We clarinet players also had "fun" in many of these grand ol' Karl King marches, too - but THIS IS the euphonium players' showcase! :-D

It IS mostly 2-valved work.

I adore the first clarinet part. But even as a woodwind, I totally respect the amount of talent and practice the euphonium has to dedicate to this piece.

thank you lol :) we appreciate the respect!

I don't know if this is in the comments yet, but Karl King wrote this, because his band's euphonium player said that the music that Karl writes wasn't hard enough. XD

I just hope that said euphonium/baritone player got to play this song in concert at least ONCE before the trombonists lynched him. Those slides must have been red-hot after a run through THIS garden.

Sureshot274, I was a euphonium player in middle and high school. Got a few awards, the whole shebang. Concert band will always be a part of me. Having said that, you're right. there needs to be more cool euphonium-centered pieces. Check out some of James Curnow (Symphonic Variants).

umm can i just say WOW!!! That is a GREAT job by the Euphonium player!!! We almost did this as a high school. I play Euphonium and only our 1st chair player could tackle this solo!! Love this song though!

Y'all know that Karl King was a baritone horn player...and featured the eighth note counter-melody in that instrument in addition to the piccolo, flute, 1st clarinet, alto saxophone and alto clarinet? This was originally written for baritone horn and not euphonium, but they take it as their own as well..

Songs are sung, and pieces are played. Nobody played this "song" in their high school or college bands, because it isn't a song. Also, why is it that every single comment on every single piece of classical music is people anonymously bragging about playing the piece from the video? "MY ELEMENTARY SCHOOL BAND IS PLAYING MAHLER 5 THIS YEAR, BUT WE R NOT AS GUD AS CHICAGO SINFUNEE

@necromancerBX Yeah, we played Rolling Thunder 2 years ago in my high school band, also very challenging. I can't say that I've had the opportunity to play The Trombone King or any other level 5 pieces as I'm just graduating high school this year. Looking forward to playing even harder music in college and beyond!
@ImVee103 жыл бұрын
The euphonium solo flows well on the fingers. It’s mostly valves 1 & 2. Enter valve 3 during/after the huge chromatic run. ✌️

Your high school band is better than many college bands I've heard. What school is it? Karl L. King (1891-1971) wrote such wicked euphonium parts because he was a great euphonium player. But in your photo, why does he have a trumpet sitting in front of him?
@bloo14738 Жыл бұрын
No clue but my best guess is that he was working on a trumpet part and just needed to see how it sounded

Could we all stop arguing about who's got the harder part? Euphonium, something out of the ordinary for you..Piccolos (like myself) a run or two. Everyone has their own difficulties with music, don't just think that because you play something that typically doesn't do that that you have the harder part.
