This is a beautiful poem, though very sad. Makes an eye cloud up and run over. Its a sad reminder of my numbered days and the end of my last ride. Thank you Joel Nelson. Thank you Red for sharing with your fans.

Joel Nelson introduced me to cowboying 50 plus years ago. Now I am 75 and my saddle sits in the living room where I can see it and remember. My saddle was made in 1980 with lots of miles on it and been on many horses.

I lost my dad in January. He was a 50 year saddle maker, a rodeo producer and stock contractor in his younger years, who learned late in life to cook at his chuck wagon and feed cowboys. He loved bridling his team and giving newlyweds carriage rides, and kids hayrides. His last year on planet earth was spent in a nursing home, and his mind was clear enough to know that was not where he wanted to be. Physically it was where he HAD to be, but it broke his heart, and mine to see him like that. I still can't believe he's gone. Cowboys aren't meant for four walls and a television.
