Sticky Fuel + Persistent Plasma is probably one of my favorite meta loadouts, it's just really fun spreading DoTs everywhere.

Im curious, why the Targets Explode upgrade for Sticky Fuel Flamethrower?
@DarthSyphilis8 сағат бұрын
In general you shouldn't be igniting with heat on sticky fuel, you should let the flames on the ground heat. There's only an exception for flying stuff. The targets explode used to work on jellies and swarmers so was even better, but for now the occasional explosion is just better crowd control than direct heating. Everything should be heated by the sticky flames on the ground.

To simply put it a 25 magazine size is too small to use Heat Radiance effectively. Longer range is preferred for Sticky Fuel as well.

@DarthSyphilisI wholeheartedly disagree with this take. I know everyone tries to say targets explode is better but in terms of the value you get from each, heat radiance far outweighs killing a couple jellies per match with explosion. Like far outweighs it in terms of survivabilitt,lighting shit behind you when it’s getting crazy, igniting Mactera that swarmed above you while you run away they all ignite, plus swarmers and jellies if you direct fire shoot one to get the proc, you would of killed more with less ammo had you just ran closer to them. Plus you have pp, drills, etc so the value you get from explosions is really just non existent compared to what you get from heat radiance with sticky flames. I think people just saw some old modded players always use it and they hopped on the bandwagon without actually thinking about it for themselves

@@kunyfuntAlso they removed cnidocytes and swarmers proccing the effect, which was its main selling point for a while. I think the idea is that both tier 5's are nearly useless on sticky fuel, but this one used to be slightly less useless and even now isn't made bad enough to adjust a loadout over. As someone who has used both on sticky flame builds I've found that it matters very, very little which you pick.

The nerf to targets explode working on jellies/shockers was a pretty big hit. Can't speak for anyone else, but I personally lean towards heat radiance these days. One compounding issue is that the explosion only happens 50% of the time - against jellies this low chance was fine because they came in nicely clumped clouds and even if the first kill didn't proc, you had a few good dicerolls to clear the rest of the group. The explosion itself also has radial damage falloff, which didn't matter against little fliers because their HP pools are pretty low, but which does tend to make it less effective against medium enemies as they don't simply disappear from the explosion and therefore remain a continued threat (plus, it takes longer to burn through HP to even get the chance to do the dice roll anyway). There are some other arguments about how ground enemies clump differently than fliers and how you're interacting with sticky fuel specifically (you're mostly painting the ground because of decreased clip that focusing direct damage for explosions needs careful consideration), but I'll leave those out. I don't think heat radiance is really that much better to be fair, but I think it does just slightly edge out the other choice now. The upshot of radiance is that aggressive pushes *through* enemies (laying sticky lines basically in front of you for followers to run into as they chase) tend to get a fair bit more incidental value. Radiance also gives some additional capabilities vs. mackie surprises or if you end up surrounded and need a last ditch hail mary (especially if during iron will). I think it really comes down to how aggressively you're pushing / how fast you're pacing. If you spend every swarm in a tunnel or a well constructed hold, radiance will almost certainly get less value than targets explode (but the question is: do you need those additional explosion upsides because you already have an effective hold). Radiance tends to get more value when caught out during transition or before those holds are set up - which is pretty attractive for me because those are the harder periods of the game. That's a lot of words to say... eh, it doesn't really matter, but still, I think the meta has shifted a bit since the change.
