From a small Italian community in 15th century Florence, the Medici family would rise to rule Europe in many ways. Using charm, patronage, skill, duplicity and ruthlessness, they would amass unparalleled wealth and unprecedented power. They would also ignite the most important cultural and artisitc revolution in Western history- the European Renaissance. But the forces of change the Medici helped unleash would one day topple their ordered world.

@@alexissguallpa : Just don't be fooled by the blue eyed fair skinned actor they chose to portray Cosimo (that's just white supremacist inclination, purposeful or not). In their time it was fashionable for the upper classes to be portrayed as pale and many wore makeup to change their appearance regardless of gender. But they were obviously Italian/Mediterranean, not Germanic/Scandinavian. Here are some paintings of them: cdn.history.com/sites/2/2014/01/medicifamily-H.jpeg i.pinimg.com/originals/8a/5e/b3/8a5eb31934d31d0d18aeaa6670be4f93.jpg www.sightswithin.com/.Il_Bronzino/Ritratto_di_Cosimo_I_de%27_Medici_in_armatura.jpg www.art-prints-on-demand.com/kunst/alessandro_pieroni/portrait_cosimo_demedici_vecc_hi.jpg That said, the actor they chose was not bad himself. But this type of white supremacist propaganda being used in our history books is extremely pervasive in our western culture and has been being forced upon our consciousness for the last 200 years or so, especially in the United States. Please don't go straight to blaming your teachers though. Many of them are just blindly trusting the same propaganda. But if you pay attention to their level of tolerance for the differences of others, that is a far better clue to their personal views and whether or not they are purposefully misleading you or not. Although many are indeed bigots, most teachers are good and decent people, as are most people in general. So don't bash the good teachers because some are trying to lead us into following their unfounded biases. Beyond the fact that history is a record written by the most oppressive cultures, once you can see past the propaganda, history is fascinating and extremely important. I wish you all good luck and wise insight into seeing past the lies and learning the truth for yourselves. Think of it as a challenge and a great quest of the mind.

@@aylbdrmadison1051 Are you aware that Italians and Mediterranean people are white? They have a darker skin tone but they are still "white". Calling this white supremacy is absolutely nuts. I'm Italian and I have zero issue with how this documentary portrayed my people. Grow some thicker skin please.

@@bp_cherryblossomtree723 by any chance do you know the answers to these? 1) The Medici were wealthy and powerful patrons who commissioned important works of art. However, they often had complicated relationships with the artists they hired. Name the artists, the works they created, and their own unique relationships with their Medici patrons! Choose at least two artists. I want a full detailed answer for this question. Hint: If you are a "Ninja Turtles" fan, you already know four important Renaissance artists! 2) Who was Galileo? What is he most famous for. Who was his wealthy patron and what was his title? Galileo's patron and former student was wealthy and an extremely powerful member of the nobility. So, why couldn't he save Galileo from his tragic fate. Explain in full detail. All the information for this question is included in the assigned film The Medici: Godfathers of the Renaissance/Chapter 4: Power vs. Truth 3) Compare and Contrast Michael Corleone with Cosimo di Medici, who became Grand Duke of Tuscany in 1569, from "Power vs Truth. Do not confuse this Cosimo with his earlier ancestor Cosimo the Elder mentioned in Part 1: The Birth of A Dynasty.

It produced a functional society, democratic and peaceful. Why does it need to produce something else? That was the product, that was the trophy of success, the society they built; and that is the very thing that secularists still claim to be seeking today but cant engineer with all their "enlightened" philosophies and technologies. Youve got an irrational hatred of Christianity that blinds you to the distinction between good and evil. youre also blind to what the Medici's were really doing: they were reviving the ancient religion of Babylon, seeking the magical formulas which transform men into false gods in the image of satan, as Nimrod the archetype of Antichrist had done in the dawn of our post-deluvian world. And they found them...

I adore Brunelleschi, but saying he developed perspective first completely ignores that Giotto's 'Jesus Before the Caif' was a primitive groundbreaking of perspective - they count of at least mentioned him. And then completely ignoring Massacio, even though he developed one point linear perspective side by side time-wise to Brunelleschi, and created beautiful brilliant works of art. It might not be relevant to the Medici, but it deserves an honorable mention to fill out a more accurate picture of art history development.

Compared to most members of the family, it's well understood that Cosimo de Medici was an exception rather then the rule. Maybe because he grew up without political power he understood the harsh reality working men like Brunelleschi, Donatello and Lippi had to go through on a day-to-day basis. He was probably the most decent member of the de Medici family in that sense as well as his caution with power and not allowing it to go to his head. Too bad his descendants (especially the Medici popes) failed in this more often then not.

The soundtrack is beautiful, but sadly the composer sold the rights to the company that made the film (that went bankrupt), so any CD or similar of the music won't be likely to ever be published :( I loved how comprehensive and educational this series was. Such an amazing production. The Medici family are so fascinating and was an incredible influence on modern society.

There has to be a way to be able to publish the music on CD without the unfair restrictions due to unfair Bankruptcy.! The very THEME of this MEDICI film is the very RENAISSANCE concept of CHALLENGING Unjust LAWS and crooked Justice due to out-of-date legal precepts on Laws of bankruptcy and the like! In fact, Humanity's Hope and Progress out of his own Contrived BONDAGE is to challenge all the Shady Stuff falsely granted authority to put him into such unfair disadvantage and the like! Even if the mere long passing of time frees faulty rules that govern finance and sold rights.

They played the magnificent and glorious Halleluja Chorus by Handel, who was born 201 years after Cosimo de' Medici's death. His music, however, was not renaissance, but baroque.
