If you consider, how much a Savage 120 or VH-4 costs, this amp is a bargain - at least in Europe for 4 channels plus different voicing options. Plus, it rocks like a Marshall, as it is one and not only a - theoretically improved - boutique version, which does not really nail the tone, but is more expensive. At the moment I am happy with decades old, but still awesome sounding JMP-1, but this could become my next amp.

This amp is great (I own one). It has two basic issues: on both od channels with the gain past noon it starts to feedback as hell. The second issue is that both od channel are not so mid focused as expected from a Marshall. For the rest it has an incredible clean channel and an amazing crunch. No need to modify this beast with all the bells and whistles that you read on forums. Keep it as it is or of you want a less raw sound get yourself a Friedman or a Wizard that cost thousands dollars more but don't give you the idea of having spent so much money. The Jvm is great.

I’ve owned the standard JVM410H and a Satch version, both not overly noisy or anything, and I don’t use the noise gates on the Satch.

O don’t have a gate on this one - if I crank the gains on the OD channels it does get a bit noisy. Thank you for watching!

Ya know, that’s a really good question I don’t know. Maybe some variant in the JCM900 line? Maybe the DSL100 on the Red channel? I’ll need to do a little exploring when I get outta the hospital. Thank you for watching!

Are you using a secret noise gate?? I've got the JVM410C and OD 1 Red w/gain at 2 o'clock and well, with a bit of volume thats hissy and on the verge of breaking out into uncontrollable screech. You can get away with those gain levels if a bit further away from the amp....gigging with mine I can't get past 12 o'clock OD1 orange or the amp will just wanna go into too much noise to make it useful and controllable (i'm talking on small stages where you're close to the amp!). Great sound but a noisy beast....totally get why Satriani had to get his modded with a noise gate (internally added). Lately i've been gigging my DSL50 instead for those very reasons (plus its a bit better tonally IMO).
@TheGuitarNerdShowАй бұрын
I have a gate in the chain but it's turned off in this video as I wanted to get the natural response of the amp. There's definitely some hiss in there but I've also edited the audio pretty tightly, that's probably why you're not hearing it. Thank you for watching!
@garrettoboyle53602 ай бұрын
Fantastic video! I'm looking for one now! What, if any, floor or outboard noise gate did you use for this vid?
@TheGuitarNerdShow2 ай бұрын
No gate. There is some amp noise but I tried to edit around that. I do have a gate in my pedal chain but that’s for filtering out noise when I have pedals on. That’s an ISP Decimator. Not sure if that was on or not for this video. Thank you for watching!

Tonally, how would you compare it to the Vintage Modern?

I have had this amp. It sounds plastic to me and overcompressed. It is great though, I would say price/sound/features the best amp I had. However it misses that Plexi/JCM 800 thing. It is about the dynamics :) If I want I can use a compressor. I had the 20 Watt JCM800 after JVM410h and with a distortion pedal and a power soak was the sound I was looking for.

To me the JVM takes a little tweaking, it took me a bit to get to know it. But I’ve found some great sounds for sure. But I dig my Studio Vintage And Studio Classic a lot too! Such great amps. Thank you for watching!

Satriani JCM800 Orange mode is slightly different to the re-issue JCM 2203x in the mids (SLIGHTLY) but it does sounds like a real deal jcm800. THe original JVM is not something you will compare to a real JCM800 if you like the 800 (imho) or a plexi (imho).. they don't both sound raw organic tube ballsy jcm800 or brash plexi ( real plexi can cut your head off so can the satch). The Green mode on satch's amp - i like more than any jtm/plexi i have ever played. I like the gain sweep a lot, and i always gravitate to wanting a little more gain than that mode anyways through the course of playing so it's cool to slide into low gain 800!! clean on JVM is better than clean on Satch's amp.. because for some reason the green clean on Satch's amp is the flattest sounding marshall i have ever heard. It is uninspiring 100% compared to the orignal JVM. I am not sure why he made it that flat sounding, but that had to be intentional. The compression on the OG JVM is cool, it sounds great, but it makes it sound HI-FI and not like the amps it sounds like it's modeling theml.. sounds good.. but isn't a plexi or jcm. The noise is way to much on the OG JVM OD channels you need a noisegate for sure and have to tighten and gate it up pretty good, but it has more compression which makes bad playing sound better, thant he organic open Satch OD channels...(imho). The red mode on Satch's amp sounds like a a modded marshall JCM800 from the 80's, idk which one they modeled it after, but sounds like it's for recording.. (i don't record). it has a sort of higher mid aggressive sound. So that's subjective as to whether somebody records (I don't) or just likes that late 80's early 90's modded 800 thing it's kind of too aggressive in the high mids for me.. (maybe they modded them that way to record, again idk anything about recording amps) If I already owned a jtm/plexi AND jcm800 SURE, i agree no need to buy the Satch amp i agree with a commenter bellow. (even though it's gates are awesome, and the OD is open unlike the OG jVM)... i'd probably been content with a plexi and jcm800. But no single marshall does BOTH. You either have a jtm/plexi or you have an 800 in a single amp. THe satch has BOTH in one box. Again if you are a PURIST for 800 sound.. the re-issue has a slight eq different to the Satch oragne (doesn't sound hifi like the og jvm, doesn't lack balls) just a slight difference i can notice in the mids on the CH2 orange on the satch. No marshall does both.. except the Satriani JVM.... that I know of. The extra red mode, and more gain channels you may not care for anyways. In closing after long review.. THE OG JVM is awesome, it just doesn't sound like a Real Plexi or JCM800. It's a shame Satriani didn't fully take JVM off the name of his amp, as it's a organic ballsy, tube sounding music box... for those who want the rough edges that the plexi and jcm800 have!!! JVM sounds pleasant, but not authentic. Satch sounds absolutely marshall... with that aforementioned SLIGHT mid different in the orange mode (which is an 800). Love all amps mentioned. For modern metal i'd get a mark series, savage mk II or 5150 though!!!! Just my opinion. I know modern metal "tone" isn't coveted or a beautiful sound (it's the riff, and notes you play), but if your going for a modern metal sound (needed for the riffs to shine), skip marshall 100%!!!!!!!!! Marshall does Megadeth and Metallic back through all the hard rock, 80's, 70's and 60's etc.) It does not do forward well haha I love Marshall but djent or death metal is not it's game imho!!!!

Good sounding amp, however.. do they still use pots with cheap flimsy plastic stems soldered directly to the pcb? For that kind of money, bring the build quality up; at least enough that frequently used parts aren’t so fragile.
@TheGuitarNerdShow2 ай бұрын
If you look at the cost of these amps in Europe, which is their intended selling price, they’re actually fairly cheap as amps of this type go. But then that markup to sell over here, it does add slot to make for an expensive amp! Thank you for watching!!!!
@tutatis962 ай бұрын
Theyre 1k for four channels lol, used they go for about 650, i wouldn't expect the best build quality is what you'd expect, the sound are much better
@stevent56842 ай бұрын
@@tutatis96 Sweetwater has them listed at $1900 new, and GC has them at approximately $1400 used. If you’re seeing $650 it’s junk, or stolen. Come to think of it, no matter the price.. it’s cheaply built, with half the gain sweep unusable in the high gain channels. It’s a good sounding, but cheaply made amp which was my point to begin with.

@@stevent5684 sorry 1k£ new, maybe 1.1£ now, but that was the launch price i remember. 650£ is just 33% off, the standard used no guarantee discount. I mean it's normal overseas prices go up, a dual rectifier new is like 4k$ here in europe, i think its around 2.8k$ in the USA

I own the Jvm410 over one decade and love it. One thing: You are handling it wrong. Leave the clean channel clean. And the crunch red in AC DC territory. Gain mostly not over half. After that in od1 and od2 you can play with gain like you want. Od1 orange for 80s rock on max half gain and lead on red. For drop Tuning use channel OD2 in orange or yellow. Again gain on half Max. Cheers.
@TheGuitarNerdShow2 ай бұрын
I wasn’t handling it any way, LOL. Just demonstrating all that the amp does. If I were using it, say, on a gig, I’d most definitely use it as you outlined. But with the gain in OD1 orange just over 9:00. And OD2 I’d probably do the Johan Segeborn Plexi thing I did in this video. It’s just a different feel and sound than the Crunch channel with lower gain. Thank you for watching.
