When it comes to Halloween, the seminal horror classic from John Carpenter, the image that sticks with horror movies fans through the years has always been the Michael Myers mask. Throughout the Halloween movies, from the original Halloween 1978 to the Rob Zombie Halloween 2007 up through the new Halloween 2018, the evolution of Michael Myers has been a slow, scary progression throughout the last 40 years of slasher movies.
Even when they’re not explained in the movie, this killer always seems to find a suspiciously similar mask during every Halloween movie he appears in, from the first Halloween, to the various Halloween sequels, the Halloween remake, and finally the new Halloween reboot. Michael Meyers’ mask is rarely the same between films, but Michael Myers, then and now, in every trailer, clip, and scene we’ve seen of him, is always terrifying no matter how the shape shapes up.

The new mask was sculpted by Justin Mabry, then all of the age and cracks were sculpted by Christopher Nelson. Justin has been sculpting myers replica masks for almost 20 years, which is why it looks so accurate to the original. Christopher did an awesome job on the aging too.

What did you hate about ending of Halloween 2018? I liked how Laurie's plan came into play but even as prepared as she was it was not so easy the trap the Boogeyman. I found it iconic how he looked up at Laurie and her family as the fire closed around him. Then as they left thinking he was done for the camera pans back over to where Michael was standing and he was gone. Then at the end all you hear is his breathing sounds from under the mask. That could mean a sequel or just dramatic effect to end the film. But from what I've heard a sequel is already in the works.

I mean I don't think H20 has aged that well but at least the ending was more satisfying. I think that movie actually did a better job of showing how the events of part one affected her. Hi, Moose here, and this is my big beef with Halloween 2018's ending, so SPOILERS if you haven't seen it yet: SPOILERS The ending left me with a terrible taste in my mouth for the simple reason that it makes Laurie look stupid. This woman spent 40 years obsessed with killing Michael Myers, and her big plan was to lock him in a room, set it on fire and hope for the best? She chose the most easily escapable, non-verifiable method of killing the boogeyman who’s stalked her dreams for decades, and she seems pretty satisfied with it, despite the fact that she’ll never see a body or know for sure that he’s dead. When the bars were closed and she was standing there with a gun pointed at Michael’s head, I was begging her to pull the trigger, but she just runs off, assuming that he’ll probably die. These are not the actions of a woman who has been seeking closure for 40 years. I know they’re planning for a sequel, but she literally chops off Michael’s head with an ax in H20 and they still found a way to bring him back without cheating. I found it an incredibly unsatisfying payoff to everything we learned about Laurie throughout the film. I understand that Laurie doesn't live in a world where slasher movies are a thing, and I might be hyper critical after writing 24 episodes of How to Kill, but I think they could have come up with a more creative and clever solution than just burning him.

There was an alternate ending and it went like this... Laurie and Michael went outside. Laurie had her knife and Michael had his. Laurie slashed Michael's arm and Michael stabbed Laurie's chest. Karen appeared out of the house and shot Michael with a crossbow. He walked off and Laurie said to Karen and Allison to finish him but they ran off. The movie ended with Michael going to Laurie's shooting range, sat under a tree and his breathing got slower and louder. People hated this ending but I think they have no taste. The Halloween 4 masks were quickly and badly converted recast Kirks with blond hair, manufactured for the production by Don Post Studios. The production expected to receive finished Myers masks, and when what they received was the "pink mask" you see in the schoolhouse scene, they scrambled to do the conversions, leading to eyeholes that change size and shape throughout, never looking right, and the failure to remove the pointy Kirk sideburns. Add to this an awful paint job that looks like it's done with Wite-Out, and the inexplicably painted (and misaligned) eyebrows, and you've got a mask that should have looked perfect, but looked anything but. It wasn't until Halloween 5 that they "started from scratch." And thus, Big Neck Myers was born.

Greg Nicotero is the N in KNB. That awful KNB mask came out of their shop. The interim mask was Buechler's recast H6. Nicotero even says so in the clip you used. The "KNB mask" and "Nicotero mask" are the same mask.

The mask from the first two films are my favorite. It haunted me back in the day when I was just a kid. None of the masks have ever quite carried the creepy effectiveness of the original, not even the 2018 mask. On a side note, the thing I utterly detest about Halloween Resurrection ' s mask are the extremely well defined eyebrows. Funny enough, H4's mask looks like Data from Star Trek The Next Generation. And to boot, H4 came out during early season two of The Next Generation!!!!! Perfect time for Myers, desperate to find a Captain Kirk mask, had to settle for Data instead, lol! Anyhow, I enjoyed the new Halloween quite a bit. I liked the ending too, with three generations of Strode women defeating Michael. Well done. Jamie Lee Curtis delivered a great performance!

Hey Now This! You're actually wrong about the Halloween 4 mask. What really happened is that they got the original mask manufacturer to make a whole new batch of masks based on the original Shatner mold. But they royally fucked up and followed the instructions a little too closely and simply just made the William Shatner mask. This meant peach skin, blonde hair, and a panicked crew. What you see in the film is the peach masks made to look like the original at the last second with too much white paint and poorly dyed hair, or in the case of the "white skin mask," an untreated original they didn't have time to paint so they left it as much in shadow as possible. It's all in a doc released on the making of 4, 5 and 6.

Understand that when Carpenter and company refer to the original mask as a "Captain Kirk" mask it is a generic term that flows from the mouth like calling many sodas Coke even when they aren't actually Coke. Yes it was a William Shatner mask but NOT Kirk. They just call it Kirk rather than William Shatner. The William Shatner mask used was actually from a film called The Devil's Reign. There were two similar masks from The Devil's Reign. One was a William Shatner mask and the other was a John Travolta mask. It could've easily been a film that made Michael look like he was Danny from Grease. LoL! There ya go. You learn something every day. I have an unused one of each myself in a display case with a humidifier.

I hated everything Rob Zombie did with Myers. Firstly, making him this bullied fat little dork... What's scary is NOT knowing a person's motive. The mystery adds everything. And what's certainly not scary is if Michael's motives were all due to being bullied and having a mean step-father. That's so unimaginative and lame. Actually, it's an incredibly lazy psychological profile. Because you're picked on, you become an evil sadistic murderer? That really just doesn't make sense. People are born rotten or evil and immoral. They don't become evil because someone or a large group of people pushed them in that direction. Michael being born with this innate hatred for life and his family and being completely amoral -- THAT is frightening! You know such a person couldn't possibly get undone from that psychological make-up because there was no root cause in the first place--the person was born that way. No sophomoric psychiatrist can identify the 'why' reason, because there is no reason. THAT is scary. Rob Zombie, instead, went the cliche way, and he went with the modern social message that being bullied is the absolute worst thing that can happen to a little boy. Please! I'm so tired hearing about so-called 'bullying'. I certainly don't want my cinematic serial killers to be losers and dorks just getting revenge on humanity. That's just pathetic. I want my serial killers doing what they do for their own crazy reasons only they know. Secondly, I hated the artificially weathered appearance to Michael's mask that Rob Zombie gave to it. It looks like it's trying too damn hard to 'look cool'. What made the original mask so great was how simple and generic is was. It really looked like any basic mask you'd see in a five and dime store. And that's precisely where it came from, after all.

Not entirely sure if this is true but I heard a story that part 4's mask was originally manufactured to be nearly identical to the original. However apparently there was a mistake and they came in the wrong color (which could explains the pink with blonde hair Michael) so they re painted it with heavy layers of white which made it loose nearly all the detail. Not entity sure if this is true but it is interesting.
