I love this series. At first I feared Thug notes would be trite "blacksploitation" . But every episode gives genuine insight into an important piece of literature. I've had real Professors who couldn't explain The Bard better then "Prof. Sparky" . Great work! Keep it up.

hey thanks for subtitles, I'm not american (or from any anglo saxon country), english is not my native language but I really like learning new slangs and ways to talk, also I love books and hearing stories. The subtitles make it a lot easier! I have learned a lot of slangs from this show alone, so thanks a lot yo, props from Brazil :D

Yo, Sir Gawain and the Green Knight is full of mad lit game. Like how the story and how the meter relate to cycles (even inventing a literary technique called 'the Bob and Wheel') from the cycle of the four season, to the cycle of Gawain from boyhood to adulthood as he starts the poem at an immature feast for boys and in the end is in a feast for men.

I always said, all Shylock had to do was super heat the blade so it would cauterize where he cut, thus not spilling blood. though it would make the process several times more gruesome it should satisfy the contract

I know this show has, historically, focused solely on classic fiction, and has done it extremely well (Props!) but I would love to see this unique perspective and presentation style applied to philosophical texts. If there is ever a slow week in the future, and episode on something like Plato's "Republic" or Neitzche's "Thus Spake Zarathustra" would 100% pure badass.

In Bassanio's defense, the full sentence is "In Belmont is a lady richly left, and she is fair and--fairer than that word--of wondrous virtues." Many scholars interpret this as Bassanio saying that she's wealthy and beautiful, but more importantly, she's a good person.

This is why I love Shakespeare so much, his plays are so subtly woven that they can be interpreted to have a tonne of opposing meanings. One person could see this as anti-semitic, the other that it's a criticism of Elizabethan prejudice. I love it.

Shylock was the device, the ugly mirror of society.. "What judgment shall I dread, doing no wrong? You have among you many a purchased slave, Which-like your asses and your dogs and mules- You use in abject and in slavish parts Because you bought them. Shall I say to you, “Let them be free! Marry them to your heirs! Why sweat they under burdens? Let their beds Be made as soft as yours and let their palates Be seasoned with such viands”? You will answer, “The slaves are ours.” So do I answer you. The pound of flesh which I demand of him Is dearly bought. 'Tis mine and I will have it. If you deny me, fie upon your law- There is no force in the decrees of Venice. I stand for judgment. Answer, shall I have it?"
