A tip for the navigation lady ... while she's talking, hit the audio mute button (or volume minus button a few times) on the steering wheel and she shuts up (or is quieter) but the navi continues. Once you finish filming you can bring her back on the navi screen.

Maybe the only thing this car is missing is the loud farts when you change gears, when the exhaust valves are open. I fell in love with that sound, when the AMG GT S came out (or rather when they were testing it on the ring).

I like the Rolls more actually (coupe and droptops that is), but that old BMW 7-series screen and old tech kills it completly for me! Im not gonna pay twice the price of what looks and probably feels like a much older car!

Philip Hjort remember BMW always lead the field with technology along with Audi so that older screen is still likely better then the Command system, why? Because the command system is way too complicated and full of sub menus, not to mention the input control is ridiculous to use. The technology in the Rolls Royce is still up to standards, it's got far more going for it then just that and in fact it's not reliant on all these gimmicks the S Class has instead it does the best any car can do, be the best car to travel in.

In the past it was called S63 AMG and now it's called AMG S63! The engines were "huge" V8s. Nowadays the engines are getting smaller and smaller but HP is going up steadily! Weird new times !

The car mags and even Monkey Harris and Steve Sutcliffe have got to get their act together if they're going to keep our interest. Four wheel drifting etc becomes monotonous without the detailed information you give; they're beginning to be overtaken by you, Mr JWW etc; look at the view numbers. Keep it up.

Nice review as always. My 2 pesos? On balance I would take the old car with the new drivetrain and driver assistance/safety systems. For example, losing the Dual View option on the front screen, which allowed the driver to access vehicle information while the front passenger simultaneously watches a video, is a retrograde step, as is removing the CD/DVD changer in favour of a hole for the key, which I'm unsure why I would take from my pocket (surely the whole point of Keyless Go). I know MP3/WMA/AAC music files are the in thing, but does nobody see the incongruity in offering $6k sound systems with implied associations with audiophile-level studio/domestic equipment and then taking away the facility to feed it with decent quality source material? The styling changes are neither better nor worse, in my opinion - although I much preferred the previous tail-light illumination.

I don't mind autonomous driving, it's a great thing to relax and let the car do the stuff especially on restricted, dense highways or in traffic BUT only as long as I can drive the car properly! Talking Tesla Model 3.. all controls are on the screen etc and it's kinda hard to drive the car by yourself.. on some roads you cannot or don't want to let the car drive itself

Thanks for the comprehensive review sir. I would have loved it to have been of the 2WD version, which as you know has some fancy extra chassis technology and is the only one available in right-hand-drive markets. I also wonder if there is a custom setting that would allow all the dynamic elements to be set to extreme except for the exhaust, which I would tire of very quickly on a four hour run.

I've always wondered why people talk about AWD as a safety feature. In my opinion it's not. The car will still understeer in to a hedgde if you come to quick in to a corner, and AWD does not make a car stop any quicker. Yes, you can floor it out of a corner and not be afraid that the back will come around, and you will not get stuck that easily - but apart from that, I really don't see the huge benefits in terms of safety.
