The Marine Corps Individual Load Bearing Equipment (I.L.B.E.) Rucksack. Barely in service less than 6 years due to not being compatible with the new Body Armor, was it a good design thst wasnt given a fair shake?

This was my issued pack from 07-11, and as an Infantry Marine, I have walked many, many miles with it: Afghanistan, Africa, Mojave Desert, Virginia, and the Carolinas. It's comfortable under heavy load without armor but once that plate carrier comes on, life sucked. If I had one now, I would remove the majority of MOLLE webbing found on the back and the redundant compression straps on the sides to drop a few pounds of unnecessary weight. I only saw one break and Marine Infantryman can break anything, so you know it's tough as shit.

I love my ILBE packs. Yours is the extremely hard to find Recon ILBE Pack. Little taller and more pals webbing than mine but i never wish i had more pals webbing on mine. Great video.

Thank you! This video helped me make tehdecision to buy my ILBE off of EBAY (NEW, and yes I spent more than I wanted to) and it was well worth it to get one brand new!

You can tell Arc'teryks designed it. Looks like it has a lot in common with my old Bora 80.
@LowPlainsDrifter606 ай бұрын
Yes, it was based on the old Boras, same back system & overall shape. The ILBE though has firmer foam in the hip belt as it was expected to carry far more weight than the Bora hiking packs.

I wanted one. I agree with you. I just couldn't afford the $600 price tag. It is amazing. I going to start saving for one. I have 3 molle ii set up in different configurations. Great video

I've had mine for several years along with the three 3 day assult pack that goes with it, both for about 75 $ each. Really like them both.

Thanks for the data and showing it. It appears a lot like my Eberlestock V90 Battleship pack. It cost but it is built like a battleship. They say it carries over 100L (maybe if in little volume counters) of gear if fully loaded out. More like 75L most of the time. I've carried 60 pound loads and it did fine. It might be more expensive because of the name and testing limits. Take Care and Stay Safe.

I'm I'm big fan of my ILBE. Vastly more comfortable than the MOLLE rucksacks. Great pack for trail hiking.

This thing is NICE! I used the Army MOLLE 2 Rucksack with the plastic frame. That thing was a joke. Anything for me is a step up. Thanks for the comment!

LOVE that pack.. never understood why they replaced it
@AlabamaVeteran3 ай бұрын
I think they would have been better off to replace the body armor amd kept the pack

Because it wasn't designed to wear with body armor. Perfect for civilians tho

people say theres better packs but I love mine. I use it for a bug out bag so its not used all the time but its very comfortable. I got mine several years ago for under 80 bucks, like new. I then got assault pack for a get home bag for the truck really like them both.
@AlabamaVeteran9 ай бұрын
It's extremely comfortable to wear. Even ran a short distance with it. Only serious observation is, the bag itself has some weight to it.

Jist grabbed me one off marketplace for 80$ in great condition. so much more comfortable than my molle2 and way more than my alice.

Very informative. My experience was limited to the medium ALICE and the old canvas field marching pack set up. Wish this was around back then! My gen 2 ILBE is very comfortable. The most comfrotable pack I have ever worn. Much better than my older Gregory Denali (given away)or Osprey Aether. I added some small side pockets and a front pouch for my FAK. I didn't hack anything off. The only thing it needs is more field time. Sub'd.

I thought about getting one of these but my Gregory Palisades at 6.5 lb from the 1990's gets the job done......red & black not camo but that's ok.
@AlabamaVeteran11 ай бұрын
Yeah unfortunately, it comes in any color you want, as long as it's MARPAT. I agree the weight on this is a negative, but I can say, this will be a pack I could see outliving me.
@cb750k197411 ай бұрын
It's probably the best "go to war" pack you could get but for civilian hiking it's too heavy as is my Palisades....heavy and outdated..@@AlabamaVeteran

I think I found it on Amazon. Also, check (believe it or not) Wal-Mart website. You won't believe the items you can order online from them.

The actual back length isn't adjustable (one size fits all) but you can with a bit of fiddling with the placement of the shoulder straps & the hip belt, gain an inch or two, so you may be able to make the fit a little shorter by pushing down the shoulder straps as much as possible (they're attached with velcro behind the moulded back panel ) but it will be minimal & if you really have a short back, then prehaps this pack isn't for you. It's a heavy ruck too, over 8lbs/3.7 kilos empty, which also needs to be taken into account if someone is on the smaller side.

@lowplainsdrifer60 Thanks for chiming in. Appreciate the input. I've been out of state for classes so haven't had a chance to mess with it more than just a glance.
