when i heard her sing dangerous woman in her first performance i looked straight at my dad and said "that right that, that's jackie evancho. no doubt in my mind." i remember seeing her in charleston back in 2019 and hearing her singing safe and sound and immediately knew.

Good call. Her tone and perfect pitch are hard to miss. Many Jackie Evancho fans thought it could be her (including me) but weren't sure since that 'Dangerous Woman' performance was so much different than anything she'd done before. It took me until her 2nd performance 'Mercy' to be sure. I went back and listened to her 'She Used to Be Mine' song from The Debut album with the same kind of piano intro and that cinched it for me.

The pirates in the first clue package are how Jackie got her start. Before appearing on AGT, she won a National Anthem singing contest for the Pittsburgh Pirates.
@cl97862 жыл бұрын
That's true. She was 9 years old when she sang the anthem for the Pirates' opening game of 2010. More significant however was her audition for David Foster's regional talent contest the same year in which she finished 2nd.....It was David who actually discovered her prior to AGT and within several months after AGT produced her first full-length studio album, "Dream With Me" (certified Gold) and her first PBS Great Performances solo concert, both of which really boosted her toward a multi-million-dollar career by age 12. Jackie meets and sings for David Foster: kzbin.info/www/bejne/iX3Mm6CZi8qFaLM
@cl97862 жыл бұрын
@@jordannash1998 Yes, it's my understanding that David was instrumental in Jackie's having been offered a $5M contract before the AGT finale aired, she being a minor and unable to fulfill the contractual agreements required of the winner, thus finishing as runner-up. In the "Rehearsing" video (link in comment above), Jackie is singing with Canadian Tenor, Cody Carey, who was 19 at the time (born Dec. 1990), having competed on many talent shows. In this performance video of Jackie (link below), we see at the end, Jackie is in conversation with Tenor, Christopher Dallo (also Canadian -no birth date), who had won many awards since 2006, having begun singing at age 12. He later performed on David Foster's "Hit Man Returns", as did Jackie (at age 10), among many of the great artists David had discovered/produced, and also toured with Jackie in the US. Both Codey and Christopher sang duets in concert with Jackie years later, Apparently, either Cody or Christopher had won the competition, but I can't find confirmation. kzbin.info/www/bejne/hHquhnmsZpWCfZI

@@jordannash1998 As you know, that "astounding" turn of events manifested in the release of "O Holy Night" (an EP) within a month, contracted on the Columbia Records/Syco Music label, which sold over 1M copies in the US, also the biggest selling Christmas album in the world that year, making Jackie the youngest Platinum artist in US history at age 10.....the title she holds to this day and will likely hold for a long time. The distinction was previously earned held Michael Jackson at age 13, I believe. David has always credited AGT with discovering her, and that might be rightfully true. But, it was his influence that really opened the door for her to a multi-million-dollar career at age 12 with her "Dream With Me" album and his "Dream With Me in Concert" production for PBS. What an astonishing achievement that was for an 11 year old.
@cl97862 жыл бұрын
@@jordannash1998 That's a fact that her mother actually discovered that she had potential hearing her "singing in the closet", I think she said. I'm not concerned about Jackie's experimentation. She hasn't lost her signature soprano clarity, has developed a richer and deeper lower register and colors it beautifully, exercises greater finesse, and her interpretive skills remain exceptional. I like what she said to Heather Ard in an interview at The Sharon in Florida with regard to her never having learned to read music, "I love that my form of music is almost solely instinctual". That has been and will likely remain one of her greatest assets. She is not limited by trained techniques and having to sing a song "perfectly" as demanded". As Heather said, "she is not hindered by the dots".... but is "genuinely present in the music". I think that has contributed to making her the most versatile young soprano of this century, in my opinion. She has a lot to draw from in determining her path forward. Yes, she is still young, and she is imaginative, full of creative ideas she wants to express. It will be interesting to hear what she has to offer in the next 10 years. I think she's more interested in recording/performing music that is meaningful to her, whatever the genre, than she is in being measured with other singers.
@cl97862 жыл бұрын
@@jordannash1998 What "training" she gets now and then has been with her vocal coach, Joan Lader, in NYC, as you probably know. She discovered while recording The Debut that she could belt, so apparently she decided to learn to do it correctly in a healthy manner. My observation is that her color in the lower register is not as forced now as when she was a child and, in my opinion, more beautiful with a more mellow tone. "The Way We Were" from Two Hearts is an example. I agree that her high notes are less clear when she belts, but when singing soflty that bell-tone quality is still there. She hasn't lost the purity of her soprano register which is evident when she sings softly. Listen to "Once Upon A December" compared with "A Million Dreams" from The Debut for example. I've never felt it was necessary for her to get formal training, precisely because she is an instincual vocalist and has been very comfortable with it. There may come a time, however, when she decides to get some training if she feels it advantageous. I agree that she is a "world class balladeer". I do like her intimate rendition of "Both Sides Now" recorded with her mouth almost touching the mic, thus capturing her breaths in an almost spoken delivery (reminds me of her interpretation of "Have You Ever Been In Love" on Two Hearts). As usual, she makes the song her own in a subtle way with slight variations while respecting the integrity of Joni's intention. Anxious to hear the whole album....should be released in a month or so.

@@Elfos64 She was referring to her performance style and choice of music (singing pop, country and jazz) which was very different from what has been expected of her as a classical crossover singer, "a different side of myself" as a singer/performer that she had always wanted to bring to the stage. What her best friend actually said in the clue package: “She may have the voice of an angel, but it’s her dark side that will slay the competition.”...Meaning a NEVER BEFORE SEEN style as an entertainer.....She would not be performing in her classical style on the show. The low vocal tone and some of the hand gestures and the perfect control of the songs were all from early Jackie, and I was thinking that her clue of being famous at an early age would’ve triggered a judge to guess who she was. The opera clues were the icing on the cake.
@cl97862 жыл бұрын
It was fun matching all the clues to Jackie whom we long-time fans recognized almost immediately by her new pop/Broadway voice (sticking with her mezzo range throughout), her mannerisms, her petite body type, the way she handles the mic and even the way she walks. It was great watching her having such fun letting her "freak flag fly" and demonstrating her versatility for the mainstream audience.
@jordannash19982 жыл бұрын
I don't think she would want to be guessed. TMS is a showcase program, not really a contest. I even wonder if they don't put in for however far they want to go, and whether they want to be guessed right ahead of time. At least on season three, it seemed the judges were reading notebooks which may have had scripted comments, staging instructions and 'bits' to be acted out. I could be wrong, but....
