It's hard to describe how big the original movie was back in 1999 when it was released. It changed action movies forever and science fiction. An absolute mind blowing concept in an age before social media. Nobody knew what The Matrix was until they saw it on the big screen. 1999 was supposed to be the 2nd coming of Star Wars, instead it was all about The Matrix.

It’s funny you mention Star Wars. I originally went to see the Matrix in a theater in 99 because the trailer for the first Star Wars prequel movie was playing in front of it. I went by myself because I wasn’t working, but I was late and missed the preview. But I liked the movie so much I went back the very next day for the same showing. Got to see the preview, and it’s funny that the Matrix ended up being much better than Episode I.

Can we just take a moment and appreciate that they went with a mostly un-changed Jefferson Airplane version of White Rabbit, and not some breathy vocals-and-piano cover version? From the scene @ 2:03 we know that he is still plugged into the matrix from the machine city and did not actually die. Its clear that the machines are trying to keep him plugged into the matrix; in order to keep this new version balanced. Also we know its a new version of the matrix, since the last one was destroyed by Smith and was reset after he died. In addition, the lighting in this version is the same as the lighting created by Sati; to honor Neo at the end of the 3rd movie. So no more greenish hue. It'll be interesting to see where this leads.

The first minute of the trailer sets up a better premise than what we actually got. Imagine it was more of a psychological thriller about a seemingly normal man’s descent into madness as he begins to question the reality around him. If anything it’s used to show how time has progressed, at the beginning of the trailer Neo literally thinks he’s going crazy, wouldn’t be too far fetched to believe he’s let himself go a bit if that’s the case. Also, if the audience can’t differentiate between characters just because he has a beard, the Matrix movies might be a little too complex for them in the first place.

This film could have been incredible. Its premise needed to be focused on Neo being locked away in the matrix, now a comfortable living but vacant celebrity believing he was an actor who worked on the main three films, working on a fourth cheap hollywood ‘reboot’ of the property as he slowly becomes aware that it was actually all real, meeting trinity again as a means to break free of the machines (Hollywood) for a final time. The films reason for existing should have been as a critique of modern Hollywood reboot culture. Instead it was just part of that culture, made without any sense of purpose or substance. Very surprising given how much this trailer implies that was what were going to get.

I completely agree and one of the reasons could be that there isn’t a green tint on any of the scenes. That was one of the main things that let the viewer know they were in the Matrix in the first 3.

I'm guessing that they will have him on screen at some point. Lawrence was spot-on for the role. That being said, its probably going to be a "residual" image or projection of Morpheus previous personality. Remember, we dont know how many years have passed since the peace agreement was done.

Theory: the matrix is like the machine’s version of the Infinite Forest from Destiny 2. They can run as many simulations as they want. THIS iteration of the matrix has been running since Neo “died” in Revolutions - that machine we see carry off his body is keeping his brain alive so that the machines can figure out how to prevent The Anomaly from happening again. It’s why Morpheus isn’t in it, cuz he’s dead (see The Matrix Online) and isn’t a part of this version of the matrix.

I just have some key thoughts i'd like to share.The Machines are capable of cloning humans for batteries. This is probably other clones of Neo, Trinity, etc., and like you said there are many simulations, this is probably a different simulation. I remember in Reloaded where Neo met the "The Architect." Neo wasnt the only version of himself, but were hundreds of versions of him. For the brain part, im pretty sure the machines are capable of storing relevant data info from that version of the Neo who passed away in Revolution. As for Morpheus (role played by Yahya Abdul-Mateen), Morpheus is in this movie, just not Larry Fishbune. Anyways i like your theory to.👍

How is everyone that confused about the architect's revelation? Did you read the transcript, it's not that hard to get. The architect revealed that the "anomaly" aka The One is a naturally occurring consequence of the Matrix's freedom of choice program for all users. Meaning, they can't stop the birth of The One, a new one will be born in every iteration of every Matrix, the world births the One. By giving the humans in the Matrix free will, the Matrix program will eventually create a One/Anomaly. As the architect stated, they tried to create two Matrixes without free will, aka without anomalies/ones but both were disasters and the mass rejections of these false worlds killed everyone plugged in, aka the lost crops. Therefore, there is no Matrix that can be created without someone to carry the anomaly/becoming the one.

Additionally, if Neo and Trinity returns I speculate that they may be the originals. Why? Because how much do we really know about machine technology, specifically their medical technology? We know from the Animatrix (canon), that humanity advanced past our current point before the war that destroyed it. Thus, it's possible that the machines know how to repair the broken bodies of both Trinity and Neo. They did run numerous experiments on humans during the war and on the their minds, so perhaps they recovered both of their bodies and placed them in rejuvenation chambers of some sort. Then through the Matrix, reintegrated their minds and erased their memories. I know if I were the machines, obsessed with control, I would try and twerk how the Matrix works in order to control how the anomaly comes about. Instead of letting a random person be born as the one, I would preserve Neo's mind and body in an attempt to ensure that he once again becomes a vessel for the anomaly. And since I have his pod, containing his physical body, separate from the rest of the crop, it would be that much harder for the humans in the real world to find him. Just because there is peace does not mean that the machines should give them a weapon like the One. AND to ensure the one's loyalty in case Neo regains his original memories, I would also keep his love aka Trinity close by and in a separate pod like Neo. This way Neo won't want to leave because the machines also has Trinity. So as long as the machines keeps Trinity and Neo away from the rest of humanity, they won't be able to use their greatest weapon. Also, did they announce that the Matrix Online would remain canon?

Maybe the machines took Zion down and rebooted the matrix. The scenery looks a lot cleaner and well polished compared to the other matrix. Neo died so he might have changed into a core program within the matrix. I can’t explain trinity unless she survived and found a new way to hack the matrix.

When Neo meets the architect the architect shows him video of neo reacting differently to the same question implying that neo was the same in previous iterations. Does the matrix reboot from the same position where the last matrix version left off with the humans aged bodies and new false memories or are new clones of these bodies made and entered into the new matrix at a different life stage? Were neo and trinities bodies cloned for this new matrix or were they repaired when they were killed in the machine world?
