He came to Islam from a rich intellectual background. We are still with the shallow 5-piller Islam.
@wangeomatic Жыл бұрын
@@m1m760 pillar of Islam is shallow? you need to get things straight boy. 5 pillars of Islam and 6 pillars of Iman is revealed to our prophet, and you just called it shallow?
@m1m760 Жыл бұрын
@@wangeomatic Dear brother, I did not say "5 pilers of Islam". I tried to mean "5-piler based narrative or structure of Islam". I think there is a big difference between the two terms. I had no intention to undermine salat, zakat or siyam etc.
@DISABLED12-7 Жыл бұрын
@@wangeomatic I read this to mean that we look at the 5 Pillars as something to do and then our work is done and don't make the connection to what those 5 Pillars are trying to make you understand. The 5 Pillars are what we do, but we need to work to understand the "why" of what we do as well which this talk covers. In architecture, pillars support a building. If you only build the pillars, and not what rests on top of them, you don't get a complete building. You don't get walls, a roof, or any shelter. Yet you can not have a big building without the pillars. So yes, the 5 pillars come first, but that's where we start, not where we should stop.

We each see different connections others may not see. It’s a gift of Allah (S.W.T.) to each of us. This way, we become better believers as individuals as community when we seek to learn from others and share our knowledge. Alhamdullillah, I don’t know why, but as a child, I had a similar understanding of the verse in Surat Al Bakera (where Adam (AS) is asked to name things) as Dr. Lang did. I don’t know why but I just…did. But countless times I get a new understanding of another verse in the Quran from other people, connections I never have (or probably could never have) made myself. I am confident that there are verses that you took a lesson or understanding for that I and many others have yet thought of ourselves. That is a miracle of the Quran: it is a book for each of us, and each of its verses hold an infinite amount of information and understandings that we continue to discover.

I think the math that dr. Lang was trying to convey was this: The gods attributes (compassionate, loving, just, etc) can be described as a function, and for us humans in order to understand the size or volume of that function (get closer to god), we have to make an integral of the graph of that function, in this case, by learning and growing to have compassion, love, etc. Only then we can get closer to god by learning to grow his attributes.

Excellent lecture! My personal understanding: Qur'an 15:29 talks about Adam and how Allah breathed into him His Spirit. Which can mean to cast a reflection of His divine characteristics on Adam. The divine characteristics that Jeffrey Lang is talking about here. Adam's companion was created from the best part of him. As children of Adam, we can bring out these divine characteristics within us through sincere obligatory daily prayers, which bring us closer to The Almighty.
