I don't think I was able to get back in line 3 hours in without starting over after that, since it puts you in the 20 minutes to check out timer. If people are truly that upset, I can give away the product when it arrives and go print some proxies. I think if I edited footage from the stream in, it would have made more sense, but this video was all in one shot.

I am absolutely begging big companies to understand that limited quantities of heavily in-demand items only help scalpers. They don't help consumers, who get mad, have to pay higher prices, or don't buy them at all and just proxy. Limited time runs are sometimes used to signpost to investors "hey our product is really in demand" in order to get/maintain funding. Exactly this! Just do a limited run of Secret Lairs that are already printed (so they ship out faster) and have a print to demand model past that point. Everyone wins with this model!

For example, if they had 1000 Secret Lairs already printed and ready to ship, after those 1000 Secret Lairs sell out, they could swap to a print to demand model. They'll ship out slower, but it means more customers are happy and able to buy the products they want to buy, and it means more money for the company. Hell, they could still point to the statistic of how fast their products sold out by using the "limited run" of 1000 Secret Lairs in this example. "Our first 1000 Secret Lairs sold out in 2 hours!" WotC can have their cake and eat it too. But Hasbro hates good business.

In your scenario everyone before you also did that. A more analogous scenario is that you grab a ticket at the video game section to buy a Switch and bring it to the front. Which while personally I felt that the cards were overpriced and I wasn't going to get them, people who wanted the cards could be sure that they would get them. My issue isn't with secret lairs existing. (Though there are some, namely mechanically unique cards and with a few cards for a large price is extreme) its with the current secret lair system being geared towards scalpers.

You mention print to demand being a challenge, but I think we should actually challenge WotC to solve that problem. Imagine a world where they have a whole catalogue of Secret Lairs you can buy at any time. You could still do fancier limited releases, too. The mention this mainly because there's no shortage of places you can go for pretty high quality proxies these days, and they'll get them to you in a couple days. If random printers can do something like that, I think WotC could hypothetically come up with a higher quality version of that if they really wanted to. This one's kind of a bummer, because it seemed like they were saying, "don't worry, we have enough."

I find it pretty sad on how Wizards is treating secret lairs nowadays. I managed to get the bob ross set just fine before they changed the secret lair systems though. I was highly wanting to grab the Monty Python Sets since I'm a huge fan of the movies. I was in queue about to buy my 5 sets. Then to tell me It was all sold out after a 8 minute wait. I so wish Wizards could go back to their old system which worked just fine and dandy during the bob ross set era so badly to give everyone a chance. like come on This is getting depressing at this stage. for people like me who wants to get sets for certain ips i enjoy like Monty python at a fair price. :(

Thankfully when I logged back in my place in the queue was held and the foil set was still in stock. I was very lucky I worked a late shift today.

Even though I was signed in already, and had been waiting, I was surprised it was still listed as over one hour wait time. That was handled EXTREMELY poorly and Wizards should be ashamed of themselves for that kind of execution. I joined the cue at 9am sharp and it told me that I had to wait over and hour. At some point it told me two hours. 4 1/2 hours later the screen jumped me into my cart (after trying to buy the non-foil Wolverine originally) and my cart said empty. I refreshed and then I went to add it to my cart again since it wasn't in my cart, and the Wolverine Secret Lair said sold out... as well as everything else except for Iron Man and T'Challa. WTF?! And now they're going for almost $200 per Commander card on TCG Player? Ridiculous.....

your situation was so eerily similar to mine. i wanted storm nonfoil and that's it. was there on time when it opened. i managed to get in with only 3 hours and 45m, so slightly faster than you. but my storm purchase was gone cos they were all sold out by then. foil storm still available though? cool! i'd prefer non-foil but hey, i'll pay extra for the foil. in the time it took for me to add it to my cart and then try to check out, the foil on had sold out :/ then, i heard about people skipping the queue. like the fact i was literally minutes late from getting what i wanted makes it so much worse. i don't blame you at all for skipping the queue. i think if i had known about it, i would have done it too.

One thing my play group noticed is the more you would spend the quicker you through the wait. One of my friends got the foil bundle only waited an hour. My other friend got 3 waited 2 hours. I got the iron man one waited 4 hours. One of my friends entered after me, got the foil bundle right away.

I jumped in at exactly the open time and I managed to get the foil bundle after waiting for over 2.5 hours. I thought I was pretty unlucky with all the trouble and wait times, even running into an issue of me being logged but still having been pushed out as a guest during checkout. Seeing all the reactions this afternoon on Reddit and KZbin, I realized I was super lucky to beat enough of the bots to get mine. And yes, I did get my confirmation email, so getting logged out somehow didn’t stop me from checking out. Edit: Dang, I didn’t see there was an exploit. I guess I don’t exactly blame people for trying to get through the line when they’re also competing against bots, but that still sucks for those of us that did it the right way. I’m a marvel collector. Hopped on my phone at 10:55 central. Refreshed at about 11:00 and got in line. Got the error message at the same time as others. Kept my phone on and waited. About an hour and 45 mins wait and got in and got my 1 set of foiled wolverine. If I knew it was gonna be this difficult for everyone I would’ve just bought the whole foil set. I actually went back in an hour later and it showed the foils as low quantity. I missed out on an opportunity I guess.

I purchased 1x Iron Man, Wolverine, and Storm foils completely legitimately having no idea about the cart trick or bypassing the line. Got in exactly at 11AM CST when it opened and it still took three hours. Now that I know the time fluctuating from over an hour to thirty minutes then back to an hour just because people bypassed the line kind of infuriates me. I can only imagine how much worse it was for everyone who did what I did and didn't get anything. I cannot believe this secret lair has been this bad.

Can confirm they patched the cart checkout. Didn't learn of it until it was too late as I was at work and couldn't be constantly browsing social media. Apparantly as another method, the timer to start the drop was tied to your browsers time not the servers, I heard that some scalpers were able to just put their clock an hour back and get in the queue that way as well. I get selling out of something looks good for shareholders, but man thats a lot of lost money on their part with how many people weren't able to buy this product. Please Please Please be a wake up call with this backlash, even if they want to keep FOMO, they could atleast do a 24 hour flash sale for this drops, with as you mentioned a preset number printed and print the rest to order.

This is the one thing I can agree with when it comes to collective outrage. Although I was able to place my order, three hours of waiting is completely unacceptable to purchase a product. This doesn’t mean i will stop playing but I will definitely be limiting my exposure to Wizard and Hasbro for the foreseeable future.

Lots of great proxy printing services available online. I joined the queue 1 second in and was able to check out after about an hour. Guess i was lucky. Experienced all the weirdness you mentioned.

I waited the almost 5 hours into this queue, hoping and praying that I'd be able to get Cap or Wolverine Or BP. I was able to grab the BP, but 4 Hours and 45 minutes to get in, only to be shown that the Secret Lair's I truly wanted were gone and BP and Iron were the only two left really left me disheartened by this. It's predatory on people's time to wait like this to not get anything at all. And the limit of 6k?? What the hell Wizards, this was my first time trying to do a secret lair drop of this size. I was so happy to be there right at queue open, only to see that more than an hour. Thank you Amy, for coming out here and giving more information on this abysmal event. FOMO sucks.

Pay 180 dollars one time and get a high quality printer. Either buy the cardstock and print double sided or high def pictures on regular paper, glue them onto lands and sleeve them. Greatest investment ever.

As someone who finally started playing Magic because of the Jurassic Park UB and SLD last year I can say wirh confidence that if my SLD experience was like what happened today I wouldn't have bothered picking up the game. Even though there still would have been tons of great dinos to play with the first hurdle would have been so off-putting I simply would have saved my money (in retrospect I kind of wish that happened lol). FOMO wont continue to print money and I hope they realize that at some point.

The last Secret Lair I did before this was the Bob Ross Lands, and there was only like a month between the end of the order period and when it arrived. A completely reasonable wait time, especially when there was like a full month to order. I know WOTC could have sold more if they went back to print on demand, its just the crappy Secret Lairs that wont sell like crazy now get to sell out every single time, because fomo and scalpers.

I used to buy all secret lairs, then stopped and haven't actually bought magic in almost a year. Was actually looking forward to buy this when i saw it spoiled. Knew i wouldn't get any when i found out that it was limited print and dropping during the work day. I'm sorry that WOTC decided they wanted to sell this when actual working people couldn't even have a shot at trying to get it. Just unreal and makes me want to continue not buying any magic cards.

Maybe the que skipping was mostly a US problem? I was into the que 1 sec after 18:00 The que lasted around 1.5h (including the "pause"), when I got in all of the products was still available and I was able to get the Heroic Bundle. A few of my mates I was chatting with at the same time did the same and with same result. One mate was a bit slow to get into the que as he was browsing the products for a minute. So he had les product to chose form, but still got the non foil bundle after 2.5h in the que

You got to order something still? I was getting the foil+non foil bundle and by the time I got to checkout and storm foil was sold out (I assume, it only changed the bundle to temporarily unavailable during that time), the only thing I could do was go back and start over at the front of the line and came away with nothing.
