boast of having a real 'turkey' for a neighbor eh? Notice since the last vid, that you have a 'holy fear' of overcooking your food...and THAT'S a good thing. You are open to learning and learn quickly! = All good! The history was again most entertaining...helps us enrich our lives with appreciation for the past when we ponder these things. Thank-you for your time/talents shared. Funny thing how in every group of creatures big or small...one always stands out as a 'ham' = proud turkey boasting it's lovely plumage. Health and blessed New Year!

Hey Peter, Happy New Year to you and yours. Your comment about not being able to find a turkey during Turkey Hunting Season, reminded me of the Whitetail Deer here in Indiana! During hunting season, they can routinely avoid bullets traveling at supersonic speed... yet... for the rest of the year, they cannot get out of the way of a vehicle going 40 miles an hour down a country road!

Your reflector oven is something I never even knew about that actually is quite a clever device that chicken turned out looking pretty good guessing by the amount of steam coming off from it the temperature in your cabin I'm guessing is around 55 to 65 and you're right about one thing your wild turkeys felt safe because you were eating chicken I didn't see any big beards on any of your turkeys mostly just Jake's and hens but they also would be good on your rotisserie and I would also like to comment on the fact that your mind never leaves your cooking that's what makes a good cook you can talk all you want to anybody while you're cooking but a good cook never takes his mind completely off the cooking 🔪 otherwise they end up with a Smokey shack in a ruin dinner thank you so much for your video happy holidays and good eating

Love that reflector oven! I've been admiring them since I first saw one almost 20 years ago - I think it was in the Townsend catalog but might have been one of the tinsmiths that went to the Fort Ticonderoga Grand Encampment of the French & Indian War. Sadly, those events are no more. I loved the Native dances and the bonfire, especially as many of them are veterans like myself. Helped to talk through things. Most of my reenacting group was too. Any special tips on using one of those for cooking? Length of time for cooking? Clean up? How well did it reflect the heat from the fire around the chicken? Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!
@TheWoodlandEscape2 жыл бұрын
The chicken took just about one hour. I’ve a lot to learn but,it reflects amazingly well and clean up was not too bad. It has a spout in one end to pour the grease out for gravy making.
