The Monroe model K mechanical calculator was made from 1921 till 1929. In this video I show it with the casing removed, giving you a good look at its mechanism.

Another very artistic video Jaap - I love the new style. Interesting to see that the stepped drums on the model K use a different manufacturing technique compared to the LN160X - the model K having steel teeth, rivetted together to form the drum whereas the LN160X had die cast drums.

Aside from the Comptometer, a nice hand cranked model L Monroe machine is the one adding machine that really tempts me. I've been on the lookout for the right one for a little while now. There's just something about them: how they took the idea of the already wonderful pinwheel machines and functionally improved on them in every way.

Most are familiar with the 19th century Carrington event (a major solar storm which set telegraph lines on fire and worldwide aurora). Now there’s evidence of a far worse event that happened in the 8th century AD, not solar in origin, possibly radiation from a super nova, evidence of it in tree rings. I’m ready, got my machines and several books of mathematical tables.
