How bad was it really for you to have a single copyright strike against you with the request to remove the video? They've already had to deal with a lot of shitshows from small and big time channels trying to get them shut down. Did they really need yet another video? Did they say they'd charge you $100 to remove the copyright strikes like my friend had done to him for using a royalty free music track from a company who had recently bought the rights to it from a few videos from 3 years back? They are people too. They've put a ton of work into the project and invested REAL money to make it work the way it does for people like you to put up stupid videos and cause them grief for a laughs and some views. Go read over some of the other comments here, even the other idiot who responded to this comment and enjoy the grief and toxicity caused from this. Yes they made a poor decision and I don't support what they did to you in reaction to your equally bad decision to make the video in the first place. You didn't lose anything in fact you've gained quite a bit of publicity from it now. Don't act all small and insignificant. I am a paramedic in real life. I have worn the Star of Life logo on almost every uniform with several different companies/agencies. Its like trying to do a copyright strike on the men's room icon. Sorry, but hard pass. The co worker that got me into SC once joined Med Runners and now avoids them like the plague. There are plenty of orgs that don't have a single negative video about them. Med Runners seem to have quite a few, going back for some time. Maybe there are some cool players... but whoever is running the show might need to get their ego in check. When its all said and done. I can grab some med guns, a medical Pisces or a Cutlass Red and play the medical loop. There is absolutely zero need to join an org. What are they gonna do, teach me how to do the job I already do in real life? Medical gameplay in SC is as one dimensional as a sheet of paper, and I am ok with that. Its simple and anyone can do it. If it became a specialized class, I would do something else.

I watched the video yesterday and it was certainly eye opening. Was I surprised to hear they issued a strike, most certainly not. It just confirmed the majority of things stated in the video on how the management of the org operates. I would guess they only offered a apology after everyone went after them due to this action. On the bright side, at least it’s stopped me exposing myself to these guys as I was considering joining the org, as I love the idea of that type of gameplay.

There are plenty of other medical focused Orgs and Orgs with medical subgroups you can check out. For instance, the Org I'm part of, VVarMachine, has a medical unit and we also have an agreement with another Org which specializes in medical gameplay called Trauma Team to help each other.

I think the biggest thing coming from this whole debacle is people on the griefing end have showed that people are willingly ignorant of the services’ history with griefing and “Trap alerts” in general. The actions taken recently i entirely disagree with and I am glad the organization made amends as best they could. When I first joined MRS around 3 weeks in we were hit by a trap beacon but instead of it being a normal hit and run like I had expected I was wildly berated and when I got to the bottom of it and mentioned one of the guys in a discord I shared with them. I was further berated, harassed, then nearly doxed for “being a part of medrunner” and apparently digging too deep to just figure out why these guys had a hate boner for the service, and by extension me for merely associating and responding to their alert with the intent to help, and have fun while doing it. There were witnesses to the entire interception and the group that was doing these hit and runs had been documenting themselves doing it, and CIG had apparently done something about it, according to people involved in the incident all around, though things kicked back up a few weeks later and it was business as usual for them. This isn’t the norm for the ganking MRS gets, it’s just what I have had to deal with with no support from anyone including CIG when I have been put on lists as gank targets for no other reason other than being in Medrunner. That said, this isn’t the common experience but we have new members joining the organization who join to genuinely do what the service strives to do, and are usually griefed to shit and similarly hit with harassment in global chat. watching from afar I understand why some people are upset with the organizations leadership in some of the steps they’ve taken in this specific debacle. However, the actions I’ve personally witnessed being taken against new players who join the organization is completely and totally unacceptable, and doesn’t reflect the star citizen community widely, or it shouldn’t. But it’s pretty hard to miss when a guy famous for ganking is spotlit ganking new and long-standing players by KZbinrs in the SC community. …it honestly is odd that people make a fuss MRS being cautious. As someone who was an early victim of all of the super early harassment, trap setting that turned into up harassment in a vile attempt to get me to leave star citizen entirely. It does kind of hurt to see the community I know and love strictly take the side of people who are known gankers getting banned from a service that notably does not authorize that in their community. It really does hurt when people have gone out of their way to hunt guys like me down for merely being in the organization, when I’ve done nothing to any of the community to deserve being griefed, padcamped, padrammed, nearly doxed, packed in voice chats and followed around in universe when I’m just trying to figure out “Why?”, to the point where I just stopped playing LIVE, mostly disassociated with SC’s community and swapped to the calmer PTU altogether to avoid the things this community holds above every other community’s heads. I wanna enjoy this game with the friends I’ve made. Not worry about being ganked. TLDR. just my two cents as someone who partakes in the service. I like many others, when I did the alerts are super tired of responding to an alert that is merely a gank. Not even piracy, just a gank- then further being harassed to extremes for merely associating. Where’s the community when gankers have lists of names to specifically target? Is that not harassment?

This is the sad reality of games that involve a pvp element. I personally have nothing against Med Runner as an ORG. I have never met one or even talked to one before. I am willing to bet though that the majority of the members are good people. The sad part is when leadership does things to piss off the community at large those good members get tossed into a category of scum bags which is really unfortunate. It would be just like saying all Germans in world war two were bad people which isnt the case. They just got lumped into a group by the choices of their leadership. Some additional information you may like hawkes: I reposted the Medrunners apology on r/starcitizen, it sadly got taken down within 1 hour of posting but a few key comments came up about this drama being originally started by a guy false flagging as med runners, and “advertising RMT services in their name”. The medrunners really remind me of the rescue group from Elite dangerous I can't remember it's been so long nor do I really care. But they took things far too seriously when it came to joining them and wanting to help players It didn't make it fun or engaging and definitely didn't feel like any kind of emergent gameplay It felt more like a job. The people want that then I guess this might be the org for them. But otherwise it's nice if casual players can join in on these things because otherwise it's just very niche

The Fuel Rats are probably all great people wanting to be helpful but anybody who wants to do any refuelling around E:D has to be with them, because there are no in-game systems that support finding player help for in trouble commanders without the use of third party software, for which the rats already have a pretty solid system. there really isn't any commitment required to be a medrunner, you can still be you except you can't pirate. That's the only thing they ask their members not to do. Their operation is there to help people and not hurt players. Its plastered all over their website that they do not have any commitment requirements and you're free to join other orgs as well. The fuel rats are the same thing. The rules are in place to protect the players performing the service, the clients that hire them and those around them since there is an element of PvP that must be dealt with. If you're against following a standard operating procedure while performing tasks associated with the service because they want to have uniformity between one operation to another, and to provide a premium service to their clients, then this def is not for you. There are players who do in fact like to help people and are willing to go the extra mile for them DESPITE gankers. Do you think its right though to seek out those players and intentionally be an ass to them? If so, then that's your choice, but like greesy found out, it'll earn you a ban from their discord. They have the right to do that. Its THEIR discord and they operate it. If him being a pirate is what he chooses to be, so be it. He reaps the rewards of that line of choices which includes being banned from being able to use their services. Its as much their right to deny him access to it, as it is his right to snipe and gank medics in the field of battle.

Aside from the really poorly considered decision to copyright strike the video in the first place, I think the way this worked out was pretty positive. GK responded without hostility and with an attempt at goodwill, and then the med runners reigned it in and offered an actually good apology. People do deserve some amount of judgment for the mistakes they make, but I think it's best to focus more on the way they respond to those mistakes and I feel like Med Runners did about as well as could be expected in that regard.

This whole mess is a result of catering to the space rust crowd. PvP is fine, but a game has to be careful about how they implement it to be a constructive part of the gameplay. SC's alpha hands off mentality has attracted not just PvPers but actual "greiefers" who PvP at the expense of other players. SC's pvp is the worst of all systems and PvP is completely one sided. We use the term space rust, but rust is worlds ahead of SC when it comes to PvP, and that game is considered pretty toxic.

Ha this is such BS. They are just a bunch of wimps and this just reinforces everything I’ve observerd hunting medrunners with Greasy myself. They can’t stand critique in a good way and resort to half baked complaints about his video. But I still have discord alts to make their life miserable after what they have done. :)

I went to a medrunner video right after the original controversy and watched their comments section, you could literally watch negative comments being deleted in real time. So right there I knew that these people were no good.

It is laughable people are making drama out of this Alpha game. The AI is terrible and it is basically a weak MMO in space. Kill, mine, pick up and deliver is all you do in SC. It is crazy boring and all these big corps do is fabricate stuff to do because there isn't really anything to do with all the gear in game. Then you make a bunch of space cheddar and get all your gear and ship upgrades only to have CIG wipe it all a week later.

I can assure you I have been ganked, murdered and down right griefed by people similar to Greasy. 100% of the time I will defend that channel if they did nothing wrong to deserve receiving a strike on their youtube. If its deserved then sure let them have it they earned it. This was not the case with Greasy at all.

Greasy Khaleesii video seemed fun and never needed to be copyright striked. I don't know about all the videos people are making about the Med Runner org. Most of their videos are stories about something that happened and you have to take their word at it. They might be real, but I would take what everyone says with a grain of salt until we have better evidence. Most likely people just want to make money off the hype. Either way their accusations may be 100% true but I don't know, we will see.

While i think your conclusion is correct, I think how you got there is wrong. There are 4 principles of fair use, only one of them is transformation. And that isn't the most heavily weighted either. You are allowed to use someone's logo or slogan when referring to their product. For example if you were to mention coke, and not show cokes logo people may confuse it with the drug. Since the video was criticism, this would count. (Though, I forget what the legal definition / reason for this is off hand.) The trick here is that you can not represent their product as your own. Since none of the footage was from a med runners video, and they were not trying to claim they were a med runner, I doubt they could make a claim here. But keep in mind that we the people can't determine copyright. It is defined in law that only a court can. Also keep in mind that before you issue a takedown notice or strike you are required under law to consider fair use. Since I doubt the logo is registered, that makes one more point. Even if the xourts ruled in their favor they would only be entitled to weak protections. Meaning they would have to prove damages to get anything out of it. And they could only recoop provable damages. If they registered the logo that changes, as they can sue for additional damages such as reputation etc... (Though, I doubt they would win since this is likely fair use.) If you need to know more there are a few attorneys on KZbin which discusses this in detail.

Yes, it was handled poorly but all this seems like to me is someone desperate for any kind of content scraping the bottom of the barrel and crying about it when someone tried to shut it down. i have no idea who the MedRunners or Greasy Khaleesii are, but it's clear to me that they both need to grow up.
