This is honestly the best recitation of this monologue that I've ever heard, coming second only to Pacino. Absolutley outstanding !

To bait fish withal. If it will feed nothing else, it will feed my revenge. He hath disgraced me and hindered me half a million, laughed at my losses, mocked at my gains, scorned my nation, thwarted my bargains, cooled my friends, heated mine enemies-and what’s his reason? I am a Jew. Hath not a Jew eyes? Hath not a Jew hands, organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions? Fed with the same food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases, healed by the same means, warmed and cooled by the same winter and summer as a Christian is? If you prick us, do we not bleed? If you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die? And if you wrong us, shall we not revenge? If we are like you in the rest, we will resemble you in that. If a Jew wrong a Christian, what is his humility? Revenge. If a Christian wrong a Jew, what should his sufferance be by Christian example? Why, revenge. The villainy you teach me I will execute-and it shall go hard but I will better the instruction.

I've watched a lot of Shylock's monologue and this is one of the better ones. Most are just yelling. This seems more natural and realistic than the others that appears more like they are "acting." This has more felt emotions.

Great job. You took your interpretation, followed through with it and I believed everything you said. Different actors will have different approaches, leading to different deliveries but from an acting perspective, your performance was absolutely spot on. Not bad, nor ok, but good. Unfortunately you will always get your crtics who believe their way is better, or that their way is the right way but they would never back it up with a public performance posting of their own, so I wouldn't even give them the time of day.

overreacted....you should watch Al pacino's one
@BeattieIndependent2 жыл бұрын
I’ve seen Al Pacino’s many times, two completely different approaches, and i think you mean ‘overacted’. I’d ask how you think I ‘overacted’ and where, but I have found most who comment like this can’t actually back that statement up 🤷🏻♂️
@debdipdutta48482 жыл бұрын
@@BeattieIndependent I have typed one 'r' extra by mistake....By the way coming back to the point...You have not analysed the mental condition of Shylock...If you had understood then the expression would not have been this dramatic...It should be more real and more serious..that's just an opinion...i'm also a 10th cls student from India practicing this speech for my oral and came across this video accidentally...its just an opinion nothing more serious than that
@BeattieIndependent2 жыл бұрын
@@debdipdutta4848 I’d argue you need to relook at the text, because if you think Shylock would not be ‘dramatic’ at this point, you haven’t understood the text. He is justifying revenge, that’s not dramatic???
@debdipdutta48482 жыл бұрын
@@BeattieIndependent Then you explain what's the difference between yours and Al Pacino's one
@BeattieIndependent2 жыл бұрын
@@debdipdutta4848 the difference is the delivery, not the understanding. That’s an acting choice; the choice of choosing various inflections. What you stated was a lack of understanding of the text, which I find difficult that you can assume that from the video. Shylock is justifying everything he’s doing, years of persecution and knowing full well that this would all be different if he had a different religion. In this instant it’s not being dramatic it’s being passionate. From an acting perspective being less dramatic doesn’t make it more real. Every interpretation will be different, that’s called acting, but states that any price is overacted because a lack of understanding of the text, that’s an assumption not a critique.
