Watch as the names of Werner, Jean-Pierre and Rodé Groenewald-martyred by the Taliban in Afghanistan in 2014-are unveiled on The Martyrs Memorial located in Bartlesville, Oklahoma.
After the attacks of 9/11, God called Werner and Hannelie Groenewald to share Jesus’ love in Afghanistan. Inside the country, they served and loved the Afghan people-in spite of growing persecution that took the lives of friends and coworkers. Hannelie, a doctor, provided medical care. Werner served in leadership development and humanitarian aid. Their work, and the fact that they served in Jesus’ name, did not go unnoticed by radical Muslims in Afghanistan.
In 2014, a Taliban attack on their home took the lives of Werner and the Groenewalds’ teen-aged son and daughter, Jean-Pierre and Rodé. Because Hannelie was not home at the time of the attack, her life was spared.
Speakers at this special ceremony as the names of Werner, Jean-Pierre and Rodé were unveiled as a part of The Martyrs Memorial include:
Todd Nettleton, host of VOM Radio
Cole Richards, VOM President
John Weaver, Author of “Inside Afghanistan” and friend of the Groenewald family
Petr Jasek, former prisoner for Christ in Sudan
