Beauty and the Beast was always my favorite Disney movie growing up. I wanted to be just like Belle, so I learned to read early and I was always super nice to everyone. I also never judged anyone based on appearance. Those habits stuck as I made my way out of childhood and into being an adult. I'm not just like Belle, but I will always love, appreciate, and admire her values. Then again, she isn't the only princess I wanted to be like. I wanted to be like Rapunzel, so I grew out my hair for years until I was sitting on it. I wanted to be like Snow White, so I followed the lesson in manners that she gave to the dwarves and cleaned the house often. I wanted to be like Mary Poppins, so I sang to birds. I was a weird kid. Disney taught me a lot of good habits, though.

I did too but because I realized that it's actually the opposite. Prior to the 1900s roses were ridiculously expensive, that's why the beast got so aggressive at the father damaging/trying to steal them, they were NOT cheap. Also pretty sure in the version were the sisters get turned to stone, it's because they drowned the heroine after the beast was uncursed out of jealousy, not because they were selfish people but because they literally killed someone. The fairy revived the heroine and told her she'd kill them in retaliation but the heroine pleaded that their lives be spared since they were still her sisters, and out of respect for the heroine's wishes she instead curses them into being sentient immobile statues until the day they accept that it's wrong for them to try to kill someone that hasn't attempted to do any harm to them. Lastly there were technically Gastons pre-disney too, men that wanted to slay the beast to rescue/protect/keep the heroine away from the beast, but they were her loving older brothers NOT people trying to get with her romantically.

I found these interesting facts in my own research: 1. Belle et la Bete is the original French title of the story by Suanne Barbot de Villeneve. 2. The myth of Psyche and Eros might also be inspiration. 3. Another version says that the beast says the first to meet the merchant is to take his plave as prisoner. 4. Petrus Gonsalvus was a victim of excesive hair growth, hypertrichosis. He married Katerine in an organized marriage to see if the condition is inheritable. Unluckily for the children, it was. 6. In the Disney movie, the beast has the head of a buffalo, tusks of a boar, body of a bear and the hind legs of a wolf.

It could be related to the story of Pepin the Short and Bertha Broad-foot. Bertha was a beauty, while Pepin was short for size (very short). It worked out for them -> their son became Charlemagne

Actually there is. There's an old black and white french classic Beauty and the Beast movie. It was amazingly done using special effects that not even American films were using. A truly beautiful movie and the beast was such a handsome lion man. It was said that the Disney Beauty and the beast got some of their ideas from this wonderful classic movie. And I don't care what anyone says, this version is the best. La belle et la bete from 1946. I think it was. Definitely give this a watch if you can.
@maverickcrow62526 жыл бұрын
The messed up origins are actually partially based on the first recorded case of hypertrichosis (werewolf disorder), Petrus Gonsalvus, he was caged as a young man from the wilds, viewed as a beast man, but the nobleman mercifully thankfully chose to try and tame the beast when Petrus' kidnappers presented Petrus as a trophy to be bought. After successfully integrating Petrus into society and reaching his prime, they decided it was best to find him a wife in hopes of reproducing the beast. They chose the most beautiful in a wicked attempt at trying to unlock possible carnal instincts within Petrus, the bride chosen sadly had no knowledge of her spouse to be, or even what he looked like. As a result of her ignorance she fainted on first sight, and recoiled in fear on their first wedding night. Petrus however wooed her with his humbleness and patience, she soon returned love and bore children who carried the genes of hypertrichosis. As seen in the artists depictions of her hand on his shoulder, Petrus' wife not only bore his children, she cared deeply for him.

Beauty and The Beast is my favorite Disney movie because the moral of the story is so precious. The story is so beautiful and heartfelt, and it gives me a chill every time I hear that prologue😍 I grew up both watching the Disney version every chance I got, and reading the original French tale. Beauty and The Beast was my mom's favorite disney movie too, so that adds a sort of sentimental feel that makes them both have a special place in my heart.

The French live action version is the one closest to the original story but the Prince had accidentally killed a fawn who was the daughter of the Father of the Forest. He was turned into the beast as punishment. He didn't kill him outright because the fawn asked her father for mercy. They were in love and he didn't know she had shape shifted. It's a really awesome story.

Not really. Even it took liberties. After all, Petrus Gonzalvus & Catherine Raffelin were real people & they were the real-life 14th Century _Belle et la Bête_ since Petrus was afflicted with hypertricosis, as mentioned in the dedicated Smithsonian documentary about their real-life story, never mind the "tale as old as time" they inspired.
@cthonisprincess40112 жыл бұрын
@@TherealRNOwwfpooh Beauty and the Beast is a fairytale, based on the Animal Bridegroom motif, a motif that dates back 4,000 years, not the life stories of *16th century* people that think the story *may* have been inspired by. The story is more likely to have been inspired by the story of Cupid and Psyche, which has great similarities to Beauty and the Beast.

I've always liked the original versions of Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast more than Disney's versions. I've grown older I guess I've come to realize that the moral of the story can be very important. I get why Disney did what they did because visual storytelling is its own type of medium. But these stories resonate more with you in your mind and in your heart they are lessons about true honesty in keeping your word, kindness and faith ^_^ +10 pts To Faith in Humanity 😁

Beauty and Beautiful are different forms of the same word. They have the same meaning, same tense, and same root. The diffewrence being one is used as an adjective (what a beautiful girl) and the other is a noun (what a beauty). Therefore it makes sense to translate Beauty as Belle and vice-versa.

The original, not the version this video is talking about, has a couple of similarities to other stories. Cinderella (Belle's sisters -the brothers treated her well), Snow White( how Belle was given to hunter&his wife to be killed but they spared her), Boudica(Princes mom was a warrior Queen who refused to have her kingdom taken by invaders) and a couple others I cant remember off the top of my head. Oh and Belle's mom was a Faerie Princess with magical powers.

Of course, what some people might not know is that the Beast's curse is also psychological. The longer he is under the curse, the more feral he becomes. Had Beauty/Belle not arrived at the castle, the Beast would've eventually stopped speaking, walking upright, and wearing clothes, causing him to run into the woods to fend for himself against the wildlife.

But have you noticed that many themes from fairytales come from the Greek myths, this one resembles of the beginning of the myth of Eros and Psyche.... In it you find the motive of two jealous sisters, the male partner was not allowed to show itself in his true form in front of Psyche...

Hey, Jon! I just realised you skipped over an important detail: The guy who wrote "Beauty and the Beast" actually based his book (at least partially) on a true story. I don't remember all the details, but I do remember this much: This french lady (some duchess or something) was helping this lord find a wife (I don't remember why), but she needed a woman with a strong heart who wouldn't pass out at the drop of a hat, because the lord had a rare genetic disorder called "hypertrichosis", which literally means "too much hair", so he pretty much looked like the Wolfman. The lady chose a woman who happened to have the same first name as herself, and believe it or not, the woman and the lord actually had kids, which helped teach us a little about dominant and recessive genes, because all the female children displayed hypertrichosis, while all the male children were phenotypically normal. So there you have it, folks: it turns out that the real-life "Beauty and the Beast" was little more than a basic lesson in genetics.
@cthonisprincess40112 жыл бұрын
It isn’t actually based on Pedro Gonzales, that’s just a real life story that people have linked to the phrase ‘Beast and Beauty’. The story is a variant on the Animal Bridegroom motif, that is a woman becomes married or betrothed to an animal who’s really a human who’s either in disguise or cursed. It’s a pretty common motif, and is believed to date back at least 4,000 years ago.
