I finally witnessed 1 of my masked grass finches singing so I have 1 confirmed male and 3 unknowns. lol

They are somewhat easy to find in Canada. Mine breed for me. I never used wood shavings, I just use white feathers for the lining. For sexing, males will fight with each other for dominance. Males sing often.

I have given them feathers, I find wood chips to be the deal sealer for me. How many pairs do you have? Very cool!

Two pairs. I also have two youngster on reserve for future breeding. BTW you were right on with your description of the species.

Australians finches are everywhere. Waxbills are hard to find. Noeone breeds them, but they do get imported. I'm working with two species of waxbills, their all nest building, but no success yet.

Mask Finch are best sexed by DNA. Cost in Australia $AUD 10.00 each bird. Simple as taking two feathers from the bird and sending them off.

Yeah, it’s about $20 US here, but I’m not worried about it, I know I have at least 2 pairs and I think I have four.
