@Kinghouse BD I'd respectfully suggest a diagnosis of selective listening aka hearing what one wants to hear. That's not what Andy said nor implied, at least to my unfiltered comprehension. Perhaps listen to his comment again? And as a child of the 1960's still modelling today, in my observation from living both eras he is right. Sure, a relative handful of keener teens and occasionally even kids still participate -in my observation only if and when a nostalgic a parent buys for them in a usually more often than not forlorn attempt to distract attention away from the smartphone, tablet, PC, Xbox/PS or MAC/PC and generate/motivate interest they remember fondly. Like aeromodelling and model railway in the age of fast food, not all work done ready to go out of the box applause generating kudos skill included simply doesn't fly *generally* with the instant gratification generation. One from my gen might think it a shame they are missing out on a great hobby unaware of that fact. Just how it is. As L.P. Hartley wrote in "The Go-Between", "The past is a foreign country: they do things differently there".

For those who do not know: Meng is a brand from China-Shenzheng. It is a pretty new brand. It started with some modern tanks with very good references and details, and always gives transparent parts and PE parts with their kits. After it gained fame in China, it started to publish some popular WW2 and WW1 tanks, as well as some civil vehicles. Almost all their tanks have movable suspensions (although some requires to buy them seperately), and there are several tanks have interior parts supplies. It has cooperation with AK. Meng is very similar to Takom in many ways: the vehicles they have produced, the quality of the product, and the aftermarket supplies for their kits. (Someone said that there was a technical employee of Meng transferred to Takom and brought some info.) In Mainland China, these two brands are sawed as rivals. Many Takom kits are hard to find in China, plus Meng is a Chinese brand, many people purchase Meng in China - In fact, For most chinese, if they want to buy a specific vehicle, Meng would always be the first choice (because the brand is pretty new, so as their kits), followed by Trumpets (another Chinese brand. Worse quality, but much cheaper, and have published many different vehicles that other brands may not have), Tamiya (great kits, fits together very well, easy to build, fair price) and Dragon (somehow there exist some people who buy dragon kits not for building them, but for saving them like a stock. The prices of any good Dragon kit keep rising in China.)

Awesome Video like always! Just ordered mine! Just Wondering if there is a chance to tell which kind of Zimmerit I need for which version. Its pretty hard to tell on the pictures.I think it would be nice if they would write it under the Painting guide for every Version which version of Zimmerit is needed. My plan is to build the variant nr 3 but I am not sure if they used the normal horizontal zimmerit pattern or just the squares. Maybe you can help me out. Rdgs Toby

I'm building this kit as I'm writing this (in fact I was building when this video came up) and I'm not far from finishing mine and here's my observations: The kit is superb in quality! Nothing to comment about at all! The track is a pain in the ... to build with all the guide horns, and the metal pins (I'm building working tracks and suspension too) is really slow to assemble but it works really well and certainly looks the part. I've found a handful of errors in the instructions and this is just Meng being lazy because they would've been spotted if someone had built it in QA to verify the instructions. The zimmerit decals are a huge letdown simply because they are way too thin to look like the real deal and you're going to have to be careful with primer and paint because if you're using a wee bit too much then all the pattern is gone. I'm using as thinned paint as possible and I hope it comes out ok, but I regret using this zimmerit. Many people have reported that the zimmerit decals doesn't stick properly. I cleaned the parts with iso and a light sanding and I had very little problem, but I cut all decals where they were bent around a shape just to minimise lift. Watch out with Tamiya cement because it totally dissolves the zimmerit! We who ordered first batch got a metal barrel which is a nice detail, and I recommend getting this if possible. Meng are using a slightly softer plastic than Tamiya but the quality is fantastic and this is in fact one of the better kits I've built! Lot's of options and extras and the photo etched parts have a plastic film on both sides for protection - many thanks for that! If you want a nice Panther Ausf.A in your collection, this is the one, unless you go for the new Takom one with full interior. This one is going to give you less headache when building it, that I can promise you ;)

Hi Andy, first of all I'd like to thank you for reawakening my love of model building, as a kid growing up through the 70's in the UK I was a massive Air-fix modeller,( my old man was ex RAF that's where I got my introduction to WW2 planes, my Grandfather was a shipwright on the River Tyne he helped design and build most of the naval ships built in the area during both wars so I loved the warships as well) As I grew older I kind of grew out of it and eventually went on to serve as an Armoured Corps crewman crewing The Chieftain Main battle Tank during the cold war (joined '87) I'm currently building a Tamiya MK5 Chieftain and would love to see you build the takom mk11 as this was the vehicle that I crewed before my regiment became a reconnaissance regiment and we moved to scimitar Cvrt (have a look at the AFV club 1/35 scale scimitar in UN white the box artwork is actually my vehicle taken from a Photo taken in Bosnia '94, (the pendant flying is a Light Dragoon pendant and there is also a LD cap badge amongst the decals see my thumbnail keep up the brilliant content all the best.

We already have some beautiful Dragon Model Panthers (some with molded on Zimmerit) and others from ICM, Tamiya and Zvezda. Meng really should have included a Zimmerit decal set as these are not cheap kits and there is a lot of competition. I disagree and do not like this recent marketing ploy by Meng where all the parts you want have to be bought seperately and add up to a huge amount. Just sell one kit with an interior etc and one without like Miniart do. It is still a nice looking kit though.
@rohampasha96676 жыл бұрын
SteelScooter saw a dragon Panther G (unopened) for 32usd on eBay , it's an older kit 10 years maybe but I'll take that any day over this meng one
@reteip96 жыл бұрын
Meng including a set of zimmerit decals in the box would just raise the price for the by what you'd otherwise pay for the zimmerit, if you're doing your own zimmerit or using another type of zimmerit that would just be a waste of money, same goes for the workable tracks/suspension. As for other Panther kits, this is the first Ausf A kit in 15 years and the 4th Ausf A kit in 35th scale over all, the other options you have is the terrible Tamiya kit from the 60s, the mediocre Italeri kit from the 90s or the expensive Dragon kit which is nogh impossible to find in shops on top of that this kit can be found for as little as €22 if you shop around and for that you gain a ton of extra parts including the parts to do a Panzerbefehlswagen Panther Ausf A (which is a first in 35th scale as far as I know)

@yewdruuloo24046 жыл бұрын
Adding zimmerit on the tank would limit the amount of options that you can build. Kit has 7 options for painting and with zimmerit it would 2 or even 1. Adding zimmerit as a decal sheet would only raise the price. Kit still has a lot of things inside box. Metal barrel and sideskirts,photo etch parts and not rubber tracks. The only thing that dragon has is photo etch with the same price. Dragon can only hide from meng.

@steelscooter6 жыл бұрын
knightedwolf Ausf A were produced between Aug 1943 to Aug 1944 so you would have to model a very early A to avoid Zimmerit. These were deployed in Italy so it is possible but the markings are not supplied. It is your project though so you can make it how you wish :)
