That tiny moment when his face crumples as she walks away and he catches himself and re-arranges his face, all in a second: THAT is why acting is such an exquisite release for the entire human race. We see his love and his fear all at once, coupled with his realization of how deep, and therefore dangerous, their love is.We FEEL it from him.

I feel for both Patrick and Teresa in this scene. I can understand her concern over his safety when he disappeared and her worry that he might not return. But I also can empathise with Patrick's predicament. This is a man who came home to find his wife and daughter brutally murdered. He ended up in a psych ward due to the trauma of that event. Now, after living through the death of someone he liked he's been reminded of the despair and loss he felt the first time he let someone get close to him emotionally. The fact he's staying at all to try and work through his issues proves he's actually stronger and braver than most people. Mental trauma is nothing to laugh at, and Patrick endured enough to have driven some folk insane several times over. I think the best thing in the scene is the way they both calmly discussed the matter without shouting or hurling insults at each other. Teresa accepted Patrick's need for time, and he acknowledged he'd been wrong not to answer her calls by apologising and promising never to ignore her calls again. They were both honest about their feelings and confessed them in a mature manner - a clear indication of how far their relationship has come.

Agreed. There is a tendency among fans to make Patrick out to be full sinner or saint, but he is just a man, and has always been. To accept his weak moments is not to condone, but to understand, and then hope for a solution. And we were given that: Jane and Lisbon go on. They picked themselves and each other up, they held on to each other. What more can any two people do?

I thought so too. I didn’t think he was running away, just trying to figure out how to deal with the fear he can’t shake that he could lose Lisbon in an instant. He wanted her to go with him. He wanted them to run away together. I really like the way they talk to each other, with alot of compassion and respect. When Teresa was upset that he removed her from the hotel transfer of the witness, and she said she didn’t know how they could continue working together if he didn’t let her do her job, his response was to work it out together. I just love that response from him. He truly loves her when he says that.

Although Teresa will always "soldier on" as Patrick says, the terror of his leaving her NOW, after she has committed to him, is nearly as terrifying for her as his fear of her being killed in action is for him. He has always seen the tough side of her and doesn't see, or worse, chooses to ignore that she would be as destroyed as himself, if he were to leave.

J D BRAUNER he's having to battle his fear of rejection and loss that has haunted him ever since he lost his family. and he's trying to decide if he ever wants to go through that again. Loving Lisbon leaves the chance that he could lose everything again. so essentially he has to face all his grief again and go on faith. he's being selfish but you let him off the hook because of how traumatic losing his family was. That didn't happen to Lisbon. I think Lisbon knows what his issue is, but she's not going to compromise herself to enable his needs, and she recognizes it as his issue.

I don't think so. yeah, she lost her parents. but patrick jane is supposed to be a genius...like sherlock holmes. like genius on the verge of being mad. and his madness comes from the loss of his family. Lisbon's kind of a regular gal. and would be very distraught and broken hearted if he passed, but would soldier on...and go about her life. Jane could lose his mind completely if he lost her, and be in a mental institution for the rest of his days. the only thing that saved his sanity last time, was the opportunity to find red john. and in the midst he formed a tight bond with the team and most importantly Lisbon...causing the Red John thing, not to be the only thing he was living for.

Might be late....I understand her concerns here but Lisbon never listened to his problems? She just kept brushing it off like it was nothing....how could she not understand his problem?? Nobody is asking her to quit but understand his problem instead of brushing it of(she asked him if he was jealous of her job, how ridiculous?). He tried to make it work but Vega's death pulled him over the edge so he had to take himself out of that situation to save himself. It was self preservation. Not attending the call was wrong though.

I think he ran away to make Lisbon realise how much she misses him. In the previous episodes when he throws around the idea of quitting the job and moving, Lisbon is adamant. She loves her job too much. Jane even though he did not want to lose her and go through the trauma again understood. But after Vega's death he realises he could not take it anymore and says he's leaving and gives her a choice to go with him. He thought him staying away and not returning calls would eventually break Lisbon and she would quit to be with Jane. He always planned to come back. Then realising it's not gonna happen he chose to stay with her even if it meant he might lose her eventually. Because she was worth all the pain.

It's interesting to me that it was Patrick who got Lisbon her FBI job in the first place. He knew from years of working with her that being a cop wasn't only a job to her, yet he prodded her to leave what she loved for an unknown, untried path. Though Lisbon always had Jane's back, breaking rules and keeping secrets for him, being so willing to forgive his abandonment of her, it seemed like he was afraid of the idea of losing her and couldn't allow himself to give in to her love. I'm so glad it all worked out in the end.

Teresa was a saint, it's totally understandable his fear, he is terrified of letting go and embrace happiness but she's been there for him for so many years and all she put up with was because she always saw him through it, she knew his pain, guilty and fear. She helped him selfless so much, I know he totally knew that and was grateful for, and loved her deeply but being so empathetic to human's feelings as he is, leaving and ignoring her calls was inconsidering cause he should know how she would feel. I love how she accepts and forgive him though, in the show all is very suttle and there's a lot of important moments off screen, so I'm sure when they were alone a lot more was said and clarified.

It's a very strong scene. Jane is a man traumatized by the loss of his family a man who was harassed for 10 years by a serial killer obsessed with him and vice versa as in Moby Dick. Jane needed to get RJ out of his way not only for revenge but because RJ was a threat to anyone close to him, something that simply prevented him from continuing with his life. On the other hand Lisbon is an independent woman, she had a great career and put it on the line for Jane. Vega's tragic death makes it clear how dangerous the task they both do. That monsters can keep appearing as long as they challenge your life. There is a power struggle between Jane and Lisbon, a conflict that appeared when Jane returned from exile and Lisbon joins up and leaves her headquarters at Jane's demand. Lisbon lost her power as Jane's boss and it pains her to feel that Jane is no longer her subordinate. At this moment Jane and Lisbon meet again and have a struggle with their destiny. They have a short and honest talk but they don't tell each other everything. Jane left to manipulate her to convince her to quit her job and push aside the possibility of a new tragedy in his life and Lisbon doesn't want to stop being what she is. In between, something has happened that neither of them want to talk about. Something that Jane's worried look expresses when he sees her get up and go to her workplace. Lisbon is surely pregnant. She doesn't want to talk because she doesn't want that to be a reason to retain Jane and Jane doesn't want motherhood to be inferred as a reason for his decisions. It is impossible that a perceptive person like Jane who discovered the pregnancy of the wife of a chef who just interviewed to the touch could not have perceived the aura of pregnant Lisbon. On the other hand, the baby may do the dirty work of getting her out of her job for Jane. The solution will come with number three and Jane and Lisbon will decide to surrender to their destiny.

@paolasierra35053 жыл бұрын

@townscapelandscape51592 жыл бұрын

I may be a bit late... I partially agree with you, but Jane purposely declined/ignored Lisbon's call at the beginning of the episode. I think at that time, he knew he screwed up, after all, he is a smart man, but was just too scared of the consequences that answering the phone would have brought. But after this scene, he was already forced to be back and he knew Lisbon's position/feelings towards his actions.
