Now, I know that the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame is a bogus institution, but if ever a band deserves to be in it, The Meters do. Thumbs up if you think so too. If jazz and blues originated in Congo Square, then funk was born in Treme. God bless the Meters!!!

RIP Russell Batiste. Second best drummer from Nola after Zigaboo imho. Thank you for posting this. My first time in Nola was a few years after this and I've been hooked ever since. Just saw George last week here at Brooklyn bowl for somewhere around my 120th time. So cool seeing him here when he was relatively younger. So wish Art was still with us too. May he RIP

This is their ten year re-union at 1990 Jazz Fest on Congo Square stage- I was there and have a few photos from the set. Russell Batiste Jr. on drums and not Zigaboo. In Knocking On Heaven's Door that is Jimmy Buffet who also played helping out on vocals. Also on that stage was Little Feat (kzbin.info/www/bejne/pojVdnqOrpuso5I) and Gregory D & J'Ro'J with Manny Fresh and a dance troupe from Senegal. Thanks for the memories.

I think this is the first version of the Funky Meters with Russell Batiste replacing Zigaboo Modeliste. Not sure how long this lasted. Fairly quickly Leo quit and they replaced him with Brian Stoltz. That configuration played for many years. Not to slight Russell, but he’s not Zig. There’s something that happens when he’s there that’s different and to my ears better with Zig there. Thanks for posting this though. Still one of my favorite bands.

@@PicodeGuy I don’t think it’s a Coronado. It looks like a Fender Starcaster (the offset hollow body, not the weird strat thing)

@@emergencyexit1120 You're right, this is definitely a starcaster (this has been reissued by Fender a few years ago and it's still manufactured by Squier, as far as I know. Unfortunately, both versions, Fender or Squier do not feature the original pickups). Funny also to See George Porter Jr. playing a G&L and not his legendary Precision.
