It's nice today to be able to here The British Groups that were successful at home but never really cracked it here in the American market place for whatever reasons might have been. We knew there was a group called The Merseybeats because we'd see them mentioned in news articles but their music evaded us somehow. Going back 60 years or so now in 2024 watching this video I can here good sounds we missed out on.

For every Beatles or Dave Clark 5, there was a Mercybeats or The Liverbirds. History has a funny way of only remembering certain bands like they were somehow "unique", when in effect, there were MANY bands to come out of that era.

@@nottoday.9503 I wondered that too. Now I am NOT talking about what band that The Beatles would become with such masterpieces as SGT. Pepper and Abby Road. I'm talking about their early days. If you listen to some of those Anthology 1 tracks you'll see a band who were still learning and weren't the "best" at anything. Even they say that much. Their musical talent was a very small part of what made them stand out. I think it was a case of good timing, a good look, a stage presence which could easily be fine-tuned and four very different personalities who somehow gelled. Being the first to hit the USA was important, but they were already a huge phenomenon back home and around Europe already. The Dave Clark 5 hit big in the US around the same time and were arguably a cooler band during their early days. Still, Clark's ego and his insistence on Total Control (the band's name didn't help either) plus an unwillingness to change with the times (they didn't embrace the Psychedelic sounds) had them left in the dust while The Beatles kept evolving. But back to the original question, I think that The Beatles were the right band at the right time and had the right industry people shaping them into a global phenomenon.

Not live, it’s lip synced as the instruments are not plugged in, no microphones and the drummer isn’t hitting the drums. Playback was common on TV, only certain dedicated music shows actually had bands perform live like The Midnight Special.

@@ricardo2266 I get what your saying and agree. I post a lot of music videos on a popular app, I can assure you lip syncing is very common right up till today. I know this because of my growing up with my parents in the industry. I also have remastered videos with an album recording minus the studio audience and it fits, no splicing needed to match mouth movements. Many people assume Milli Vanilli was the only lip sync group, this is not the case. I know of many popular singers and groups that are just the faces, with the real singer and musicians unseen. Frank Farian the man behind Milli Vanilli did the same thing prior with his group Boney M. The earliest I know of starts in the mid to late 50s, where a jewish white female singer/ songwriter recorded a demo with a young black male. This song was never intended to be released but to demo for another recording artists. It was released and the female in the cover was now a black girl. It’s quicker for a tv show appearance to lip sync, there is no need for the band to do a proper sound check. If you watch TopPop (Dutch show) or the UK’s Top of the Pops you’ll see a few respected artists refusing to lip synch. Some won’t move their lips, others they have the band mates swap their instruments. A few times I’ve seen a band thrash the stage while the music played. You’ll be pleasantly surprised to know many stage appearances on live tv are lip synced and many concerts too. It’s very common now with groups of yesteryear performing or for a small engagement. You know when there isn’t any instruments in sight, if there are instruments watch the players and look for the clues. It’s understandable that a performer who has a lot of choreography would do lip syncing. I think they should tell you if you purchase their tickets.

@@Naterade1959 Exactly. The Beatles first single released 05 Oct 1962 followed by a succession of #1s in short order understandably accompanied by loads of publicity. By early 1963, almost every British guitar band of the day playing the beat sound the day imitated The Beatles haircut. e.g. The Kinks, The Merseybeats. Some trying to play the safer middle ground less prominently so, e.g. Gerry & The Pacemakers also an Epstein managed band who possibly styled them differently to distinguish them from The Beatles, and The Searchers who had enjoyed hit success before The Beatles, but by the standards of the day, their hairstyles were still considered long hair.
