Yes, I agree. I was thinking of trading in my 2013 SL 550. But the S550 does not have a compelling exterior. And looks too much like the lesser Mercedes convertible models.

Wouldn’t it be better for you to review the Mercedes SL63 or SL65 AMG? The Mercedes AMG cars would be more comparable to the BMW M8 or my BMW M5. The Mercedes S550 that meant to be more a luxury car, not a sports car would be more comparable to a Lexus LS600. Hell, my ECU flashed daily driver GL550 with 550+ HP is faster and more fun to drive than this S550!!The Ferrari F430 is still my all time favorite Ferrari and will replace my BMW M5 in my garage!👍👍

F430 Ferrari Yes. The GL550 is more comfortable to drive as a Daily Driver than the M5. Although my M5 with the competition package is definitely more powerful, faster, handles way better, and more fun to drive than my GL550.

Speaking of disappointing, I was very disappointed in your review. If you were looking for extreme performance and handling, you picked the wrong car. You absolutely nailed the car by saying it is a luxury car. Yes, that is what Mercedes intended for the SL550. If you want performance, try the AMG's. For example, I own a very heavy 4500 lb AMG GLC63 SUV that does 0-60 in 3.8 seconds. That's 1500 pounds more than your F458. Note I love Ferraris. I'm simply saying you were way too negative for a car that does what it is suppose to do and nothing beyond.

Mine turns heads every day. Same colors. All the power I need. Trunk is tiny. More room in the back seat. Bought certified 15,000 miles at 40% off MSTP, didn’t have side warnings. Took off run flats. Controls hard to use. I want sheer luxury!!!! Used at 80k better than new E450.

Your comments on the S Cab are spot on however the longer you drive / have this car , the more failures that percolate. The back seat is adequate perhaps for children on a short trip , certainly not adults. The audio system is about the poorest I heard , that is with their extra charge option Burmister. The layout of the controls are build for contortionists. The telematics was years behind in this car no even having car play. After about three years of owning this sub par mercedes , I couldn't get rid of it fast enough. Your review is spot on and only scratches the surface how poor this car is. It does a lot however it doesn't do much well , including comfort.

I guess that's why you're the Ferrari guy. Your main point is that you don't like the design. That is completely subjective. I get it, it's not a Ferrari but to me the design is great. The MBUX is world class, no other car has this. Then you say it's heavy. Of course it is, it's an S class 550. It's not even an AMG. It's made for comfortable touring, not track days. I think you're better in toting your Ferrari and consultancy services although I wouldn't expect any unbiased advice anymore. I notice you can be quite a jerk sometimes which is not a good quality in a KZbinr or a consultant.

You're just not old enough for that car. In another decade or so, you will appreciate how easy it is to stow your Walker in the back seat. As far as performance, it beats your 458 from list to $80k times. It's a car for Blue headed Q tips, not people that can still get in and out of a Ferrari.

I just don’t think that these two brands of cars are intended to be compared hands they are not in the same class. Similarly, I don’t think that one’s personality has to be relegated to one type of car. I have six cars and they’re all different in drive, looks, and performance.

The BMW 850 I wouldn't touch the 4.4 V8 has way to many issue with the valve seats major oil consumption basically disposable after 90-120k miles, while MB their engines are generally reliable. Bmw does one engine right and thats the inline 6 period.

That was the case with the 650 4.4, but they fixed it with the M850. Trust me I know! Had to put two quarts of oil in my wife's 650 between oil changes.... with the M850... nothing.

Not entirely. There are a few real points, because it IS very dead in a bad way. Here's the thing. You can get other cars of this type that offers this level of comfort, but at the same time offers a better driving experience. I recently sold my GranCabrio and had a 560 Cabrio for a weekend, and no, it is not a great car to drive. When I told the dealer, he gave me an hour with the AMG version, and it's more of the same. Yes it's faster, but that's it. You have understand that this car is made for the driver, not a chauffeur, and it's interesting that other companies can do this with this level of comfort, but also offer better dynamics. Explain this to me. Why is it that a GTC4 Lusso is equally comfortable but a thousands times the car to drive?
