It’s a word, but used in the wrong context. Precipice’s literal definition is “a very steep rock face or cliff, especially a tall one.” Being at the “edge of a precipice” (which should be the right way of saying it, instead of saying “at the precipice”) means “in a dangerous situation in which they are extremely close to disaster or failure.”
