The Menu is a 2022 American black comedy horror film directed by Mark Mylod, written by Seth Reiss and Will Tracy, based on an original story created by Tracy, and produced by Adam McKay, Betsy Koch and Will Ferrell. It features an ensemble cast that includes Ralph Fiennes as a celebrity chef with Hong Chau playing his assistant and Anya Taylor-Joy, Nicholas Hoult, Janet McTeer, Reed Birney, Judith Light, and John Leguizamo playing diners who attend his exclusive restaurant.

To be fair, many people came OUT of this movie still not knowing the genre or tone it fit into. XD

Fun fact, Daniel Radcliffe was originally part of the cast (apparently as himself, unless I’m wrong about that part) but they worried about him and Ralph Fiennes playing enemies again taking away from the other actors. Would’ve been cool to see them together again but I also understand why. I enjoyed this reaction!

I just watched this last weekend and it was such a good movie! I loved Elsa’s dry delivery to the finance bros

Oysters and lemon mignonette - Common flavors put together that have to be broken down and deconstructed, foreshadowing what happens to the guests. This is meant to be taken as Chef throwing down the gauntlet. Amuse Bouche - More foreshadowing. Charred lace - crater. Milk snow - ash from the fire. Cucumber and melon - the guests. The Island - Scallop on a rock - Chef presenting himself to the guests. Plants - "in the weeds" Breadless bread plate - straight up snarking at picky customers. But you can also make a case for Lilian's plate having a broken emulsion on purpose as his way of saying SHE'S as useless as a broken emulsion. Memory - Self explanatory The Mess - Pressurized vegetables - literal pun. Bone marrow - blood. Beef jus - sweat. Potato confit - tears. Man's Folly - Plum vinegar exists because of Umeboshi, whey plays a vital part in making yogurt, sea kelp and lettuce are what keeps the oceans biome from wreaking havoc. But everyone either doesn't know that or forgets, because they don't taste good, aren't as attractive, or can be very difficult to work with in their natural form. It's the same with women, especially when they try to speak out against unfair treatment like what the chef describes. They get called things like "bottom feeders", like crabs. Final scene with Margot/Erin eating the cheeseburger - She didn't care about giving him peace of mind. She just wanted to survive. And Chef acknowledged that. Using his menu as a napkin - She never believed anything he said for one second. She is, in fact, a taker that knows her worth. And that's why she lived.

Know who I despised the most? The investment bros. Zero respect, they're just there because they literally have nothing else to do in their lives, just run around having "experiences" because they have the cash, shitting on everything to show off to each other about how good each of them have had it (you hear it with the "my chef cooks better than this" stuff. Like no, bro, your little private chef doesn't cook as good as someone that's world renowned, stfu and enjoy what's in front of you). It's a very typical attitude amongst these wall street types in the States- gets really annoying being around em: they're always looking to one-up everyone they meet. They're like those kids that never grew up past the "well MY dad has ____" "oh yeah? well MY dad has ___" stage. They piss me off so much.

This was a fantastic movie. Really does set the tone early on.
