Fantastic result, I have been watching Als channel for quite a while and the standard of work he and Fudge do is absolutely superb, the Merc will be as good as the day it left the factory, or at least as strong as, I just wish I could have seen your face at Rustival when he offered to repair it for you, grinning like a Cheshire cat springs to mind, I bet you slept very well that night! When you visit dont call Fudges car a Ford Caprick, he gets upset!

You made the right decision. That looked like a major restoration job - the sort of job that takes a lot of time and which usually involves stripping the shell, bracing it and mounting it to a rotisserie.

Great to see Al on your channel. As you say, he's got lots of projects on the go, so I wouldn't hold your breath on seeing that Merc being repaired any time soon. It's a fun channel to watch.

Awesome decision Al from 6d diesels is a goid fabricator m8 I watch his channel , I’m a coded welder myself and I’ve worked in several classic car resto garages over the last 35 years so yea yr car is so easy to do m8 just glad it’s being done

Well, THAT'S a bit of a result, albeit a project, the result of which we won't see for a few months, but, considering that you were, RELUCTANTLY, dismantling the car to sell the individual parts of; that is a complete 180° turnaround & I'm delighted for you, Matt, because I could see how much the car meant to you, as you tried to salvage it, & more so, when you believed that it was a lost cause & began the dismantling process!! Can't wait to see the car when it's been restored to its former glory!!

OMG thank goodness it's being saved! My heart sank watching the first half of this video, a sickening feeling in the pit of my stomach ensued, yes there's still lots of corrosion but much of the car is in really good condition. It's in nice spec, nice colour combo etc. After all the blood, sweat and tears and many times out in the freezing cold, the car that brought me to this channel, the shared agony, the moments of joy when you got it started, the joy when you got it moving, the joy when you got it stopping, what a journey! Sorry Matt, but stripping the trusty W123 felt like utter sacrilege! I could understand if the car didn't run or the doors were falling off, but there's still life in the old girl yet, she hasn't gasped her last breath yet, in fact she sounds quite sweet. I recall James May driving a stripped W123 in Africa with no doors, bonnet, boot etc. and going strong. Also, John Cleese in Monty Python's The Holy Grail "It's Just a flesh wound".... I'm not familiar with 6 Diesels, but I'm so pleased Al has stepped in, what a saviour, the phoenix rises. Ah deep joy! 😎🙏👍❤

You don’t have a big garage with heavy lifting ramp and expensive equipment and people working for you to turn around that car,so you are doing the practical thing and stripping the car to gain money for next project,good for you and ignore the negativity of others🙏🙏👍👍🇬🇧🇬🇧

I think Kent Bergsma of 'Mercedessource' put it best about rusty W123's, when he said in his videos, that if he finds any rust when looking at one of them for possible purchase that he will just walk away and not even consider buying it and repairing it because the rust he sees is just the "tip of the rustberg"! Still, I'm glad to see it going to a new home. Every car deserves to live!

That’s amazing to see. At the start I was gutted to see you tearing it down - but then bang 💥 out of the blue, it looks like it can be saved! Awesome! 👍🏻. I’ve got a W202 project in the garage awaiting some electrical work, and there was no mention of rot anywhere when I brought it. But as like here; you never know until you get right into it. Hope fully being a very early 202 it’s one of the much better built ones….. fingers crossed 🤞🏼. Great video as per Matt 😃

W202's are amazing cars, had my S202 over ten years now and it's never missed a beat, rust blisters everywhere but drives smooth as silk and has never failed to start first turn of the key. Only bought it as a temporary measure, for very little pounds, but it was so comfortable and easy to drive that I never let it go.

@@habsom1406well that’s good to hear 😅. As you know you sometimes hear some nightmare stories about them. But I think that’s very much the later built ones when Merc quality went down hill in the late 90’s 👎🏻. Mines an early 94 car, and most of the switches, handles etc are straight out of the W124 - and how good a reputation have they got? lol. What have you got?

Matt feel you're pain I went through this away back in early nineties with a Opel Rekord just to far gone, I could have fi xed it but had no premises or workshop, and was reported by a Pc neighbour. saying it was against the law to work on a vehicle in the street regards from Scotland 🎥🏴󠁧󠁢󠁳󠁣󠁴󠁿🇬🇧 it's in good hands now Al and Fudge and a few mugs of tea will sort it .☺️

Fantastic news, though the reasoning was good to break it as it really wasn't an economical solution to pay retail for the repairs or safe to DIY. It was savable and it's great it will live on.

I sadly must admit that I completely stripped a S1 Lancia Montecarlo 25 years ago back in the UK - I had an S2 and the S1 cost was about £250 - spares etc I later sold the shell for £500 as the bulkhead was still in good shape so someone obviously wanted it! It was no where near as bad as your Merc but parts were so hard to get back then. Probably much worse now. The rest of the parts were sold with my S2 when I left the UK for Australia in 2001 but pleased to see that this car is still on the road and nothing went to the scrap yard.

Wahey! Celebratory parps! cant wait to see this old classic back on the road where it belongs... So many beautiful cars end up rusting away to dust so this looks like its a miracle! (Ps i was fully with the decision you'd come to btw)
