Midnight L.A Aged like fine wine. Remember when I booted it up for the first time on the Xbox 360 and it was a freaking blast. It's incredible how much fidelity people put into this map and the whole vibe in this game is so spot on that made me feel I was there, even thought I never been in L.A in my life. That's what I call immersion. Exhilarating gameplay, Great car list, Dialogues that does not feel cringe and fantastic soundtrack. Clearly one of the greatest hits from Rockstar Games back then.

Midnight Club is technically Rockstar's first racing game, but it's a little more complicated than that. Angel Studios made Midtown Madness and Midtown Madness 2, among other things. Rockstar partnered with them to create the first Midnight Club game (with the same game engine as Midtown Madness 2). Not long after that, Angel Studios was acquired by Take Two and renamed to Rockstar San Diego.

This game is still my favorite racing game today. Not only was the cockpit view and functional gauges ahead of its time but Rockstar even made working Odometers. It will track all the miles you put on a car, and most even have a trip meter that resets when you go back to the garage. The licensing for real brands from Borla and Zex to Apple, T-Mobile and Pizza Hut made the game feel very immersive. This game needs a remaster or the modding community needs to take it over

Honestly, I love MCLA's California atmosphere and sense of life. There's just something about watching the time of day change and the other racers driving around the city that feels so alive. And also the sense of building up a wicked garage slowly and earning money and reputation to unlock stuff. Having to work to earn cars and upgrades is so much better than Forza Horizon's wheelspins.

@@purwantiallan5089 The highway racing aspect of MCLA is what really makes me scream in agony. They had finally incorporated what the original Mid Night Club was about, which was highway racing, then over the years roll racing on highways became popular in America. Highway racing IS THE META, AND THEY WERE RIGHT THERE AND JUST *LET IT DIE.* AAAAUGH Why they never expanded further on this is baffles me. Just mimic what Genki did with the TXRZ series and make a game based around Roll Racing on a network of highways across 1 to 4 different cities complete with vehicle health bars, tire wear, weather effects, engine oil temp/pressure, coolant temp, boost controllers, rest stopes, test and tuning, and dealerships/performance shops and you got easy money. Though this is Rockstar and Take-Two. They are already rolling in billions from GTA 5. They have nothing driving them from a management perspective to make a new racing game.

MC3 even had chop tops for muscle... It was amazing

@@FurryWrecker911 I agree but then again I remember plenty of these cars being just eye candy since they fell apart even by standing in one place forget about racing. Had few friends and relatives who were into the tuner 'pimpin' scene and their cars no matter official or unnoficial parts all fell apart. I remember that their car very fast looked like an animal was chewing through it inside out then anything show worthy ... Money tossed out the window. They ALL learned from their mistakes and got a proper car and ditched this nonsense pimpin culture. Considering how rarer it became and closed down in many places also speaks for itself. When I built a car it was for racing, all these eye candy cars had their parts falling off soon as you turned on ignition or a stereo, racing?! forget racing XD

It's such a nice game with so many little details (there's an achievement for pulling over and escaping from the cop during the cutscene, when they try to approach your vehicle, which was a fun little thing). This game to me is a mix of emotions. I really like this game because of its good level of customization which actually, this is one of the games that made me start trying to make liveries of my own, sure they were eyesores back then but to have the creative freedom to do so especially when by the end, you basically are given full freedom over what car you buy and customize. The races were exciting, the dialogue during races are funny and just how much detail this game has. Like cops paying attention to traffic violations, or how racers will not race you to the start when cops are nearby, cruise control to help you stay under the speed limit when cops are nearby, being able to drive away during a traffic stop and just how densely packed the city is. Honestly i spent my entire playthrough avoiding getting cop trouble and just cruise around the city following the traffic laws until i reach a racer to challenge (which made going to the racers more difficult XD) because the cop chases in here were quite intense at times especially since I believe you're not allowed to have your car reset when you turn upside down during a chase and its an insta bust, dont get me started on the bike. I also loved the payback mission more than delivery, but both have different levels of fun. On the other hand though, this game was very frustrating to play especially on later stages, i remember having so much trouble at the DUB tournaments and especially the Time Trials. Luckily i knew the trick in time trials to make them easy but purposely going at a slower time because the time will always be beaten the first and second time. Regardless though, I had a blast when i played this game, and i even played it twice. The vanilla version on xbox360 (which sadly broke) then the complete version on ps3. I really wished they made more midnight club but like you said in the video, its better for the series to end on a high note than turn into a senseless cashgrab rockstar keeps making games into these days.

Always playing through this pretty well, especially, the Lamborghinis dominate the endgame with their AWD drivetrain, making them very grippy in handling, which i always face the same AI with those when maxed out. Also many users use the Ninja ZX-14 or 1098R due to how overpowered they are, that they can accelerate faster and maintain high speeds on sharper turns to compensate for their very high risk, which makes you get thrown off when hitting traffic, being less durable, and taking a lot longer to get back on after being off the bike.

No game has given me the online experience that I had playing at Midnight Club Los Angeles. It is simply the best street racing game to date. The game was awesome but the online racing was insane and despite its arcade driving, your skill was rewarded. Not like now, racing games have too many aids for those who have no skill.

This video opened up to me just how much attention to detail this game has. The traffic sounds, the realistic car rev vibration, the dirt in the air as you race (dirty Los Angeles), the crash physics, and especially the sky coloring and clouding. It’s no wonder this game still feels so immersive

I'm so glad that this game works via Xbox backwards compatibility and I could pick it up digitally too. I've always been a fan of it but never got to play it up until this point. Definitely a splendid racing game which we can cherish some more this way.

I nearly bought it digitally and then remembered I had the disc on the shelf. Pretty pleased it works as I never managed to complete it before my 360 red ringed.

Loved playing midnight club LA back when I was 12. I recently booted it back up and the nostalgia was real. One thing I really loved about it was when you were in cockpit view and you look behind you, you’ll actually look through the back glass of the car, from my recollection I’m pretty sure this was the only game that utilized the rear glass view.

This game reminds me of when I grew up in Santa Monica. Before the homelessness and drug crisis, it was a nice place to live. We would go all over LA and not fear being robbed or stepping in crap. Thanks for reminding me that this game exists. Really takes me back to those good times.

Loved Midnight club the customization was great making changes even down to the color of your gauges it's insane to think it came out so long ago. I'd love to see Midnight Club return, imagine if they returned and gave us Japan just surprising everyone including NFS the Crew and Forza Horizon

I truly believe that there are people within Rockstar who want to do another Midnight club and know that considering how dead racing games are they'd make money but whenever they mention it the Top brass just tells them to put their ideas in GTA.

The logic i can think why mid night club is no more is that GTA5 basically have extremely similar race elements that surely are taken from this game, and they would say it's a waste of resources to have two games doing practically the same purpose even if midnight club can be more detailed and focused on the racing aspect, maybe if gta5 was not successful we would still have midnight club around.

best thing of this game is that when you race, the checkpoints are far away from eachother and you can basicly choose your own route to the new checkpoint without getting respawned or something. I hope they will bring it back in the new game

I tried playing this on RPCS3 but as usual the Xenia emulator runs most emulations better. I listened to this games soundtrack for years before finally being able to play it :) The starter cars also suprised me, instead of the Golf there should be a Muscle car so you have EU/ JP/ USA choice to begin with. The game holds up well :)

This was such a great game. Probably my favorite racing on the 360 for sure - I never really got super deep into it, but I loved some of the detail that was in it. Hell, one of my favorite thing was being able to throw the adjustable weight around in the back seat to really help with cornering and such. It was so much fun, and really felt very responsive and kind of innovative in that regard. I know it's such a small detail but it's one of those things I wish I saw in more games.

that jebait was hilariouse because even to this day it's still a thing in GTA v online! Happens all the time in stunt races when you technically get further away from the checkpoint even though you're still in the lead position.
