one of my all-time favorite Volta songs. I do not have tabs (learned by ear). Gear: Gibson Explorer 2016 (Ebony) Vox Tonelab SE going directly through Garageband Canon 6D (35mm prime lens)

Who comes up with guitar riffs like this. The guitar player from Mars Volta is like a music theory genius.

this is like the whole psychadelic hardcore genre. DGD for example, their earlier stuff is excellent.

It's clear he doesn't follow any logic structure, actually it's obvious

I doubt a lot of theorizing and conscious planning went into this, Omar works off of his intuition more than anything, as far as I can tell. Amazing.

I've been playing that riff at 8:17 a lot over the past few months, but something was just off and I couldn't figure it out what it was. Pulled up your video in hopes of answers, and yup, everything became clear. Your version is more accurate than the tabs I've seen, and it feels so good to finally play this riff correctly! Thank you!

After watching you play it, Omar’s genius pops out even more. What a riff laden song! The true heirs of the Zeppelin spirit... we were truly visited by aliens with this song and cover performance.

I just started learning this 3 days ago. Took me that long to learn that part from 0:18 to 1:15 or so. I've never been more frustrated than I was learning this lol. After learning just that and a few other volta riffs recently, I'm constantly like "fuck you omar, you clever bastard." in the most endearing way of course. I'm appreciating omar so much more now, it's pretty amazing what he's done.

Amputechture features one of Omar's best work in terms of guitar work and composition, despite having Frusciante played almost all the parts. That álbum has so much exquisite parts, definitley Omar as his most creative.

Impressed. Omar guitar parts are insane and i can imagine him having finger cramps after every concert because of all the notes he puts into every song not including live jam sessions they add live mid song.
