It's true Seattle is more of a baseball town than it gets credit for. Over the years I've seen the Kingdome and Safeco/T-Mobile packed with fans, most of the time knowing that it was yet another losing season. The fans show up, but ownership never steps up. It is frustrating for the players and the fans alike.

That is ULTIMATELY the problem...the fans come out and help this team pull a profit regardless of putting out a winning product. Julio is a marketer's dream and is going to pack the seats.

Seattle gets generally great attendances in all of the major sports. They love it up there in the PNW. Thankfully for those supporters both the Sounders & the Kraken have done a better job of being competitive early than the long suffering Mariners fans. Even the Seahawks (in an era before free agency in the NFL) set records for becoming competitive for an expansion team & were a lot of fun in the 80s & (after a 90s lull) had & acheived the highest of asperations. Mariners fans have every right to be seething atm.

I'm a Phillies fan, but I have a big soft spot for the Mariners from living in the PNW. Their fans are super cool and really passionate about the team, they deserve so much better. The "you should be happy with winning 54% of games" thing is bullshit, if you feel that way you should own a team at all. Like does nobody in the orginzation understand how much more money they'd make if the Mariners got a deep post season run, or even a World Series win? Kinda hoping this causes such a PR nightmare that real changes do happen.

I refer to Jerry as Jerry "Next Year" Dipoto because, at the end of the season, he always says "Next Year". The problem is that Seattle fans, for some reason are so enamored by this guy. He does not deliver. He does not believe in free agency unless he is a "bargain" player. What I mean by bargain player is one that Jerry hopes will return to a past performance. An example: When he picked up Kolten Wong he was hoping he would return to his form from two years past. Jerry does not go for bonafide players. I do not know if this is because he isn't given the money or he is restricted to certain players from higher up. However, for the past two years, he said he had money to use at the trade deadline and yet doesn't use it. I am 64 years old, I have been waiting since 1977, and I am thinking at this point I will die from old age before we see a World Series. I wish that everybody from Scott Servais on up would go away. Based on what Jerry said he contradicted what he said earlier in the year about being competitive for Shohei Ohtani. Even if we did get Ohtani that will tie up money for years to come. No, I don't believe that Cal Raleigh decided on his own to apologize. He was told to apologize. If I was a player for Seattle I wouldn't want to stay with this team. If Julio Rodriquez has any opt-outs he should use them to get a ring or two, he won't get it with Seattle. These are just two players the Mariners choked. I am sure that George Kirby was also forced to apologize, another player was choked by the team. Why do I say they were choked. Simple, I served in the Military and fought for people's rights and if they were forced to apologize their right to freedom of speech was stripped from them. I will no longer support the Mariners until they can show they can deliver for the fans and care about the fans.

I'm over the Geno project at 3rd. I'm over the Ty France project, he hasn't been the same since he almost got his arm ripped off in San Diego last year AND he's slow af (i'm 36 and fat and I'm pretty sure I can outrun Ty France), I'm over whoever we decide to throw in at 2nd base and I'm most certainly over the Dipoto/Servais bromance. We've been an 85-90 win team the past 3 seasons. We hit our ceiling. It's time for change. I wish Paul Allen was still alive (RIP) and had a love for baseball and owned the Mariners. That is one owner that EVERY team and fan should want. Not afraid to spend money and put his faith in management to put together winning teams in whatever sport it was. 1. If this was a publicly traded company (and I have been a senior executive/SVP in several Fortune 100 companies in my former business career) Dipoto's employment would have been terminated before he returned to his office. Dipoto MUST BE TERMINATED IMMEDIATELY. Why? 2. A senior executive with a public facing role in an organization MUST be held to a higher standard. Dipoto has caused IRREPARABLE HARM to the franchise, the game, the current players, prospective players (including potential international acquisitions), the fans - the entire stakeholder community. This is not a situation that can be adequately addressed by apologies, explanations, time, or any similar sort of nuance. This situation is unequivocally not a "snafu" that can be addressed by some PR stunt, or an after the fact explanation or apology. Mariners ownership - that publicly states is an organization that cherishes accountability and integrity must now ACT upon what these standards require: "You're done. Thanks for assembling a core of players for us." 3. Dipoto has caused irreparable harm that will endure - at least for a decade. The harm includes the integrity of the franchise, trust from the fan base, confidence in the executive management currently guiding the team, and the MLB universe. He embarrassed and shamed his employer, the fans, the players etc.. Trust, confidence, hope and integrity are fragile. They take years to establish and moments to destroy. Jerry Dipoto destroyed just that...right when the franchise requires just that. 4. We've heard Jerry's mantra now for 8 years. He has had a number of snafus regarding "human relations" in his tenure. The price to pay is termination...immediate termination. You simply cannot allow somebody in your executive team to behave the way he has. "Finish the job?" NO WAY do we trust Jerry (and Justin) to do that. His failures the last 2 years to add essential talent at the trade deadline, are, at his own admission, "my fault." Well, after his public presser this week, as Chuck said, "there will be a price to pay." That 'price' is well beyond the boundaries of the outrage he has spawned and received from fans, local, national and international media, etc. He MUST be terminated by 5pm Friday October 6, 2023. 5. It's not just the tradeline miscues. This is the guy who decided we needed Dominic Leone, Flexen, LaStella, Pollock, Wong etc...the list goes on and on. Honestly, he rationalized and "sold" the fan base that his acquisitions were "difference makers" to productively supplement the existing roster. He failed. 6. Imagine how the current players feel about this guy? (It was not swell to begin with). What about prospective talent (in the minors, the draft, free agency, trades and international talent) the franchise desires to pursue in the near term and the future? Imagine what agents are telling their MLB clients today about the Seattle Mariners? Inspiration, motivation and trust have been deeply and irreparably damaged by this guy. You simply cannot "blow this off" and allow those angered by his statements this week to "cool off." NOPE! There are consequences for the depth and breadth of the damage this executive has rained on our team, the fan base, the region, current and prospective players, the current coaching staff, and the game. 7. Jerry is done in Seattle. The "NO CONFIDENCE" vote is in; He's out! Terminating Jerry tomorrow will likely include Hollander and Servais - as these guys seem to roll as a package deal. We're good with that! THIS is the action the Seattle Mariners must now complete. If you desire accountability and integrity as an organization - this is what you MUST DO NOW! Unfortunately (or fortunately) the opportunity has unfolded to take this essential action now. Well, the Wall Street Journal's Scott Patterson wrote a book a decade ago entitled, "THE QUANTS - How a New Breed of Math Whizzes Conquered Wall Street and Nearly Destroyed It." Patterson states his case bluntly: "In other words, there is no single truth in the chaotic world of finance, where panics, manias, and chaotic crowd behavior can overwhelm all expectations of rationality. Models designed on the premise that the market is predictable and rational are doomed to fail. When hundreds of billions of highly leveraged dollars are riding on those models, catastrophe is looming." (P. 294). "To quants, unprecedented is perhaps the dirtiest word in the English language. Their models are by necessity backward-looking, based on decades of data about how markets operate in all kinds of conditions. When something is unprecedented, it falls outside the parameters of the models. In other words, the models don't work anymore." (Pp. 271-272). Jerry and Justin and Servais are representative of the Quants that now inhabit baseball. These guys are not qualified to move this franchise to the stated destination they have touted for 8 VERY LONG years. What Dipoto destroyed in 75 minutes this week (including his pathetic responses to the "softball" questions lobbed by Brock and Salk this morning) cannot be restored by him or with him as part of this franchise. He MUST be replaced. NOW. The "opportunity" is now squarely in front of the ownership group of the Seattle Mariners. John Stanton must also be removed from his current position as the Managing General Partner for the Mariners ownership group - and replaced with somebody who has a spine - versus the coward that Stanton has demonstrated he is. We don't want an interview with John Stanton. We want him gone - along with the other three knuckleheads. Dipoto has firmly disqualified himself, and those associated closely with him (Hollander and Servais and Stanton) from handling the helm of the good ship Mariner any longer. He has irreparably disparaged the current crew and their families, along with those cheering the voyage onward. The integrity of the hull is now legitimately questionable after running into this week's reef. The mutiny he has inspired is not reversible. When sports media in Mexico is laughing at Jerry Dipoto, it's over. Imagine what they are saying in Puerto Rico, Cuba, the Republica de Dominica, Venezuela, Argentina, Columbia, Japan, Europe - Jerry's idiocy is ricocheting around the globe. It's time to re-engineer, reorganize and replace the current executive management of the Seattle Mariners. The only way out of this mess is for the admirals to make the decision that Dipoto et al have earned their opportunity to "walk the plank" - so others who are vastly more experienced and astute may guide this ship off the reef this guy has so irretrievably and precariously positioned this franchise on. Finish the job? That's exactly what the Seattle Mariners ownership group must do by Friday October 6, 2023 by 5:00pm. This is NOT difficult. It is obvious and fundamentally essential what action must be taken at this time. NOW!

It's wild to me to think that a majority of the players that we've either cut or traded are in the playoffs now - Sewald/Ari - Wong/Dodgers - Frazier/Orioles - Santana/Brewers etc. yet when we brought back JK we did the same thing from before his injury when he was on the roster and that's LOSE!!!!! I've been saying this since forever DON'T FIX WHAT AIN'T BROKEN! after the trade deadline we had a huge turnaround and were in line to win our first division title in decades. Look at the Yankees last year before the trade deadline, they were dominating the American League but when they tried to trade for a pitcher they broke what was already the best team in the league and eventually ended up getting swept in the postseason. Rojas' interview when acquired was him saying that he's so thankful and grateful to be on a team that's a contender and now his former club just advanced to the divisional round..... It's crazy to me to notice that we absolutely suck when JK is on the roster, and regardless of how people assume that we're better with him in the lineup, when he scrubbed the Mariners from his social's because he got sent down again is why I don't think he's a team player especially when he broke his foot because of his childish antics when struggling at the plate, he's had a solid two weeks in the bigs and that's it, the only good thing about the trade that involved him was dumping Cano's contract other than that, we've wasted too much time on him to become something he's not. Regardless of all of that, Let's Go Mariners 🔱🔱🔱

As someone who lives in Seattle...the fanbase isn't going insane, they're doing the same thing they do every year...shrugging and moving on to football season. The '69 and '86 championships are two of the most unlikely in sports history and continue to shape the culture surrounding the team. The Yankees however...the fanbase investment and demands are so extreme they're almost comical. Boston and Philly are this way too, although not to that extent. Honestly the scene is set perfectly for an Ohtani signing but ownership will more than likely pass on him or offer a short term high annual average deal. Picture a full time DH for 2024 on a team in dire need of more offense. In 1 calendar year he also becomes a SP (possibly) again maybe with a lighter pitching schedule which also allows them to pivot and trade either of their young arms in Woo or Miller this offseason for even more offensive help. Robbie Ray will be back maybe mid or late 2024 for rotation help. It is a perfect scenario right in the prime of this young team competing for the playoffs year over year. Your move Mariners ownership. Do what needs to be done and spark a fire into this organization that the time is now.

Moreno will throw money at him sure but I think he will be looking for a stable environment where there is a winning culture (or seeds of one) and playoff races are in the cards.

As a Mariner fan since 1982 I knew this season was going to be disappointment from last year. My friend said in 1998 when Randy Johnson was traded that the Mariners will never be a successful franchise due to ownership. I was in denial at the time but looking back the song remains the same. I kind of miss the years pre Nintendo when cheap ass owner George Argyros was the man. Nowadays you can’t really pinpoint one individual for this ownership. I have no confidence with this franchise.

Jerry was notoriously known for making more trades than any other GM. Then 2023 came. After we lost Ray and Marco early, and Wong didn’t pan out he still did nothing other than call up guys that needed another year to develop. Then the ONLY “big move” he made was give up Sewald for a couple of C rated players a day before the deadline. that was really it. We’re tired of watching Houston take the West. Either spend $$,(you have it!) lose your job or lose fans.

Stuck in the mud what in hell is that about. Isn't the goal of every team is to go to the world series? If that is not goal then why play? For crying out I have been a Mariner fan since 1977. I followed the team when it took 16 years to finish the season above .500. I watched Lou, Junior, A Rod , Tino, and The Big Unit come and leave because the ownership wasn't totally committed to winning the AL pennant. Last season I was tickled to death the Mariners played in the playoffs. I was excited that they would add some players so they would make a series run, but no they stood pat and regressed. Wild card Berths are nice, but division titles and AL titles are better. Hell WW 3 could break out anytime soon and we may never see the Mariners in the world series.

MLB Network did a breakdown on the Baltimore Orioles who have 28th payroll in MLB with the best record in the MLB with 101 wins: 28 man roster with how they were acquired: Trades: 6 Waiver/Rule 5: 9 Free Agency: 3 Draft: 10 Mike Elias is architect of this team as well as one of the architects for the Houston Astros. He knows how to create a roster. The 3 free agents on the team are Aaron Hicks, Kyle Gibson and former Mariner Adam Frazier. These are not big name acquisitions. It goes to show that you can build a roster on the cheap and win 101 games in the toughest division in the MLB which is the AL East having the Red Sox and Yankees.

The AL east is not the best division in the AL. The AL west is, by far. Great pitching is what wins games and 3 teams in the west have rotations that can bury other teams at any time of the year. The east doesn't have amazing rotations, they have a few stars or aces in the division. The Orioles and Rays had a great year. The Astros, Rangers, and Mariners had a very good year. There were more high level teams on the west.

I wonder if Jerry knows that when you sign free agents you don't have to dump your farm to get them, off season moves that aren't trades are critical, so when your in a position to go for it like we have been for few years your can pull the trigger at the trade deadline and actually get players to make you better instead Jerry wants to trade for everything all the time so he doesn't have to overpay a bit to get somebody to come here. Well it's time to go spend, who gives a shit about Stanton's money, he is filthy rich and getting richer so Jerry needs to make him pay up and spend some damn money to get legit bats here. We have the pitching if you don't trade them away. Go get free agents, they should have done this last couple years when there was legit bats on the market

The saddest thing about this is that Jerry's process over a long enough timeline probably works - he's just a decade too late to Seattle for anyone to give a shit, so if he doesn't produce results right now, he's going to end up getting fired, and the Mariners will have to start all over again because Julio will be the only one left by the time this is all over. Everyone loses because Jerry spergs out and the fans are too burned out to give a fuck about anything beyond what the M's are doing this year.

Not with ownership complacent with a mediocre product that they can still make a ton of money from desperate fans off of. I’ve seen it with my own two eyes. More than most fans these past couple of years. Mariners fans need to chill out!!! If start trading prospects for old guys we are going to suck for another 10 years. Patients wins in baseball. Farm systems are what wins. And you need to wait for prospects to come up which takes about 4 years. We have been building a lot of great players through our farm system. If we wouldn’t have traded for Castillo we would have Marte who is hitting .330 for reds. Chill out. Wait for prospects to come up. It’s going to take a few years. You want to win??? Have patience. All the teams in the playoffs foundation is off their farm system. And not trading away prospects. And spending money has no correlation to winning. Seawald was 30. Rojas is young.
