It could just be called The Matrix Rebooted! As in the Matrix being ACTUALLY rebooted in a movie. Oooo, aaaaahhhh! (mind blown)

luxul1879 Exactly. They have a built in opportunity to make a sequel with a new cast and story, and just have it be the next iteration of the Matrix after it was rebooted at the end of Revolutions. It can take place any amount of time after it, it can be anything, it doesn't have to tie back to anything that happened in the previous Matrix... You don't have to actually reboot the series in this instance in order to get all the benefits of a reboot. Seems like the most obvious way to go, but... them corporate suits making the decisions don't always see what the obviously best route to go is.

Technically, no they can't. If you remember, in every iteration of the story line the Neo was always Keanu Reeves. We see this in the screens behind the architect. This isn't Doctor Who. Neo doesn't change face every iteration. So, if you make Neo a different actor you break cannon. One could argue for suspension of disbelief and we just pretend he's the same but if I'm using my own imagination that much I'm reading a book.

I think those Neo's were just alternate possibilities of what Neo himself could do - not actually the previous One's themselves. Otherwise if they all do look like Neo, that means that the machines keep purposely re-cloning the same guy to fuck with their system. But then again, perhaps that element of chaos is what was required to keep the Matrix itself going, without that possibility of chaos that the One offers to escape the system, the human-batteries might not accept the programming..... Very interesting rabbit hole of thought to go down.

No he isn't I find it so stupid when people think Agent Smith is the One. He isn't. People only say that because Neo sacrifices himself, goes inside the Smith horde and destroys it from within. So no. Agent Smith is NOT the One. Neo is the One. What is Neo scrambled up? One. Saying Agent Smith is the One is like trying to say that Judas Iscariot was the true Messiah. Neo displays powers in the Matrix and outside of it. Agent Smith didn't have any powers outside of the Matrix when he stole that body at the end of Matrix Reloaded and Neo was able to see the machines even when he was blind in Matrix Revolutions. I don't understand how people could honestly think Agent Smith is the One. Zero evidence. Claim refuted.

I liked them as well. Perhaps not as much as the Matrix, but they were worthy. I guess they were burdened with expectations.... I will also say that I liked Alien 3 and 4. Again, not as much as Alien(s), but they were still a fairly worthy continuation. That being said, the Mopheous origin story as a prequel sounds like an EXCELLENT idea.

Crazy prequel idea: Make a live action movie based on Humanity's War with the Machines from the Second Renaissance story from The Animatrix.

I had an idea for the reboot... and since I'm some dude on youtube, Warner Brothers might listen to me. The movie starts with a character like Neo. And it seems like a shot for shot remake of the original, but with slightly different characters. Then it gets to the point where they go to the Oracle's place, and there's a figure there and he turns around and it's OLD MAN KEANU REEVES! which is basically just Keanu Reeves with facial hair, that's how he ages apparently. And he turns around and says "There's been a change of plans..." then the plot goes sideways, it's a completely different story! Keanu Reeves is now either a virus or a program in the Matrix after the event of the 3rd movie, and is there to help fix or stop whatever... whatever the plot is. That way you can usher in a new matrix plot, make people think it's a reboot, then massive swerve, and you can utilize Keanu Reeves John Wick body, and have him do sweet fight scenes. You can have a sub plot where Reeves programming has a dormant Agent Smith in him (because before Neo dies, Agent Smith takes over his body), and that starts to take over and Neo fights it, and then that's how you can write out Neo's character after he "Passes the torch" onto the new characters. He feels the Smith starting to influence him, so he sacrifices himself to save the rest, only to have it backfire and there's a new enemy, that is Neo and Agent Smith mixed together to make a new program, that's like super slick, wearing a suit and powerful.

One of the core concepts of the original Matrix trilogy was that the story was circular and always repeating. Neo was one in a series of chosen ones, who for once succeedes. If they root their reboot in that and move on from there, I'm interested. If they just reboot it in the usual fashion they can stick it up their rabbit holes.

I personally don't want a reboot... I want a 4th movie. Get all the original cast back... including Neo and Trinity (Keanu and Carrie)... just have The Architect "reboot the system"... so everyone is back alive again, but have the story play out differently this time. Make it so they truly do defeat the machines all together, show how they actually free humanity from The Matrix.. rather than how it ends with "peace" until it doesn't last anymore. The Architect made it clear that it wouldn't last.

The Matrix universe really allows expansion in many different directions... it does not have to be any kind of linear thing, and 'reboots' are kind of built into the lore... they have have their cake and eat it too. They can do a Morpheus story prequel... then do a Matrix 4... then jump back to the first war with the machines.... then Matrix 5.... where Keanu Reeves returns.. older... and now NEO is acting in the role of... The Architect... I'm making this stuff up off the top of my head, to show how flexible they can be. Because different versions and iterations exist within the lore, and because of the popular 'Zion is just another Matrix meant to trap those that reject the first one (the green world, blue world theory, we are yet to see the 'real world' in these films).... you add all that in, and you have a franchise that can release films in bizarre sequence while still carrying plot points elements, and pieces of a larger story together... and they can do by going backwards to prequels, forwards to sequels then back to another prequel, before going sideways and showing some other bizarre Matrix set in the Wild West or something (horrible idea, I use it as an example in extremis) They are kind of set up with the most flexible franchise possible. They don't have to 'reboot' anything in the tradition sense, and they are not at all bound by traditional chronological narrative. They can move the series in strange directions and still have it all make sense if done well. The real thing for me is whether the absence of the Wachowskis is an issue or not.

You could theoretically bring back Smith (Hugo) if it's a prequel..but other than him.. make a new movie that follows a new character dealing with learning the truth behind the world. The Matrix prequel that Mark brings up sounds awfully similar along the lines of the Han Solo prequel movie that's on it's way. Morpheus (Han Solo) breaks Trinity (Chewbacca) out of the Matrix (Galactic Empire imprisonment) and steals the Nebuchadnezzar (Millennium Falcon) long before they meet up with Neo (Luke Skywalker).

Why can't it be another story set in the Matrix Universe? So now we have a potential prequel to The Matrix all about the young Morpheus, who will probably be told that he needs to believe in the phrophecy of the one. Also he will have the relationship with Niobe the fight with Lock, he will also find and free Trinity. For me there will be no tension and suspense as we know those characters survive.

I dunno, I really enjoyed Rogue 1 but ultimately I was watching a story I already new. A Morpheus story has the same dilemma, we already he breaks out Trinity, we already know that he spends his whole life searching for the one. Plus (and he's the kicker) we've already scene what Neo can do, Morpheus can't beat even single agent in a scrap. Really we will be watching a story we already kind of know about a guys who's powers aren't as cool as Neo's. If were up to me.....I would tell the story of the very first "one", or tell the story of the first "perfect" matrix that was rejected by everyone! Or even tell the story of the war that lead to Matrix in the first place!

Yeah I understand the movie won't be about beating the agents but there's enough there to work with I think. I'm no hardout fan but I wouldn't mind seeing a time where the agents are too strong. It'd be intriguing to see Morpheus and others fight battles that they know they can't win. Imagine proud warriors having to retreat and run like cowards. Maybe Morpheus was a very charismatic character originally who, after witnessing so much death and losing almost all hope, turns into the emotionless guy he was at the start of the series. I mean, imagine being tasked with finding humanity's saviour. That's hard to handle. They could also make Morpheus think HE was actually the one until the Oracle said he wasn't. Maybe he tried to prove he was the one and got all his squad slaughtered by trying to take on the agents? Maybe he went around 'freeing' so many people hoping they were the one but they all were killed? There could be enough there to build a decent story.

I can see the the prequel thing because it would lead into a fan service ending showing Neo ( ala Rogue one)

ever since I got the Animatrix on DVD and later saw the live action sequels I've thought that they should have continued with the angle that the Animatrix started. Don't try to force a grand narrative out of it. You have this world with fantastical rules of physics. Go all out Twilight Zone on this franchise. Make anthologies were each movie is set in in and around the simulation. Hell. I would rather see a Netflix anthology TV series that is set around that premise. each episode new characters. New dilemmas. Some more packed with action and some with more philosphical ramblings. Or go for the aftermaths of some of the incidents in the movies. Normal humans witnessing their friends morph into a suited agent before being gunned down by leather clad terrorists. I mean. Break the shackles of it having to be part of the grand story and the possibilities become straight up staggering!

Jay and Silent Bob was the funniest movie I have ever seen. For serious.

I know this will probably get hate but while I liked the original Matrix I came to hate it over it's influence on films in the 00's. Why not do the Invisibles comics which Matrix kind of was. Expect Invisibles was more interesting to me.

Like the show.... You guys need to run your audio through a normalizer you talk really loud and then really quiet you cant find a comfortable listening level
